i remember seeing VJ at the kinectic playground in chicago as a back up band in 1973.I was in the front of the stage,ELKIE had this mini-skirt on with frills, i'll never forget this show, she was rocking the house.I'v tryed to find a album of hers to no avail.i just happened to put VJ name in you tube and wala.
Elkie had the power of Janis Joplin, Robert Palmer was so young here, glad he became his own headliner though and changed his style of music. We have so much to still enjoy of all his performances. He was great and I'm old enough to remember Elvis, but RP was the best!!!

.. ah robert palmer ..elkie brooks saw them with vinegar joe ... burning... robert palmer played at my school dance with the mandrakes.. they were soooogood... I kept the ticket...sneaking sally through the alley...fine time.....jonny and mary life saving songs
good cover band. r&b was old hat by 1972. kids at that point wanted songs written by new bands who represented the new American point of view. V-Joe is a pro band pushing pro songs. If they arrived in 1968 they would have ruled the world but to kids at the time they were another sly stone etc.,etc., ad infinitum.. may V-Joe arrive on time in the alternate universe cause they are good. even with the guitarists mistakes which he repeats in Spin Doctors. It is the same guy yes?
What talent...but Palmer was misused, obviously a dead-end, and the band just didn't stir the juices of the audience -- despite her RIPPIN' sexuality!! There couldn't be a more sexual being!
@tryst0 Couldn't miss. Andy was/is a big star bringing some kind of suspense/rock/soul in his compositions. This goes for FREE, the Andy Fraser Band as well as compositions performed by people like Frankie Miller..... One of the greats imo, to rate next to Lennon/McCartney and the like.

Can anyone tell me why VJ, Trapeze and SAHB never made it big in the 1970's?
They were all brilliant and way better than any of the shit that passes for music the last 30 years.

What a great band, with Jewish Elke looking and sounding like the rock version of Cher!

Wow! That is a fair cry from the Robert Palmer in the MTV videos. Great to see some early stuff from him. Love the strength of Elkie's voice too.
