here's a snow story for you l left for work and traffic was back up a little more than normal it was -60 degrees Celsius with the wind chill and 4 or 5 feet of snow fell and then a layer of ice formed over the snow.
we got to work about 15 minutes late and no one didn't make it in.
Of course that was a few years ago and was in Canada
You British are wimps who bungle it with 2 inches of snow and complain with -2 degrees temps
i really want the snow to fall heavy here its not fair england keeps gettin it when it comes back, and thousands of schools have been of for an exstendened week of their christmas holiday, why is people whining about having it i want to get and extra week off school
BBC...I tell you a feckin snow 'story': The Anglocentric 'British' media has been frankly feckin (predictably and pityfully!) LAUGHABLE! We've had snow here (N Scotland) since approx 21st Dec! My sister's been house-bound, due to FEET of the stuff since 22nd Dec - hardly rare up here! It's LAUGHABLE and pathetic watching Beeb and Sky News reoprts, that started relatively recently - showing ingirlindhsire not NEARLY as bad as up here! Get a GRIP Beeb! Saaaaf East has FOOK ALL! SOD the BBC!
It's news because it never snows like this in southern England. You said it yourself: "hardly rare up here" - somethng that happens all the time is not, by definition, NEWS. Is it?
What is "laughable and pathetic" is little-minded comic-book stereotype xenophobes like you on youtube. Brush that chip off your sholder and get a grip on the real world.
britain should get a system in place coz it looks like we'r gonna get snow like this every winter, currently its ridiculous, everything comes to a standstill & buisnesses lose millions, cant beleive the news headlines for the past 7 days has been about the snow.
its a beautiful thing so enjoy it, dont get stressed out.
So Global warming is hitting us hard now I see. This flies in the face of the global warming so called science. Global TAX global GOVERNMENT is what they are all about not saving the environment. Fuck the NWO...
Don't people from northern countries realise that the reason for all the problems with a bit of snow, is that the U.K does not have much investment to do with dealing with it!! We are not used to it, even a small amount like that. I hardly know anyone who has snow chains for their cars or special tyres for the snow.
Yes well England is affected by the Gulf Stream. So let's say if Vancouver, Seattle or Victoria, BC had a sudden half a metre of snow or 2ft "50cm" then they would be less able to cope with the snow than cities like Buffalo, Toronto, Hamilton or Ottawa where there is Lake Effect snow as they have the Chinook winds! Lattitude has nothing to do with the weather, The UK is a small Island prone to the NAO!
Good point Ame4fame----maybe we can do a house switch for a few weeks and we can experience/enjoy one anothers neighborhood!! ((you can make a snowman and I can eat that luscious clotted cream!!))

And did you not see the lorry tipped over at 2.20?its roughly around the same size as the Double Decker buses, which just proves that larger vehicles are at much of a risk then smaller ones. Id love to see what happens when the floods that we get hit your area. Maybe then we could all take the piss out of you because you wont know what to do. And then, youll also see how much of a hypocrite you really are.. Adios [:
Did you also forget that when you get snow, your country has special equipment to clear the roads and pavements so people can get through without too much trouble? You also have procedures so people do know what to do in a stow storm. We dont have any of that here, and in many cases, in my home town, the gritters didnt even turn up, so we basically had nothing to protect ourselves. It's worse then you think, okay?
I drove a pickup truck with no weight in back 20 miles to work, wasn't late, and the plows weren't out until 2 hours after I got to work. As for your floods . . .all the bridges washed out last spring so bad they parked semis loaded with gravel to keep the pylons (the big concrete legs the bridges sit on) from washing away.
I merely pointed out that the bus should have had an easier time of it because it had much more weight than my little Chevrolet S10 pickup did (which has gotten me home when the snow was over the axles already). When it snows that bad, the plows don't go out. You're welcome to come over here and see what a real winter is like though. The title of the thread was "Tell us your snow stories". I hate to see what folk like you cry like when a real disaster hits.
We don't have winter preparedness drills over here. Most cars over here NO LONGER use snow tires. Most cars use all season radial tires. Pack a shovel and some blankets in your car. Don't make unnecessary trips when the news tells you a big storm is coming. Leave early for work and plan to get home late. Make sure someone knows what route you take when you do have to go somewhere so they know where to start looking for you.
If you're stuck, but not in a ditch, try starting out in second gear to get your car rolling if all it wants to do is spin. Learn to "rock your transmission". Rhythm is everything with that.
We had to learn about this because someone got caught in a storm and either died or lost parts of themselves to frostbite. We learned from other folks misfortunes to make sure it didn't happen to us. So after the storm, did you do anything to make sure you're prepared for next time?
Bobanort, if its that much of a problem for you, then why dont you come over and give us some lessons on how to cope with the snow, instead of just sitting there taking the mickey out of us because we dont know what to do. What do you expect when 30% of us (including me) havent even seen the weather get this bad? Do you just automatically think were all gonna turn around and say: Oh. Look, its snowed 6 inches, more then Ive seen ever seen before, but Im sure my shoes can handle it!

The buses should have had the easiest time of it (the more weight, the more traction you have). And saying you didn't know what to do when you got the warnings is just plain silly as you're on the internet and could look up what to do in a snow emergency faster than ever before. I'd love for Ame4Fame to explain how I'm a hypocrite because I grew up in Wisconsin and saw some rough winters. The snow isn't even up halfway on the sidewalls of the tires on those cars.

That was all we had on the news over here (Midwest US). For all I've described in WI. the Nor-Easters they get out in New York pale what we get by comparison. They can end up with up to 6 feet in one snowfall.
There were warnings of bad weather, but not this extreme and we dont have proper procedures or plans here to work around the snow because we arent used to it! And for the Australians saying were pathetic, YOUVE NEVER EVEN SEEN SNOW!
The countries making a mockery out of us are such hypocrites! Firstly, they experience snow storms and blizzards far more often then we do. For around 7 months their temperatures struggle above 10 degrees, so of course this is nothing to them! They dont have a right in saying we are clueless because how would they honestly react if they didnt see this sort of weather in around 20 years?
I agree that this video only show a very small amount of snow.
But they're not used to it. People are often afraid of something they're not used to. People probably don't know how to drive. Some will drive way too slow, while other get aggravated and want to overtake and drive faster. Formula for disaster.

I Have this special Ride-on lawnmower that uses its blades to suck up the grasscuttings and drops them in the collector on the back. if you take the collector tube away it just spits the grasscuttings out of the side.
I do the same with snow and put chains around the tires to stop it from slipping.
I was in a big group of about 15 and 3 of us went off and throw snow balls at cars. One of them stopped up the road, got out, walked all the way up the hill and started swearing in every sentance telling us that abit of non compressed snow cracked his wind screen.
Any way, we looked and thought it was some hench guy and it turned out to be a tiny little guy with mascarer and glasses.
No one owned up, we just said we all missed and he buggered off.
Did you hear about the girl who died because of the snow. I think that's really sad. Why did the snow have to come now. I love the snow but not when it's like this I don't like it!
surprised the government don't ban the building of snow men in-case they offend Muslims what with being white.Oh and can you call them snowmen or will that offend women ,just dont now anymore.
In fairness, no infrastructure to handle it and no experience driving in it. So its funny to watch from those places with both - we can laugh!
It does look so pretty and being a thing of beauty - cozy up to the fire with a hot cocoa - watch the falling flakes - and pray it doesn't freeze after it starts to melt. "Black Ice"! Urk!
My wife had to climb out the window to go to the shops for food, because the front door was impossible to open--It was blocked with a mass of snow.(We live in Norway)
NOT in Norway--(more secure). It's harder to break them down.---eg.--Lyssand Front Door - the main door for your house This is probably the first door in Norway to be designed as inward opening. Traditionally, all Scandinavian doors open outwards and all of them sold in Britain are basically an outward opening door which is turned around. At Lyssand, we have developed an inward opening door exclusively for the British market.
It was quite bad in Central Scotland on monday aswell. I past my driving test last june so this was the first time I had drove in the snow lol! I ended up skidding past the lines of a junction onto the main road and I was nearly hit by other traffic. It wasn't good lol.
could people stop saying that a snow storm means that climate change is disproved! we still have random weather to deal with, its just gettng more random!
it's always been random. It all depends on the sun spots. The UK used to be as hot as spain 300 years ago. Al Gorm didnt mention that did he. Just do some research on the subject. Have you noticed how "Global warming" has been replaced with "climate change". I wonder why.
I love England, 'tis my homeland after all, but man some english people are so thick..! They're talking like it's someones fault that it's snowing & that it's a disgrace!! Shut up you fools! It's a bit of snow, we get it once, twice a year if we're lucky.. Enjoy it!! I got to work fine today.. Boo hoo if you can't get a taxi to somewhere, walk! I understand those who genuinely can't get to work, but you get a day off so what you whining for?!
What is it with our country when we get a bit of snow?...my wife is Russian and her home city now is -30 with (metres) of snow not silly little centimetres..she says nothing changes..people go to work children go to school traffic flows...same in autumn...we get a single leaf on the rail track and its curtains for the rail system...why??? what is it with this country...i love the UK but holy shxte its just a bit of snow...
Yeah, fair point, I was thinking the same thing as I was trying to get down the hills of Sheffield 6 inches deep in snow and ice for an exam. In the long run, though it's really not worth spending the money on coping mechanisms for the whole country when it's only a day or two a year at the most. Countries like Russia/Canada expect and have much better systems in place. It'll be back to normal in a day or two, and at least for now us Brits have something to fulfil our natural hobby of moaning.
In Lancashire we had just a bit although the local Hills(Trough of Bowland) looked from my window to be pretty well thick with snow..looked nice!..Anyway yes i think your right about the systems to cope over in those countries...My mum is Candian ...Prince Edward Island/Charlottetown and just last week it was -34...and snow snow snow...and even the sea freezes...We are quite lucky here when comparing with those places...
Just cause it snows like shit in London, doesnt mean it snowed like shit in ENGLAND! FFS, Severe weather warning for UK? Fuck that, its just London, most of the midlands got naff all snow! Fucking making a big fuss over some snow...ONE or two days! Get over it!
lol, anarchy hit my school and half of the pupils that DID manage to arrive just left later on in the day, whe it reached it's worst condition two boys from my village just walked out of the school to go home, bearing in mind it was so snowy we could barely see out of the window i thought it was impressive, our village is about 5 miles away too.
We're like a third world country????? GET A FUCKIN GRIP YOU TOSSER!!!!!! You have obviously never been to a third world country you dumbass, shit eating WANKER!!!!!
he was trying to divert attention from the governments lazy handling of the situation and blame the british public as a useless object who couldnt handle the snow problem
We should have snow every day make people of London so Happy, watch the video Hammersmith Grove's Singing Choir.
I had just arrived back from the North Carolina yesterday I was one of the lucky one's stuck in the air above Heathrow waiting watching the snow to stop. follow me from Heatherow to my part of London where you might see some one you know as the the street chior break out in to song. enjoy
This is so ridiculous. Three snowflakes fell from the sky and made a natural disaster in Englad. No transportation, people didn't go to work, scools were closed and so on...What a big DRAMA from just little snow??? It snows almost everyday in winter in Scandinavian countries, Canada and Russia, but people still go to work, everything is open as usual. And it's much, much more colder there and it snows much more than here and life doesn't stop because of that.
Yes, it snows all the time in Scandinavian countries, Canada, Russia.. and it hasn't snowed this much in the UK for 18 years.. that answers that question. That's also why those countries have comparatively small populations and economies! Many are using this as an excuse to skive - and good on them - the British work longer hours than any other country in Europe, to the detriment of social values. The only thing I object to is broadcasters being so negative. Stay at home and put your feet up!
Finally, a useful comment posted on this video...should be the comment of the week. It's so informative, and just...well, overall brilliant and full of common sense.
Oh, how I wish I could have an IQ of up to 60 like those damn intelligent Americans.
hasn't anyone else noticed that 25 seconds in the guy in the fluorescent jacket who dodges the snowball says "ah that's FUCKING hilarious" ?????or am i the only one???or am i just going deaf??!!!
I think its quality how England gets a little snow and it hits meltdown!! Welcome to some real weather, at least now you`s have somthin to moan about eh!
That guy was right 3rd world country has nothing to clean the roads or anything I dont get it at all, this is nothing compare to snow in Europe, what if it snows for 2,3 days non stop ? Everyone would go crazy...
aww i love how it causes problems...lol we get 50cm of snow and everything still runs...public buses (not school buses) taxis everything...its just wen theres traffic its hard to clear the roads so its always a bit slow... :P my mum called my grandparents to see if they'd had snow...but i think they missed it :P lol apparently...wen we left there was like 2 cm of snow and the whole friggen country ground to a hault...its global warming baby :P
As one guy on the vid said, it's diabolical that in 21st century Britain, with over a weeks notice, the country grinds to a halt over a few inches of snow. Makes you wonder how countries like Russia deal with this kind of situation everyday without crying. Wonder how many of those pampered civil servants even attempted to get to work today, but then they get paid regardless, unlike those in the private sector who don't get wrapped in cotton wool
My snow story? Picture 1000 students having a MASSIVE snowball fight (in my hall) on a field and in a wood... EPIC! I felt like I had stubbled into a scene from Narnia!
i went to park to play in the snow but people started throwing snowballs at cars at cars and 4 car windows where broken including the one i was in got glass all over my leg =(
Today my friends and I withnessed two dogs having so much fun even when the owner pretended to run away, they just looked once and carried on with their merry-making. It was so hilarious!!!!!!
Yeah the snow set very quickly over in my area, none of us went out anywhere all day, except the kids who were out the front playing, freezing their finger tips off.
stand up all of u. climate changing is really happening. saturday it was sunny, sunday it was gloomy and 2day it was snowing. nowadays climate is not settled. 10 years ago, we knew what climate january was gonna have but now it changed. anyway lets face it coz v have done many bad things 2 mother nature & now she is punsihing us back. we deserve it. this world was created 4 peace & life but wild nature of humans turned this heaven into a hell of technology, experiments, inventions & evil things

Amateurs! :-)
Urk!

My wife had to climb out the window to go to the shops for food, because the front door was impossible to open--It was blocked with a mass of snow.(We live in Norway)
hunga224 3 years ago
don't front doors pull inwards?
andypandy202000 3 years ago

It wasn't good lol.

could people stop saying that a snow storm means that climate change is disproved! we still have random weather to deal with, its just gettng more random!
calvinjones 3 years ago 2
it's always been random.

What is it with our country when we get a bit of snow?...my wife is Russian and her home city now is -30 with (metres) of snow not silly little centimetres..she says nothing changes..people go to work children go to school traffic flows...same in autumn...we get a single leaf on the rail track and its curtains for the rail system...why??? what is it with this country...i love the UK but holy shxte its just a bit of snow...
turnnineteen69 3 years ago
Yeah, fair point, I was thinking the same thing as I was trying to get down the hills of Sheffield 6 inches deep in snow and ice for an exam. In the long run, though it's really not worth spending the money on coping mechanisms for the whole country when it's only a day or two a year at the most. Countries like Russia/Canada expect and have much better systems in place. It'll be back to normal in a day or two, and at least for now us Brits have something to fulfil our natural hobby of moaning.
Caeternum 3 years ago
In Lancashire we had just a bit although the local Hills(Trough of Bowland) looked from my window to be pretty well thick with snow..looked nice!..Anyway yes i think your right about the systems to cope over in those countries...My mum is Candian ...Prince Edward Island/Charlottetown and just last week it was -34...and snow snow snow...and even the sea freezes...We are quite lucky here when comparing with those places...
Take care...dont slip...

EVRUSSTV 3 years ago 2
Yes, it snows all the time in Scandinavian countries, Canada, Russia.. and it hasn't snowed this much in the UK for 18 years.. that answers that question. That's also why those countries have comparatively small populations and economies! Many are using this as an excuse to skive - and good on them - the British work longer hours than any other country in Europe, to the detriment of social values. The only thing I object to is broadcasters being so negative. Stay at home and put your feet up!
