  • i think the lynx and the game gear are better than the gameboy

  • @nkmetossa

hardware ? yes, maybe.. games ? not so much.

  • @MrTRIFORCE666 yeah most of the games for the lynx sucked but the game gear had both good games and good hardware

  • @nkmetossa

still, 6 AA batteries for a max playtime of 2 hours was a major pain in the ass :) i had a gamegear and i really liked the system overall, but it didnt get much attention compared to my game boy...

  • @MrTRIFORCE666 I think the gameboy line kinda sucks i like nintendo home consoles but i don't like they're portables so i use a wii as home console now but i use a psp as portable and i just think that the best portable of the three first ones is the game gear even if the lynx was my first console ever so i love nintendo home consoles but i hate they're portables

  • they should have shipped this with an anger management course coupon

  • I hated this game. There are much better titles.

  • LOL, the simpsons?

  • LOL BABBAGES

  • HOLY CRAP 4000 COLORS SWEET :D

  • over 9000 colors would have been better

  • crap compared to the game gear version.

  • Batman returns for the Atari Lynx comercial?, no he didnt return for that, he returned to stop the evil Penguin.

  • this game gets the official bat-stamp of shit

  • how could i have forgotten about this gem

  • Mmm.... Toast.

  • THE SIMPSONS

  • 4,000 colors lol don't we have like 100 billion colors now?

  • i see the simpsons 0:00

  • Here's a question has anyone seen past level one in Batman Returns for the Atari Lynx

  • too bad it doesnt have "the worlds largest handheld screen" anymore lol

  • atari seamed great at producing superiour hardware, and it failing.

    always baffled me.

    and the nintendo fan boys.

especially the ones that go on about the battery life. the atari was a teched out its tights piece of hardware for its time, of course its going to draw more power than that calculator turned games machine monochromatic mono sound joke the gameboy

a look at the spec of the much later game boy advance and the old lynx just shows how ahead of the game atari was

  • @cant1rac - Well, Epyx actually designed the original Lynx ('Handy') and Atari just bought it...though they did a nice job on the Lynx II redesign. It was nice that the Lynx was the only 'flippable' handheld for right AND left handers. S.T.U.N. RUNNER was a rather incredible port to me and my brother who loved the arcade version.

  • @xnonsuchx i knew there was third party involvment in the atari lynx, same with the jaguar, yeah the redesign by atari was a hell of a lot nicer.

wanted one at the time, (always was suprised how much the gameboy took off)

s.t.u.n runner, yeah was an incredible port i agree.

got a lynx 2 after it had died unfortunatly, and thought it was an amazing wee machine, light years ahead of the competition, was nice to see atari bring out something good after the mistakes it made with the 7800 & xegs.

  • damm if nintendo had agreed to buy the richts of the handy handheld(known today is atari lyns),i bet that we had those later upcomming snes titles allready on the go back in 1993 and that even starfox will run fine on the lynx, but we had to wait for the gba till we finaly can play great snes titles on the go.

  • @johneymute I don't know why they took so long to make such a great portable. They even acted like they were the 1st to do it.

  • @TargetRender

I don't agree. By the time the Lynx was released, Nintendo already crushed Sega.

Atari was not even a minor player at that time.

  • got it

    ooooh yeah baby

  • 0:00-0:03

    Homer simpson

  • This game was so damn hard. My brother got far but never beat it. The few times I played it, I got my ass kicked.

  • I should get this on eBay!

  • The problem with the Lynx is that it had a really crappy battery life. Today, that might not sound like a big deal, but when you're 9, and having to beg your parents for more batteries every other day, it can be a real problem.

  • @Talloweed My parents bought me the ac/dc adapter so I'd stop bugging them. Only thing is I had to sit near a plug in to use it.

  • wow $50.00 for a portable game was a lot back then. I remember buying games for my old gameboy for like $25.00

  • that's a lie there is only 3 games for this thing

  • i had this game...it's damn difficult...

  • Me too!!! Never did complete it!! I'm sure games were harder back then!!

  • was it fun? the game

  • i had it too, it was hard until i figured it out then it was fun as hell

  • I know the gamegear is better

  • I do.

  • Indeed I bought it in Antwerp almost directly it came out, it was huge but bad for your eyes when playing too long :) nintendo was and stil is crap, look at the screendots, it's for wining those dots are clumbs of sugar LOL

  • Ultimate vintage... haters don't know what they are talking about this system was available when nintendo released it's gamboy (yeah the non-color version!) and nintendo din't do backlighting till the nintendo DS!, and it had REAL 3d games, like warbirds. stil got one and it's awesome

  • Agreed! And if you get one, get a Lynx II, they are smaller, although still pretty large.

  • Agreed, it was a pretty awesome system for it's time... this game was hard as hell...

  • @mcmitalian3 Yeah, and it had only 4 levels

  • Wow! I don't remember this commercial. I do remember the Lynx though, but I never had it. I think there was an episode of Full House where two twin girls were playing with them though.

Very nice Job! Keep up the great work! Thanks for posting!

    A++++++++

Have a great night. a great day tommorrow, a great night tommorrow, a great week, a great month and a great week! Puerto Rican Love from New York City!

  • i bouth a lynx 2 for € 0.50

  • I remember using a pencil and eraser to alter a receipt because I didn't buy my Lynx recently enough to get the free game deal. It worked.

Being poor sure makes you think different.

  • @frigginjoe wow, mustve been a really old fashioned shop to write the receipt

  • @frigginjoe You ever bought a cheap game like Poke'mon Ranger for $4.99 at Toys R Us and taken it to Wal-Mart to get a $34.99 game instead? Or bought Bakugan at Sears for $4.97 and took it to Wal-Mart to get a $39.99 game instead/ I thought about it, but my concious bothered me. Though I did return an opened game to Meijer for a new one which I traded at Wal-Mart for a different game.

  • Lol, Simpsons at the start :)

  • itsso shitty

  • why does anyone care about if it has over 4,000 COLORS????????

  • Largest color screen?

    more like the largest fucking

    handheld video game system ever!

  • to think of that after a year of playing this fuck of a game I actually beat it.. the ending must've been one of the biggest disappointments in my life

  • hard game

  • i like it how the commerical lynx looks so colorful but the actul lynx itself was shitty and you had to tilt it a certain way to even see wats going on! wow how as kids we were mis-led and lied by these commericals lol

  • Oh man, I think the swan song of any failing console is when they start advertising free games when you buy them, or...if you're sega...they start giving the console itself away for free

  • Has anyone gotten past Level 1 in this game?

  • Are those the Olson twins?

  • probably pallette of 4000 colours, not onscreen, def not, looked like about 128 colours onscreen

  • Yeah, thats bullshit. The Atari Lynx was made of leftovers from the Amiga project. (The guys who made the Commodore Amiga were working first for Atari.. then they left Atari an took their project to Commodore, and Atari got what they had from the project to do the Lynx).

Lynx showed just 32 colors on screen at best, from a 4096 colors pallete. Sometimes games would have just 16 colors to keep the speed up.

  • yeh your right about 32 colours when i look

  • 4000 colours!!!!!!!!!

  • Simpsons at the beginning!

  • this game is nice

  • can someone help? i wanna beat this friggen game! i dug it out of a box in the garage after 15 years and im desperate to see the end. anyone know why the cheats wouldnt work for it? did they make a non cheatable cart?

  • To defeat the 1st boss : stand on the bar left.then duck and shoot batarangs on his head by holding the shoot button. you need about 40-50 batarangs.

Level 2 : shoot only the cops with a shotgun.

  • I had the batman returns pack.

I got it for christmas. When my mum went out I sneaked into her room to get it out and play it.

She came home and I hid in my room while she beat down the door in a fit of rage.

    I was scared.

    Very scared.

She said she would take it back to the shop and I wouldn't be getting it for christmas.

    She lied!

I got it in the end and for a while I walked around with this massive thing in my school blazer.

  • I finished this game without cheating....

  • how do u beat the first boss

i played it wen i was like 7 and couldnt beat him

  • HAHA WOW! I'm watching an episode of the Simpsons, and i created a new tab to view this and bam! Simpsons at the beginning. What a coincidence

  • Wow, pretty nice this system!

  • i had to put in codes to beat this game, it was unbelievably hard

  • It should rather be "On the largest portable video game system in the world"... No really, although it is huge, it still looks stylish and isn't a bad system at all (I've got one)

  • hahaha "with over 4000 colours"

  • actually thats pretty impressive considering the master system for example only has 5000 colours

  • The sega master system had 64 total colors.

  • no, the master system had a total of 16 on-screen colours, the megadrive/genesis had a total of 64 no screen colours, when they say that the lynx has a total os 5000 colours they mean the its colour pallete not its on-screen colours, otherwise that lynx would have the same grafix card as the super nintendo

  • SMS: 16 on-screen colors, from a TOTAL of 64

    Linx: 16 on-screen colors, from a total of 4,096

    SNES: 256 on-screen colors, from a total of 32,768

  • hey how much can the genesis hold?

  • genesis has a colour pallete of 512 colours, but it can only display 64 on screen colours

  • Sigh..Babbages

  • that game is impossibe to finish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • was that the simpsons before the commercail?? i swear i saw marge?

  • Yes they was.

  • Got the Atari, got this Batman game.

I prefer PSP but it's nice too hahahaha!!!!

  • Atari Lynx uber alles
