If you think about, this entire session makes perfect sense. Nobody listens to Cassie, much like the legend of Cassandra, and in some ways the old man Sammy was just a lonely old soul. I dread to imagine what things would be like if Cassie grew old and was left alone like he is.

Open to interpretation, but pretty sure Chris never texted her at all in this. (like in the 1st season, ep. 'Cassie', all those texts from Sid to 'EAT!' were revealed as only a figment of her imagination. From the first awkward 'cough' she gives to remind her friends she's in the room, to coming home to find nobody had waited up or left a light on for her. She created the texts in her head to believe someone cares. Probably why she empathized with the old man.
