Another way to boot windows in the vm would be to create a virtual floppy boot disk that selects the windows partition to boot thus you could have the timeout in grub and not need to worry about selecting the right partition in the virual machine.
Cool, but as far as people who want to at least be able to get to the files on the linux partition from windows, I stumbled on a program called Ext2 IFS for Windows, which will allow you to do so.
I really want fuse implemented in windows that would allow it to use a lot of different file systems. Also if you use LVM on linux it makes it difficult to mount linux partitions from windows.
VirtualBox FTW

"Winix"? You mean "Lindoze"?

This technique also works with VMware Server 1.0.8 (and possibly lower). 2.0 does not offer the ability to select a physical hard drive.

Question: could you not choose the partition instead of the full disk?

I agree.
Though, I am having permission issues

I suggest using my boot floppy idea

doesn't look like vista can do it anyways without being able to have multiple hardware profiles.

I love you man that virtual floppy is awesome exactly what I have been looking for for a long time.

very few 3d stuff work in virtual machines. I do love vmware workstation and there is experimental 3d support.
