  • I was there, On Hawaiian Chieftain! Lady W did indeed come too close and we very nearly collided. BTW, these are "real" sailing vessels, even though they do have motor power. On this particular day, the winds were perfect for sailing and both vessels were entirely under sail power until the returned to their docks at sunset. And neither of these is classified as a "ship", which is only a full-rigged vessel with at least three masts.

  • They have motors for moving about in tight harbors, but they are true (and beautiful) sailing ships that take a crew of at least 4 ropehandlers, a captain, and a sailing master to operate

  • AND! they need a engine for emergency; like a man over board
