  • Bellissimoooooo..... Grazie e sempre Viva Caruso.. .

  • In the discography listed on page 296 of the Dorothy Caruso biography of her husband, Enrico Caruso, entitled "Enrico Caruso His Life And Death," entry 103, shows a recording date of 1898-99, and a mark/size/1st number as P 14 84006, and notes "also on Pathe cylinders Also re-issued on regular cut C.R.S. 10 6" Rightly or wrongly that is the information I rely upon.

  • according to his wife, Caruso made this recording somewhere between 1898-1899

  • @FISTRIG While not impossible, this recording date would be very unlikely. To my knowledge, the recording year 1903 is well documented. Another hint for 1903 is the playback speed of approx. 160rpm, which should have been lower if it was a pre-1902 recording. 160rpm had just become a semi-standard in 1902. Pathé did re-release some French 1899 recordings, like La Muet Mélomane by Charlus which would still run at 120rpm.

  • Just amazing! Caruso is considered the greatest tenor of all time and here we have these primative recordings to back some of that claim up. I for one am impressed!

  • Thanks for posting this!
