  • 56 years old and sings like this still. I have been a New Order fan since 1985. I was right then, and I am still right today. I know that Mr Sumner is 56 because we where both born on the same day.

  • Sweet.

  • It is quite obvious Coldplay was first to make the chord progression, but damn, i started laughing when i first heard it. Almost like the new rock roll. New Order are on of my favorite bands, so is Coldplay. No need to bash them.

  • FRENTE!!!

  • @wanzulfadhli90 NEW ORDERRRR!!!

  • There is nothing new under the sky just re-arrangements. but it is obvious who's child this is.

even almost 30 years later an is as beautiful and fresh as the first time.

    Thank you Bernard.going on strong!!!

  • Glad to see other people realise Cold Play ripped this off. Bernard Sumner - ex New Order, still doin it.

  • I actually do like Coldplay. But New Order's way better. This video is great.

  • I fucking hate coldplay (even more) right now

  • Muito bom!

  • New Order were/are untouchable. Coldplay on the other hand are a cup of cold sick. Exactly as exciting as Stereophonics. And probably just as awful.

  • @busterabcat lol brilliant

  • Fnchy....you made my day.....this is just freakin brilliant.......Im learning guitar right now and it has everything to do with New Order/Joy Division.....and acoustic remakes of their stuff......brilliant, underrated, and underappreciated stuff.....God bless you for posting this......like Bernard said, "that's pretty"

  • amazing. Beautiful.

  • I USED TO RUUULE THE WORLD...ops...Wrong song!

  • these are amazing love bernard and these were epic recordings

  • Seeing as this is Bad Lieutenant and this session's from either 2008 or early 2009 I'm guessing the Coldplay reference with the rhythm at the start was intentional - seeing as both songs share a common chord progression.

  • @Lihyahm ahh mate this is a new order song there is only one guy from bad lieutenant bearny is from new order and phil is now in new order and B.L

  • @97pook i know it's a new order song, and bernard and phil were originally from new order, but it's bad lieutenant that's playing the song here, seeing as it's bernard, phil and jake, which makes up bad lieutenant.

  • @Lihyahm and stephen morris who is from both and hes not there

  • @97pook stephen's not officially a member of bad lieutenant iirc, officially he's only the live drummer or something. he might be now, i'm not sure, but i know he wasn't when this session was recorded.

  • Favourite version of my all time favourite song. The world is a much better place for Joy Division, New Order. If only Ian Curtis still lived. Legend!!!!!!!

    Well done Bernie.....

  • excellent!

  • who would dislike this...

  • whys he wearing that public masturbator trench coat though? :/

  • Still retains its excellent voice..

  • legend

  • What would the world be without your voice, Bernard....

  • Unreal!

  • in the beginning and throughtout some of the guitars sounds like beginning of "crazy on you' by Heart

  • I saw Bad Lieutenant in Brighton, and saw on the teleprompter they were going to do this, but they ran out of time... gutted...

  • Every time I see you falling...I get down on my knees and pray

One of most beautiful love songs I ever heard.

  • Superb!!!!!

  • Bernie = god

  • SUPER!!!!!!!

  • this is OK BUT what helps make this song is the musical instruments from the video

  • Brilliant watched the full show on sky arts HD & love Joy Division/New Order grew up listening to them :) .

  • MTV should've given the New Order an "Unplugged" special. Then again, I can think of a lot of electronic bands that should've gotten an episode of Unplugged.

    1. Information Society (An acoustic version of "Repetition" = Awesome)

    2. Erasure (Would've worked perfectly)

    3. Depeche Mode (No problem)

    4. Pet Shop Boys (Oh Yeah!)

  • thank you thank you

  • I´m pretty amaze about the sound quality , and bernard always was a great musician and singer ... Bravo!

  • Very cool thank you for posting, brings me good memories. :)

  • soberbio!!!!

  • wow, mnogo dobro ! one of the best eighties pop songs.

  • Um, Coldplay.....bwah! they rip everyone off.

  • I'm crying.... Nostalgia.... Thanks!

  • Genial! Muy bueno!

  • At first i thought it was viva la vida by coldplay..chord progression sounds similar. Great song though :)

  • @heyjudeee Me too, haha. Would be a good mash up, actually.

Either way, both songs are lovely.

  • Yes indeed :)

  • @heyjudeee Coldplay sucks

  • @heyjudeee The chord progression in viva la vida is also very similar to that of Take On Me by A-ha. It's only changed slightly.

  • wow so good!

  • coldhandmurr - check out "songbook" series on Sky Arts. Every night the most incredible artists. The guys who are playin' with bernard are from his new band Bad Leutenant - but this is a classic New Order song and achingly Sumner..

  • amazing!!!

the mic is Korby, but which capsule? Not C800 anyway, but not sure which one? 251?

  • I'll see if I can find out. I mixed the tracks though didn't record them and had no interaction with the record engineers.

  • thanks! It'd be nice!! Although it's all too context specific (the voice, the room, mic pre's, cables, etc...other instruments and their signal chains). I can say that you've done a very nice job here - it sounds very warm and intimate.

    regards

  • very nice, yet sad in a way, it still feels like yesterday hearing this, but yet so long ago. It's almost like he feels the same way too.

  • Bernard Sumner has such an innocence and naivete that warms the heart of a listener. He had it twenty years ago, and it still pervades. His unassuming humility is endearing. This song will always reign supreme.

  • What was this from??

  • Bernard Sumner it's my favorite singer ever!

  • Best acoustic version ever. What a lucky thing growning up across '80/ '90 with this music.

  • Géniale cette version acoustique...New Order est un groupe que j ai vénéré....dans les années 80

  • does anyone know what chord progressions are used for this acoustic version on the guitar? many thanks

  • I believe its D-E-Amaj7--D

  • I love this song for so many years!

Didn´t know it can sound so great accoustic! What a thrill!

Thanks so much for uploading it.

    Already on my favs list.

  • Have you heard the Frente version? that's pretty good and worth a look on this site.

  • Yeah, It´s a nice cover, I´ve heard it before some years ago, the girl has a sweet voice.

But Bernard´s accoustic version is "The Real Deal"

    Perfect!

  • Bernard is amazing...

    his voice is so wonderful!!!!

Long live to Joy Division... Long live to New Order... and now Long live to Bad Lieutenant!!!!!!!

    Bravo!!!!!!

  • Oops, I meant Viva la Vida of course

  • Sooo much better than La Vida Loca

  • Wow after hearing this version, there is no way Coldplay can say they did not steal the music.......WOW

  • wait, i am confused on what you are saying, can you elaborate on your statement?

did coldplay cover this song, or do you mean the style of music?

  • @valk77 i thaught the exact same thing. but its only the same chords though

  • Is it wrong I hope they play some of these songs for their Bad Lieutenant gigs? It'd be amazing.

  • Man, New Order rules. Great song.

  • BERNARD I LOVE YOU

  • Fantastic thanks for posting it

  • Bernard - Pernod and OJ ?

  • thought it was viva la vida for a minute in the beginning

  • Exactly same thought

Same kind of chord progression :)

  • yeah, i did as well, i guess it was the beat- this acoustic version is amazing

  • The best acoustic arrangement I've heard of this song , much better than Frente's version.

FYI The earliest acoustic version was done by Devine & Statton in 1989 but that is very rare and, IMHO, pretty unlistenable.

  • Hold your horses!, the Devine and Statton version is up on YT - you can now make up your own minds

  • Yes, I only posted them on here because I thought they were excellent, and hopefully more of Bernard's fans will get to appreciate them! ;)

  • bless you for posting this. i can't get enough of the interviews and now i get to listen to him sing one of my favorite songs acoustic. you didn't just make my day, but literally my life will be better having this tune accessible and there to enjoy.

thank you so much, have a great day and thanks for the incredible post

  • @Fnchy thank you mon frere

  • actually this song came out way before coldplay was even a band

  • Really good song! :)

I think it sounds a little bit like Viva la Vida by Coldplay in the Intro, but i might have heard wrong!

  • You're right

  • Magic song!

    I love you.

  • Incredible

  • funny how when you play the opening bit on guitar it sounds like the opening to vida la vida LoL

  • When was this? What a surprise!

  • Who would of thought ?

Barney the muso lol. Sounds good though..

  • Awesome!

  • Magnifique version acoustique!!!Merci

  • Hi incredible posting thanks sharing this!!!
