Pay attention to the words...learn how to say what is on your mind and trust that if this person is meant to be with you, things will work out. Your heart cannot be broken if you never put it out there. Don't try to control and manipulate love. Do your part and that is all you can can do. If you love yourself, others will love you. "That's The Way Of The World...E,W & F".
Love this song! Looking at this album cover, the guy on the left with the white jacket reminds me of those guys in the 1980's who used to break-dance on a piece of cardboard in front of the main entrance at the mall with their giant boom boxes......
There is no other religion where the founder is the one who takes the punishment that man should receive for his wrongdoings,so that man can go scott-free. Don't worry, even many "Christians" don't know that that is Christianity.
God answers anyone's prayer, with the hope that it will lead them to live a life pleasing to Him.He also doesn't answer (even Christians) prayers, because He's a Dad; sometimes He gives you what you want, sometimes He knows it's better not to.
I hope you are completely self-sufficient in your world of perfection and that you have no loved ones who are in need...it would destroy your world.Just joking with you, I don't want to be mean.Stop frontin' about "imaginary guy"; it is written,"God makes Himself known through the things that are made, so that man is without excuse." In fact in the 80s I prayed and the docs were shocked to see my friend "raise from the dead" (their words). They DO have a biol problem, check Dr.Drew's Lifechangers.
You're right..."it is written." Just to be sure, you are talking about the Jesuit Christian God, correct? Having a BA in History-religious concentration-from NCSU I am very aware Christianity is nothing more than a plagerized religion. Why don't YOU educate yourself so you don't look stupid and actually think your words had something to do with your friend's recovery.
Does "God" (imaginary person) answer a Muslim's prayer? Yes=2 or more Gods=Xanity false.
@cdmillig For an individual who wasn't aware that there are people who have a biological tendency to become addicted to drugs or alcohol or that famous people can be personally tormented and miserable, I don't think it's in any way wise to let words fly like "educate yourself" and "you...look stupid", do you ? If you're going to discuss this, just be humble....oh, my bad; "be humble"- another character trait/command of the "imaginary God".
i remember growing up on this song and all the wonderful songs of the 70s and 80s man if i had a time machine to go back to the 80s i would do it all over again because the 70s and 80s was the best times of life and the realist of all times 70s 80s and early 90s music will live forever todays music no chance in hell
A simple melody, but very difficult song to pull off convincingly from a vocal standpoint, especially at that octave range. Debarge nails it. Simply legendary.
DeBarge is STILL one of my fav groups and this song in particular is in daily rotation. They were genius in the way they came up with lyrics and melody to perfectly match a song. Would be nice to see them make music again with El.
MUSIC today is just missing all the emotion and food for the soul... everything is about partying , sex ,hoes ,swag.. since when did "swag" become a quality for talent .. dont make no fucking sense ..smh lol
@trishafungirl12 .Amen.Their story on Unsung was heartbreaking. So much tragedy in their lives.God Bless all of them and strengthen them to be freed from drug addiction.
Remember this song? Oh how I loved it. Reminds me of going to school on the "D" train, in Brooklyn. Heard it every morning in the last car of the train. Jammin for we went to school.
Pure classic... Its endless....I wish I can go back in time .. When I hear this song all That I have to do is close my eyes and I'm right there again...
This song seems to get better with time. Maybe it's cause I've gotten smarter with time. I liked it in 1983 and I like it even more in 2011. We all deserve to have Love in a special way just once in our lifetime. There is nothing else like it..

James is extra extra bad.He made me cry and I wasn't the biggest Debarge fan. They're at the stage where they no longer desire getting high, they're just dying to avoid withdrawal.Even if they weren't famous, you'd feel it for them.
@andrewfrancis74 What most people don't realize is that the tendency toward addiction, whether it's drugs, food, sex, etc., runs in families because the predispositoon is genetic. If you look around you and you see the same undesirable habit with its clutches on others in your family, you should never doubt whether it would happen to you or not. I made a conscious decision when I was young not to do alcohol because of its effects on my family, maternal and paternal.
@anjeffy65 Yes, I'm just seeing it now. Never much of an alcohol person, but have to watch I don't develop it - father's favourite cousin died of alcholism at my age - and I had to warn my little brother.
@andrewfrancis74 Many from the era are in similar states. This was an era of real emotion and many of them have a hard time living in today's age when real emotion and feeling just doesn't exist. When the best you had has ended, makes it hard to move ahead. The music in this time alone was some of the best and as we know, has not been replaced with today's cloned and shallow sounds. Love is truly limited these days. Seems there was more than to go around.

@cdmilligYes,they WERE in a life of misery before they got addicted and also there IS a biological problem with them, same as those for alcoholism, which is why I don't drink because a relative died of it - possibly I have it in me.Stop the "WTF"s and be educated.Stop frontin' about "imaginary guy"; it is written, "God makes Himself known through the things that are made,so that man is without excuse." @mack1820 That MIGHT be true. My New Milenneum gift (year 2000) was a trip to Cali, where I passed by the area where the Jacksons lived. We asked a girl if this was the area. Her friend smiled at her as she said she didn't know.As we left, we realised she was pudgy like a young Janet and had the same delicate voice. ok look now i am mad people come on dont just go to artist songs and put dont like really come on debarge is a good family with good singers and i am just a month old fan and i think the group is better then alot of other singers and can compare to other great singer so haters go hate some where else and let people enjoy some real music
i wish black people would love each other instead of hating each other,,worrying about being a baller and having more than the next,,,the black world is f_ _ _ up
@TheSucram33 don't stereotype... that's definitely not just a problem amongst blacks. white people have that problem too. in fact that's a problem for people around the world... really. so many people just worry about taking down everyone in their way of "success". people are so obsessed with money. it's sad. but that's life.
it's almost ridiculous for anyone, not specifically you, but anyone to think that's just a "black" thing.
15 ppl wasn't loved in a special way to dislike this!! can u say haters who wish they could sound like that n hit throws notes!! Luv Old Skool forever n im 17!!! =)
I love this song. This group was so amazing but drugs and drinking mess them all up. One of the best singing groups in history. All brothers and sister singing together its so amazing. El DeBarge get back to the right way.
Now this is a song by Debarge that I haven't heard in what seems like ages! To me, this was one of their best hits. Man, the 80's produced some unbelievably great music. Awesome video! More of my college music.
Eldridge, I pray that rehab helps you. You're a legend and waaaaay too talented to join that long list of fallen legends who couldn't leave tose drugs alone (Ol' Dirty Bastard, David Ruffin, Jim Morrison, Billie Holiday, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Dorothy Dandridge, Marilyn Monroe, Janis Joplin, Charlie Parker...)
@mccluer35 This song was a classic when it was first released, long before it was sampled or covered by others. All classics are created by the original writers, producers, musicians and vocalist. It is the mass appeal of the core message and talents of everyone involved in bringing that seed (song) to bare fruit the first time out the box. Remember: Classics are memories, samples and covers are reminders.
@mccluer35 Please understand that I am agreeing with you mccluer35. We're on the same page, I just wanted to push it further. It's just that I enjoy and feel strongly about music like this.
this is what im talking about timeless classics that gets you through the tough times and what better way than to have el and the fam kickin ass once again
@ManSlapYourself they were raised on the gospel side of the house. Momma DeBarge had them in church almost everyday. she didn't allow secular music in her house....but I bet she's still proud of her babies for the secular music they brought us.....i know i am....love it, love it, love it!!!!
@ManSlapYourself :That's not ALMOST,that IS gospel! The DeBarge family grew up in the Pentecostal church. That's El playing the piano, too! Just like he did in church. He still does,& he is just as mind-blowing as ever. On stage or in church, this family has a gift from god. They have struggled with their own flaws (like we all do),but nobody can deny the high level of their music!
Yes, El, we love you in a very special way...I pray God gives you the strength to get thru..He'll make a way..just keep up the faith and do NOT give up, my young brother..I'm praying for you...
this song is pure classic. i fell in love with this song back in the '80's when i first heard it. beautiful. de'barge was taken for granted i feel back then, because they was so pretty, but with time now we can see just how talent this family was. this song still sound great. classic.
His name sounds like a spanish tugboat. "Hola, Senior, do you want to ride on el debarge?"lol oh, and the 80s was wrong, terrible what they did with clothes, and hair....and if anyone got something to say, all I have to say is sweatbands and leg warmers are not fashion, but great music all the same! :)

@TheSucram33 Yeah, don't you hate it when other races emulate whites and their hatred for alliving things.
Izrwatching 3 months ago
@TheSucram33 don't stereotype... that's definitely not just a problem amongst blacks. white people have that problem too. in fact that's a problem for people around the world... really. so many people just worry about taking down everyone in their way of "success". people are so obsessed with money. it's sad. but that's life.
it's almost ridiculous for anyone, not specifically you, but anyone to think that's just a "black" thing.
we should ALL just love each other....

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Biggie, Ashanti, and Tupac all sampled from Debarge and got hits from it. So that goes to show they made classic songs.

DaddySweet100 3 months ago
@mccluer35 Please understand that I am agreeing with you mccluer35. We're on the same page, I just wanted to push it further. It's just that I enjoy and feel strongly about music like this.

@ManSlapYourself yea thats exactly what i was thinkin
93lovelythang 6 months ago
@ManSlapYourself they were raised on the gospel side of the house. Momma DeBarge had them in church almost everyday. she didn't allow secular music in her house....but I bet she's still proud of her babies for the secular music they brought us.....i know i am....love it, love it, love it!!!!
chelle315 5 months ago 2
@ManSlapYourself absolutely, that piano intro was straight up gospel. love it!
tonioteach84 5 months ago
@ManSlapYourself :That's not ALMOST,that IS gospel! The DeBarge family grew up in the Pentecostal church. That's El playing the piano, too! Just like he did in church. He still does,& he is just as mind-blowing as ever. On stage or in church, this family has a gift from god. They have struggled with their own flaws (like we all do),but nobody can deny the high level of their music!

this song is pure classic. i fell in love with this song back in the '80's when i first heard it. beautiful. de'barge was taken for granted i feel back then, because they was so pretty, but with time now we can see just how talent this family was. this song still sound great. classic.
MrNathan791 7 months ago 2
His name sounds like a spanish tugboat. "Hola, Senior, do you want to ride on el debarge?"lol oh, and the 80s was wrong, terrible what they did with clothes, and hair....and if anyone got something to say, all I have to say is sweatbands and leg warmers are not fashion, but great music all the same! :)
