one of the greatest films these eyes have had the privilege to watch... so Dr. Strangelove or how i learned to stop worrying and love the bomb.... or Fallout the prequel....
for a good time, recall how the movies are utilised to have Cuban Missile Crisis people shot dead in the head. for fun and profit. do pay particular attention to the film that stopped this getting to number 1, it was Mary Poppins. yes, the same out of place black umbrella.
so next time you think only capitalism & war economy is important, you remember you should be feeding the birds instead.
This has always been my favorite ending to any movie. All of kubrick's songs are ironic in title or lyrics in context with his films and are of the period they portray. Great director.
@145Slap789 - nope, Hitler looked at what nukes do to the world and flatly refused to research them, and cetainly didn't want to deploy them.
Hitler wouldn't unleash radioactive poison onto the world. he was meant to be about fighting that kind of emotional toxicity infecting people in the first place.
@TheCaptainmoemoe If the end of the world happens with such beautiful and hilarious juxtaposition of music and imagery, I think I'll be perfectly fine with it.
@theoriginal72 Is that a serious question? Have you even researched it? God allows man free will. We are not machines acting and preprogrammed manner. We make choices. God wants us to freely choose good over evil, himself over Satan. Don't you realize that?
This is such a great ending. It allows your mind to go in 1000 different directions thinking about what the people in that war room did after these bombs went off.
With Julien Assange in the media again., might be a good role for him. Julien strange attractor. There are entries under jules strangness and attractor in my physics dictionary Julien Assange.
@divisorplot Assange, Manning and their friends are mathematicians, physicists, engineers and IT experts who have the courage of their convictions. Dr Strangelove is a megalomaniac I do not know any anti-war activists like him. Every activist I know agrees that Assange and Manning are heroes with x-ray vision through bullshit. Julian's made-up surname is no secret. Government and media parasites hate him because he outsmarted them. It's hilarious!
Such a difficult thing to explain why, but it's amongst the best movie endings of all time... I remembered since the first time I watched this movie, I couldn't really understand if I even liked the ending, but I could never forget since.
Wonderful!! Peter Sellers you will be forever missed...
With no offence in mind, I would like to award you with a hearty "Fuck you, sir", for even mentioning something as horridly shitty and retarded as Family Guy in this context.
Hahah, I'll throw a loving fuck you right back at you. Was just making a point. Family guy is the worst show to come around in years and I was just mentioning that this is exactly something they would reference.
Ah, well in that case, I must retract hostile words, and state my apologies, for you are a man of reason.
But yeah, anybody who actually likes Family Guy (or doesn't get clinically depressed after watching that shit for longer than ten seconds) should be executed with a three foot rubber cock. IMHO and so forth.
@rerite2 Bullshit!! Unleashing the bad dog out of the basement should win every year since it has kept the peace for over 40 years. (youTube site: Minuteman Launch 0:32 sec).
Peter Sellars incredible performance playing the three roles of Dr. Strangelove, The President and the British Officer should have garnered him an Oscar. How many actors could have played all three roles convincingly?
I dont know why but every time I see this I die a little inside... Not that it's a bad ending god no. It's magnificent... It's just so beatiful...
The contrast between the beatiful music and the terrible creation... One has maybe little influence but such joy and hope while the other has major changes but is a symbol of hatred and destruction. How could we we create both of these? I know what I say may sound stupid but, well I thought I should share it with others...
@theMissJackson101 Agreed. I cannot think of anyone in Kubrick's orbit...Hitchcock is in the game, but how about living? Terrence Malick comes closest.
@cj766961 Its the end of the world as the Russian doomsday device goes off. Those are the nuclear weapons on both sides being activated. The song is supposed to be a stark contradiction to the fact that the human race is being almost completely wiped out.
@cj766961 : The overarching theme of the movie is that citizens (be it Russia or US) place their trust in the stead of every day bureaucrats, who, incorrectly have placed their trust in a concept of game theory (Mutually Assured Destruction) that was incompetently organized (in that the power of "MAD" is that the other party is made aware it exists & thus avoids final confrontation). To that end, we have no power to control the destiny of the very leaders we elect, & must learn to "not worry".
@alexstore1 Actually, she's STILL alive. And, in 2009, she showed she STILL has that World War II antifascist spirit by suing the British National Party(BNP) for using her recording of "White Cliffs of Dover" without her permission. Vera Lynn lived through the threat of fascism and still knows it when she sees it.
@noobcrusher141 To make rothchild, morgans, rockerfellers, shiffs, and the warburgs rich. If you look through history not only through your school text books, you'll see how the banks are involved and how much control they have. You don't have to make me sound like an idiot. I do know what I'm talking about.
Dr. Strangelove represents the nazis. They lost WWII and a lot of power so Strangelove is a cripple. Now that the US adopted his idea about the caves and all the subtle nazi stuff, the ideology of the nazis would finally become reality and so he can stand up.
Dennis Markuze AKA David Mabus: Stanley Kubrick visited me in a dream last night. He was standing next to Jesus. Jesus complained that there were no custard pies and Kubrick said, "Let there be pies!" and Jesus got smacked with one. Then Jesus smacked Kubrick with a pie.
Jesus said, "I hope Dave quits linking this video on his stupid rants about the end of the world."
It is incredible that a song that was intended to be entirely optimistic, inspired so many great minds (Kubrich, Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash etc.) to use it in the most depressing ways.
Kubrick set out to make a serious film. But more than half way through, he and Stoppard (co writer) realized this was so serious, one had to laugh. There was no way they could tell this story and ignore the ludicrous nature of the madness of nuclear war. He's not poking fun at the U.S. military nor the governments of the U.S. or U.S.S.R. He is poking fun of human beings and our very consistent naivety and hope in all situations, even nuclear war. Hence the title. The film is a masterpiece.
this movie was great for so many reasons. it was able to be funny while at the same time make a point about the tension between the US and the soviet union durring the time when the cold war was in full swing
'Hitler' an Avatar of Devil or 'Satan' himself! Whatever was he, he left a legacy to be 'Debated' and mostly against against him (99.99%), was definitely a 'Character' which are born once in a Century. Hitler was born in 1889 and Laden in 1957.
@ixxykissoxo That's the point. You're supposed to. That's the brilliance of Kubrick. This song was played more than any other during WWII in Great Britain. It spoke of hope and positive outcomes no matter what. Kubrick too it to the limit, as in, the end of the world, doesn't mean the end of the world! ;)
@pseudotruth Oppenheimer actually misquoted the original text in translating it as "death" instead of "time"...but for the situation I think death sounded, more significant, maybe even magnanimous.
@TheObsidianhunter Haha why can't you do it? I want to be Dr. Strangelove for Halloween because he's probably the coolest looking movie character ever. I'd have to by a wheelchair though.
They couldn't stop the Soviet Doomsday Device from activating, so the upper class went underground to escape the radiation. The montage is supposed to show the world baking in nuclear radiation. The song is just a Black comedy.
One of the greatest endings ever! I can't think of any other movie scenes that so perfectly combine hilarity, irony, horror, cynicism and sadness like this one ... except maybe "Nashville." Perfection, both of them.
Greatest black comedy ever made.

@JixYt Goes without saying, but I will anyway: Peter Sellers was a genius.

what’s the scene supposed to be? did they fire warheads and then instead of a solution they all just land and blow up?

@jeobeahon
They couldn't stop the Soviet Doomsday Device from activating, so the upper class went underground to escape the radiation. The montage is supposed to show the world baking in nuclear radiation. The song is just a Black comedy.

@jeobeahon : Just watch the movie. Its great. Its about the surreal situation of cold war. And it may raise this strange love for the bomb....

Obviously 14 people meant to hit like, but were so overwhelmed by the epic win of Dr. Strangelove that their brains went DERRRRP.

One of the greatest endings ever! I can't think of any other movie scenes that so perfectly combine hilarity, irony, horror, cynicism and sadness like this one ... except maybe "Nashville." Perfection, both of them.
