In Benchrest looking after the barrel is a must, before clean the breach if you looked closely you will see at times shards of brass, the last thing you want to do is drag this down the barrel and that is one of the magor reasons for using a guide. I've recently just got a Ivy rod and getting a bore guide thats made to be a snug fit to the bore guide so that it looks after it.

so if the carbon fiber rod wont do any damage to your bore because its carbon fiber, why still use a bore guide?
