  • Looks awesome, you made one mistake though the neck pickup on the blue strat is a Dimarzio Super 2, the humbucker from hell was in the red strat that Jason gave Rivers. It was the inspiration for the sonic blue strat but the humbucker from hell only came in the red and yellow cover back when the sonic blue strat was made. Either way you still have a badass guitar.

I have the pickup combo in my Ibanez and I love it but I am also working on a River sonic blue strat. Such a awesome guitar.

  • @Nazereth666 yeah technically that is correct. I knew this going into it, but I read that the combo of those wasn't balanced. The neck pickup is super hot and not as articulate as H from H. And I figured since it was in that original Red special model, it's even MORE throwback. Plus, it came in cream, which back then it didn't, and now it completes the look of the guitar exactly even if it's not the same pickup. I prefer it's sound actually, because Rivers used P-90s in the Blue album.

  • @Nazereth666 and this H from Hell pickup is supposed to actually sound like a hot rodded single coil, it crunches REALLY well as you can hear in the video and does the Blue album stuff. The guitar is very versatile. It is still very ironic to me that the thing is called the Humbucker From Hell but it's supposed to sound like a single coil haha! I was picturing a forboding death metal tone lol

  • @ia5662 I would probably have two pickguards, one including the humbucker from hell and the other the Super 2. That is the nice thing about strats is there is only 3 wires you need to resolder to swap out a complete pickguard and have a new pickup configuration.

  • You are awesome!!! Getting a Rivers tribute guitar has been on my list of to dos for such a while now. Cool playing, too.

  • I can't decide which I like more, this or the Scott Shriner era SG.

  • how much did it cost all up?

  • @chadfacedbear guitar itself stock was $450 then the mods were around $150 I believe?

  • Excellent video. Really helped give me a good idea of what my guitar will sound like once it gets back from the shop! Thanks for this video.

  • @ColorTheLifeline no prob. when you get yours post a vid as well, I'd love to hear it.

  • I have a question did you need to make any mods to your guitar to install the bridge and neck pickup because I have the same guitar and I'm also a big weeer fan and I want those pickups

  • @pinoyviper no the beauty of this guitar is it's already routed for humbuckers, so other than buying the new pickguard and a new volume pot (personal preference) then you're good to go. Oh and of course don't forget the lightning bolt strap lol

  • Was that the bridge for the Buddy Holly Demo?

  • @liligman just the solos in Buddy Holly

  • When you took the plates off what color were the humbuckers? I'm just interested in buying this guitar

  • @motocarnage615 I didn't take them off, they are replacement humbuckers the ones that come with it are chrome and the casing is intended to be on them. You need to purchase open coil humbuckers if you want that look.

  • i hate how you cheesed out on the cleans :(

  • @xPsuedo ah let's be honest, Weezer isn't really know for their "clean" sound. This guitar was made to rock, and although the cleans sound fine, it shines in overdriven, crunchy, thick distortion. Plus the 2 albums that this guitar was inspired by and played during those tours was Pinkerton and Blue, which are almost exclusively distortion tones.

  • Where do you get your tabs from man? And the playing is good phenomenal as is the guitar (again XD)

  • @liligman honestly I figured most of the songs I know by ear on my own or I'll watch videos of the actual players and watch their hands and finger placement. I don't trust traditional tabs, the only time I'll use them is for a chord that I just can't figure out for whatever reason. But they work well for many people, just not me.

  • Your voice kind of sounds like Scott Shriner's. In fact I thought you may have been Scott Shriner. Anyway, sweet build dood.

  • @ia5662,

how much did it cost for the guitar, pickups, and what you did to it?

I've been after Rivers Tone for quite some time. I know the orange probably does a lot to delivering the tone and i definetly dont have the money for a rockerverb, but i recently bought a gibson sg, and what do you think i could do for not as much money to obtain a closer tone to rivers?

  • @DrGuitarPenguin all told it was $150 in extra parts, you can look in the description for the mods I did. As far as Rivers tone, get this he used a p-90 Les Paul Junior double cutaway for most of the Blue Album tones, and an old Mesa head that isn't even made any more. So it's pretty hard to accurately recreate that amazing, musical, crunchy distortion, but I find the Orange to be pretty close as far as saturation and thickness go. Marshalls will get close too, just crank the gain and bass.

  • guitar looks awesome!

  • that's sick.. how do you get such good tones?

  • @froggyfruitloops the most important part of TONE is the HANDS. Second would be the style of gear. I obviously wouldn't be getting these tones with a Tele through a Fender Deluxe Reverb. The Orange happens to have a very musical and thick overdrive just like the Blue Album and the guitar itself is practically identical to the one Rivers toured with back in the day. So all that helps too...

  • What exactly is the bridge pickup model? The "Trembucker" name just refers to the fact that it has a wider pole spacing, but you can get it on any Duncan humbucker

  • @TouchMyChinch very true sir, it's a 59 Trembucker my bad.

  • very cool

  • Not a strat, in case you cared.

  • @AaronEddieHYo not exactly sure what you mean by this, on this planet, what I have in my hands is most definitely a Fender Stratocaster. Sure, it's not traditional in a sense that it doesn't have single coils and has 2 humbuckers instead, but I assure you it's a Strat my friend. Also, although Rivers made his custom through the Warmoth Guitar Parts company, it's clearly a Strat in shape, design and neck.

  • @ia5662 I was referring to Rivers' guitar. He may also use a 24.75" scale length conversion neck as well.

  • @AaronEddieHYo ah I gotcha, well I know one thing is off on mine. Rivers used a 22 fret neck, mine is only 21 which really blows for playing the "Tired Of Sex" solo detuned to Eb. It's hard to rip that last lead on the very last fret of the guitar accurately.

  • @ia5662 His body is also made up maple (I don't know why, I built two and I used mahogany, but it is). Also, Schaller locking tuners, and I cannot remember what the nut is. If you're really enthusiastic about it, you could buy a black ice capacitor. Is your guitar white? His was sonic blue (though it was a little lighter than most sonic blue strat paint I've seen).

  • @AaronEddieHYo no way, I haven't seen any other Rivers copies and I was kinda surprised. You see a lot of Billy Joe Armstrong Strats and such out there, but not the Rivers style. I thought about putting the Black Ice in there and have read up on it, but I use this guitar for more than just Weezer and it's important that it can still get pretty clean. My band plays all our 90s songs in Eb when playing out, so this is the guitar I use. And yes, mine is "Sonic Blue", but I hate how light it is.

  • ahaahah your wearing the faggy sweater lol
