This tune was the finale at the last North Sea Jazz Festival at Den Haag...they left the audience (and me) spellbound. Fine example of Shorter's compositional prowess.
@mountainbikingchick Wayne Shorter live in Tokyo 2004 by Jazz door... But honestly, the quality of the pics is not top notch... Check out 3Sat instead...
What would thought Miles Davis about this reunion? What would thought Miles Davis about Brian Blade? What would thought Bitches Brew? I think that maybe he would never stop...is so wonderfull look at Brian Blade play drum and be happy ... Miles said us: "Milesmile" never stop !

It seems Brian cant make up his mind whether he is a rock or jazz Drummer.matched and traditional grip.Man i love it!What a unique style,if only Miles was still with us what a group this would have been!Doesnt get much better.irie blue.
This sounds like early acoustic Weather Report. They're pushing the envelope of sound and substance here. ESP and Zen equals magic. The identity of Wayne's composition is evident. This is above jazz and classical music. It's like modern classical composed music. Mozart, Scriabin, Stravinsky and Miles would be proud.
So much of the count in between the chord hits must be felt as well as counted. It's not like they're sitting there counting perfectly, the measures in between........there is a certain feel with which they are all in tune. Still, with Brian Blades fills, he is amazingly accurate along with the rest of the band, with hitting those chords together.
@grooveman84 estoy de acuerdo, el tipo te transporta y como baterista es excepcional, un estilo muy refinado y/o libre, en ciertos aspectos me recuerda a Elvin Jones y Max Roach.

Cosmic, extraterrestial, haunting yet the tension is released harmonically and rhythmically. Wayne just set the vibe. And everybody followed!
