I met these guys back in 93 during the Lolapoolaza in New York, they were in our hotel on the Jersey side and got kicked out for cooking a pig in their bathtub,, they were a weird group of southern inbreds..
@chinary8 No, your the one being condescending. Perhaps you should ask yourself if you don't agree with something do you understand it first, before passing judgement. As someone who ate bread and rice almost exclusively for a month, $2 was much more than a snack. I might of ate off that loaf of bread 2-3 days. Two loaves at one dollar each at Wal-mart, for almost a week of bread. I was thankful for every dollar that I received, no matter where it came from.
Conscious Music! It worked out well in da late 80s & early 90s cuz of da Black uprising. Dem punk ass record execs of today won't promote this kinda music now becuz they won't us 2 hate ourselves.
@MoneyC225 alot of the big rap record execs are actually black (bad boy/roca fella) i think its more about making disposebel music you can fire out easily and make the most profit not keeping a culture down
thumbs up if venture brothers brought you here, and you thought they were talking about the show arrested developement and are completely ignorant to music like this.
@black4pienus Phish is technically from the 80's, but their best work was done in the 90's. But yah, there was a great mix of hard rock, hip hop, rap, jam band and even the Grateful Dead. (Im a hippy music fan). But I love all good music, Good music can unite the world! Have a nice day man.
I loved this group when I was coming up. A lot of positiveness in their music. Music with positive messages in it are hard to find these days. I had their autograph. I think I lost it though.

What the hell!? to the side of this video they have all these great, legendary respecful artist/video suggestions like Digable Planets, Fugees, Pharcyde, Digital Underground, Tribe! (hand claps)
and then in the middle they have Juvenile!? back that ass up!?!?!!!? I just hope young kids see the giant difference.
they got Regulate too, which isn't "positive hip hop" necessarily, but at least that song was hella dope and original.

@911chrystal So basically you think that before 1992 there weren't that many honest songs about real life, but once these middle-class hipsters started preaching about how cool it was to be poor, then things got real?

i like how rap from the 90s had a message to HELP people and raised self-awareness as well as teaching black folks how to embrace their roots, unlike the rap now that glorifies murder, rape, theft, illegitimate children, and neglecting your responsibilites. it's no surprise that crime is on the rise once again compared to back then...
