I notice you hardly ever use belts or wraps or any other equipment to help you much when you lift. I don't either despite unless I'm maxing out despite all these people that recommend you should wear knee wraps or belts or whatever when you do squats to protect your back or knees. It's best to train your own body your tendons, ligaments, muscles, etc. to support your structure when you lift at least I believe it can help prevent weaknesses and in turn injuries down the road.
@MrCaprice90 I'd recommend starting strength or any other basic strength program, seems like you are lacking a foundation in strength with the lifts you described, is your bodyweight around 120lbs?
Hey broz, how necessary would you say weightlifting shoes are? I'm just getting into only lifting and I don't want to spend more money than I have to. I use chuck Taylor's atm
@skyethebeast the chucks are just fine, those shoes are called adidas adistars they run about 150 to 200 bucks i got a pair and i have to say they are like putting ur feet in cement i love them! but never use like cross trainers, or like running shoes!! they will screw up your lifts.
@Possimpablee i originally deadlifted in a touch and go fashion then i switched to a very strict true deadlift and now im back to touh and go, it just seems to give me a better workout.
Broz,do you think that deadlifting positively affects the olympic lifts? I notice that the Chinese include a lot of deadlifting in their training. Whats your opinion on this?
I logged on just to say that you are dumb. "does he do other exercises?" Really? Realllly? Does he do other exercises? Those videos to the right of him squatting are actually fake.
Hi Mr. Broz, do you think it would be possible to make videos teaching the form used in the lifts? Unfortunately I don't live near Vegas to visit the gym.
It's great seeing olympic lifters deadlifting. It's come to the point that some think of it as taboo or detrimental, to deadlift while practicing the olympic lifts, which is a shame.
classic old school big super strong guy that doesn't seem to be on anything, fuckin awesome...I'm good for around 500 once MAYBE at 186lbs If I go berserk and warm up right, Big Pat Mendez REPS! Funny how people jump on here and say you should have done this and you should that.... The guy just DEAD LIFTED 330kgs --- 4 fucking times... UNREAL. Top effort mate!!!!
I was doing neck schrugs with 100 dumbells for reps
So thats 2x100 dumbells. And this guy (around 40), he was doing dumbell chest right next to me with 2x40pounds.
He was like " WTF dude 200kgs?!! thats impressive shit!" and I said " its not kgs its in pounds, 200 pounds is around 91kgs" The face he just made was hilarious!
I just saw a disapointment in his face, as he just found out he was benching 35kgs instead of 80kgs lol ><
I just came from his 800lb squat video...whats his max DL at? I thought DL was supposed to be a fair bit higher than squat (I know 1 vs. 4 reps is not fair comparison, but still feels odd).
As an Oly lifter, I'm guessing Pat trains squat 10x more than deadlift (if he trains deadlift at all). Also, if you check out his DL form, he's lifting with his hips low more like a clean pull than a powerlifting deadlift. Many powerlifters have bigger squats than deadlifts. This is particularly true with geared lifting. Cheers....
Most I've deaflifted was 500 x 1, 495 x 2, 19 years old, 6 foot, that's 2.2x my bodyweight. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done.
This guy is a fucking pro. Over 2.5x his bodyweight for REPS. ANYONE putting this guy down doesn't see fucking dedication, skill and hard work when it has 100k views.
@RippinSkullz I agree about those commentators having egos, but then so does the weightlifter in the video. No one would go that far in weight lifting if it wasn't for ego and attention seeking.
@IAM18YEARSOLDANDOVER Pat is an olympic lifter. Representing your own country, the USA, in olympics would be a great honor. Let alone if you won something (and it looks like Pat is going to win something if he continues this way).
@IAM18YEARSOLDANDOVER He's not training so he can turn heads at the gym, he's training for competition, as in, he gets paid to lift heavy weights. Kind of like your job flipping burgers, except a little more exciting.
@RippinSkullz Do you stikll lift? My DL max is 545. Which is 2.369 times my bodyweight (230lbs). And I'm also 19. I'll be nineteen for 6 more months trying to hit that 85 before i turn 20. I am only 5'9" though so i have a litttle advantage. Was your lift raw?
This dude is super strong, what a great feat of strength and i expect by now he is lifting even more. Whats even better is that the technique was safe and the range of movement was correct. Having seen his 360+kg squat atg on another brozknows video his strength is unquestionable. Fair play mate.

i need your number.... incase my car ever breaks down you can just pick it up and take it to the shop for me :p damn your fucking strong man good work!
@futuremarine2013ify Hey Forest Gump- you lift 1.8x your bodyweight 1 rep and he did over 2.5x his bodyweight for 4 reps. Looks like you can "def do more". Personally I don't think that you could even load 727 pounds on a barbell by yourself.
@BROZKNOWS You'd have to be dumb AND blind. Who could even look at that bar and think it was anywhere close to 315lbs? Could be he was just sayin "u can def do more"...as in...showing respect.
@futuremarine2013ify Just like to interject to the little yank, he is lifting 330kg not 330lb. And if you think you can deadlift 315KG I'd love to see a video of it. And just so you know... 315 is about 140kg, so he deadlifts more than double what you do and for reps.
I found that if I do max deadlift, for a couple of days after I can't loosen off very easily to do oly lifts, so I hardly ever do deadlifts.

@futuremarine2013ify Just like to interject to the little yank, he is lifting 330kg not 330lb. And if you think you can deadlift 315KG I'd love to see a video of it. And just so you know... 315 is about 140kg, so he deadlifts more than double what you do and for reps.
