  • kocham balto:-) love balto love love

  • Everyone only talks about the dogs being heros but the people with those dogs went through it too.

  • Ed but true, balto saved 27 people (meanly children) from diieing, (sorry bout the spelling).

  • every one of those dogs were heros

  • THANK YOU TOGO!! Anyone knows the REAL story knows that Togo traveled damn near 3 times what any of the other sled dogs did.

    TOGO IS THE REAL HERO!!!

  • @DFDavid21 How about the five dogs who died of burst lungs getting the serum to Togo...maybe they were the real heroes?

  • @COSMOTOPPER777 Togo = Lead dog for Seppala if you didn't know, Seppala and Kaasen delivered it and no-one died of burst lungs wtf. Togo is the real hero, Kaasen finished it and got a lot of attention by it. Balto wasn't the dog that did most of it, Togo did the most. But both dogs were the real heroes, Seppala and Kaasen too.

  • @Eg1l All I know was what was reported in the episode by the History channel. The narrator stated that "five dogs died from burst lungs" along the way.

I didn't make this post to single out "the real hero", more to point out that selflessness and fearless determination are the defining characteristics of those remarkable creatures we call 'Dogs', without who's help, our lives would be much more dreary and difficult.

  • @DFDavid21 The mushers were the heroes.

  • @DFDavid21 There's no reason to tear down the other dogs in order to raise Togo up. There were and are many good dogs. Balto was one too.

  • @DFDavid21 The fact that Togo and Sepela nearly killed everyone by going over the sound proves they could just as easily been the goat. Sepela also owned Balto and believed Balto was nothing more that a decent wheel dog and left him behind.Cassin had used Balto on his teams before and knew how strong Balto really was.Sepela also only traveled as far as he did because he believed he was the only musher racing from the half way point to nome, once again proving he was a dick!

  • Togo doesn't get enough credit.

  • i cry watch this Balto save Nome Alaska

  • @lestatpop Dogs hold in their hearts all the best qualities of human beings, while untarnished by the ugly ones. I think we need them more than they need us.

  • don't get me wrong, I love the animated movie, but the true story is 10x more amazing than it could ever hope to be. it also has pretty much nothing to do with wolves so why did they make that connection? and the quote "a dog can't make this journey alone but a wolf can" is just blown out of the water by this documentery. R.I.P. heroes, and that goes to all those who were involved in the team, not just Balto. ^^

  • Balto did what hundreds of other lead dog could've done. Togo did what no other dog could ever do.

  • wow! I love this story!! do you have the whole documentary... I WOULD love to see it!

    thanks!!

  • @Jate14 This is just an excerpt (edited slightly) from an episode on the History Channel. I suspect if you visit their website, you can find it.

  • @COSMOTOPPER777 Thank you so much! is that the tittle "Four Legged Heroes?" I should look for it!

    take care :)

  • @COSMOTOPPER777 It's not on their website. :(

  • He DID have Hollywood movies back then but this video never mentioned his own animated movie from 1995.

  • Happy 86th anniversary Balto, Togo and the rest. May the spirit of the Serum run, human determination, and our special relationship with our four legged friends live on forever.

  • If togo was steel im marching to their office right now, togo was the good guy too

  • Why didnt they give togo a statue? Its so not fair, he was the real hero, he went much frther and did more, and he isnt even reckonized that much :( and

  • @alwayscountry1 Seppula owned Balto but didn't think he could do the run. Gunnar's lead dog was ill and he knew Seppula had great dogs and he chose Balto to lead his team. Togo and Seppula were honored for their part in the run, however he could have ruined everything had the ice on Norton Sound cracked while they were on it.

  • @petis1976 Thank you for this post....a fascinating part of the backstory I'd never heard. This is a great example of the near miraculous potential of the Internet to educate billions who would otherwise live out their lives in ignorance, and most of all, to stand as a relentless guardian of truth.

(Let no government ever succeed in hobbling it in the name of national security, as ours is now trying to do.)

  • Togo is the real version of Steele, only he wasn't evil

  • What show was this from on the History Channel?

  • You guys make a good point, but what makes it amazing is balto had never done this before but his master had a strong feeling he could and he was able to lead them through that imagine if he hadn't been able to do that it wouldve taken longer

  • Amazing story. Why can't they tell THIS one? Hollywoods animated feature is so

Off. Entertaining, but it should at least have a real version

  • Just an unbelievable story. Indeed, Balto, Togo, and everyone else that was involved in this relay are heroes to me. God bless them all

  • The Alaskan government organized the sled relay to endure the worst weather known to man, with extreme subzero temperatures, raging blizzards, and hurricane force winds. They did it all to save the lives of 30 people, in a region with only a few hundred.

Now compare that to our response to Katrina. What have we become ...

  • Whenever I watch it I always get chills down my spine and sometimes it even makes me cry because it is really touching.

  • poor togo...seems he did most of the work and yet balto takes all the fame..

  • @MegaWeed13 well Balto had never been a lead dog before, and Gunnar Kaasen never knew how well he would do (as well as everyone else)

  • @JackHyaku well yeah i get that but its still unfair that he got all the credit and all the fame. and togo had the longest and toughest run on the whole thing. well either way i guess the job was done and they are both heroes

  • @MegaWeed13 yeah... but it was miraculous that Balto managed to make it out of whiteout.

  • @MegaWeed13 agreed

  • @MegaWeed13 Balto was never a lead dog, so thats why

p.s: The movie"Balto" was good lol, id seen it since i was a baby and still like it :P

  • Togo was the true hero to me, even though not very well acnowledged. The fact that he was able to run just feet away from the fridgid waves of the North Sound and guide them all to safety of the shore is amazing to me and should be never forgotten. Thanks for the video

  • @JanaKubalova agreed

  • The Chinese translation story book is

    極地700哩:一個超越極限的雪橇犬救援故事

Wonderful story! All kids should read the story.

  • great video

  • I hate it when Balto get all the credits just because he took the cargo for the last leg of the journey, and delivered the serum ahead of schedule. Togo deserves the credit too, they travel through the most treacherous part of the route, and ended up traveling almost twice the distance compare to Balto.

  • Of course Balto's story is a real-life version of Rudolph the Reindeer, so it tends to get the most attention. I did add Togo to the title a few weeks ago after another person commented on Togo's run across Norton Sound. For me however, all the dogs were heroes, particularly those 5 who gave their lives earlier in the relay, and who's names we'll probably never know.

  • @jingjong12 But Balton was never a lead dog, that why he got more credit....second time i said this rofl

  • Very touching story!!!

  • i love balto and togo wow

  • love balto

  • I thought it was Togo which lead the team. 1925 Togo was 10 years old and die in 1929.

  • Thanks for that info. As I understand it, Togo was also one of the heroes of this story, who led the second to the last leg of the relay across Norton Sound. One of the saddest facts of life for human beings is that our very best friends on this planet rarely live more than about 15 years. Our Beagle, 'Daisy' is 14, and she can't see or hear very well, but her heroic heart is as strong as ever. Thanks for writing.

  • @oasiejiun Togo was actually 12 when he made the serum run in 1925

  • This a truly amazing story that we must never forget! Balto, Togo, Blackie, Fritz and all the mushers, we will never forget you! All Dogs truly are heros

  • Thanks for adding more names to the roster.

  • Thanks for posting this. I am a huge Balto fan!
