Fron ages 11 to 17? How about age 8 or 9? That's when some girls start now. It must be all the crap they put in baby formula and preservatines they stick in the food we eat now. Because they keep getting younger and younger. One day, they might start at age 6. They should have told them to change their pads twice a day or more, or to not use Tampax yet. When I was 12 I started and back then the girls that got their period were laughed at.
@teraterakhan have watched any of the cartoons of the 40's-70-'s they were worse than this full of racial and war propaganda. Looney Tunes and Disney being the worst with American ones also various anime even up to now.
hahahaha a twinge or a touch of nerves.... I don't know about anyone else but without my birth control i turn into the wicked witch of the west and my cramps feel like labor.
When you consider the self-serving horseshit that they used to shovel to the public in those days this film is unusually sensitive and well-meaning. I was expecting horrors.
I saw this when I was in fifth grade. The girls were taken out of class and put into a separate room where we saw this film. It made no sense to me at the time; I was more confused than before I saw it. Only when I actually got it did it all come together.
@DblC3 OMG! That just what they did to us too. The boys laughed at us when we came back to class because we hid the little booklet. Our film showed a girl riding a horse and playing a guitar. My Mom didn't tell me a damn thing either. I got it at school and didn't realise what it was at first. Later on I had severe cramps, throwing up. heavy ones, huge clots. I'm in what they call perimenopause now, I might have a period once every three months now.
I got my first period at age 45.! It scared the beejeezus out of me! I wondered,"Am I abnormal?!" Then I realized,"Wait! I'm 45 and I'm not female...and the blood was pouring from my ass! It was just a protruding hemorroid! Aw...The wonders of mother nature.:D
This is a great way to explain to girls about their periods. I wish I had, had this video when I was young. It was an ackward situation for me to talk about, even with my mom. I think it was ackward with her too.
Very positively surprised by it: aside from a few old-fashioned sexist touches, this video is mostly just good common-sense advice, with a clear and positive tone.
"Stop feeling sorry for yourself and keep smiling"? Fuck you lady! Most months I'm lucky if I don't actually cry from the pain or blister my stomach from a heating pad!
How is this glorifying menstruation. It's quite educational; it shows you that there are exercises and other things you can do to keep yourself from feeling any crappier. Your period shouldn't hold you back from life. Lol and I'm sure girls aren't saying they want their period too, they'll get it anyway. It's a simplifying thing I think it helps explain things that much more. Different perceptions I suppose. And Disney needs no shame for this. GO DISNEY!
@miamivicepastels83 " How is this video even educational? They're glorifying menstruation, as if it's something wonderful. Little girls will see this video and be like, "I want my period too!" but when the time actually comes, they'll realize it's not at all how this video depicted it, and it will come as an unpleasant shock. For shame Disney. =P
People get married in white because it's supposed to represent purity and all that mumbo-jumbo... even though most people never are... but still, it's like starting anew.
I swear I've only seen white wedding dresses in my life... besides when my great-uncle got married, and his wife was like 70 with a light pink dress-suit. lol
LoL WOW, instead of touching upon the actual experience, these cartoon girls are putting makeup on and getting married. And in a WHITE wedding dress no less? Lmao. How is this video even educational? Try not to be tired, emotional, or have a cold? And how is one meant to avoid these things?
Other than that, this video is pretty great. A good snapshot of life then, how people were meant to learn and think.
Like cledasmurf said... being a girl then seems so simple yet so oppressive.
