  • I don't agree with his political views but I still love his music.

  • sorry about my last comment posting many times, I just kept trying again after it said that it failed to post the first time

  • I learned that this song was sung to Will Geer on his deathbed. (A perfect tribute) Geer was 'Grandpa Walton' from the Waltons. He was an old hippie who to his misfortune was blacklisted by the likes of Joe McCarthy in the dark ages of the 50's. My god, how many lives did McCarthy ruin?

  • I am 13 years old and I apologize for what my generation has done to music

  • @KhaarJoon No need to apologize, just enjoy all generations worth of good music. Even Woody Guthrie and his son, Arlo, though generations apart both contributed music worth listening to in their own inimitable ways. Right?

  • Here, everyone do this. Imagine Woody Gutherie is singing this song to an Okie in California, and asking him to compare his world with what guys like Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin were intending and it'll make a whole lot more sense.

  • @TheKatkat72 Try looking up the lyrics.

  • This is song is about how America was created to be a place for everybody, and created with the highest ideals. It's also about how the country has failed to live up to those loft ideals for so many people.

  • This is not about Communism. This is an orignal folk song about a man's travels in this wonderful country.

  • @TheKatkat72 You're an idiot. Woody Gutherie wrote this song to talk about how much it sucked to be poor in America during the great depression (and since then.) The line "this land is your my land this land is my land" is about how this country was created for the people in this country and now it just belongs to the wealthy and the corporations. It's also not about Communism, the song is about how this country had so pathetically failed to live up to it's promise for so many people.

  • @u0455294 You are the idiot. This song was written in 1940, long before big business took over the country. Woody Githerie

    .

  • @TheKatkat72 For one the US has always been ruled by big business much like any other country on earth just go read about Standard Oil, the railroad companies, mining companies, etc all of which were pre-1940 and secondly would you people stop arguing over something so stupid...If there is one thing Woody believed was that we should work for the better of each other not create stupid divisions amongst each other like being communist or not

  • @TheKatkat72 You have a lot to learn. A.) Big business has run this country since the middle of the nineteenth century. B.) Woody Gutherie became a staple of the union movement during the Great Depression. When millions of Americans couldn't find work, the Okies were being exploited throughout California, and strike breakers were beating union members Gutherie became a symbol of solidarity. You should try reading "The Grapes of Wrath" and you'll get a better understanding of Gutherie's world.

  • RIP Woody...Still listening and the Columbia is still moving

  • Found it! :3

  • not necessarily about communism, just about being united

  • @MissMuffinToYou "The sign was painted, said PRIVATE PROPERTY, but on the back side no it didn't say nothin...This Land was made for you and Me." Communism seeks to abloish privaate property and Guthrie made apoint of saying that private property doesn't matter becuase this land was made for you and me. Communist.

  • @MissMuffinToYou Communism seeks to abloish private property and Guthrie made apoint of saying that private property doesn't matter becuase this land was made for you and me. Thus the song Is about Communism.

  • love all the comments slating MrMarshallfan mistake in where the origins of this song are from. take a look at who she is. A kid from Scotland. We all make mistakes when we are young and naive, ease up! its anyones song.

  • Thumbs if you wish you coulda wrote this!

  • Greatest socialist/communist anthem ever :')

  • great song....all economic and political theories turn toxic when exposed to humans for a long enough period...try and enjoy the tunes...

  • Except for Communists.

  • This is what should be played during the 7th inning stretch.

  • This song was intended to be the anti-God Bless America. He considered the lyrics to ''God Bless America'' to be unrealistic and smug, so he decided to write his own version. He originally called it "God Bless America for Me''. WOOOO

  • So the best tool to eliminate fascism is the guitar.

  • I dont see why people say "I came here for good music" All music is good music, It has just adapted with the lifestyles that we live now. I realize that this is very pure music, but there are other artists that make music today that are pure, and talk about the real things. For instance, Nevershoutnever. All of their songs are about what matter. Yes, Nicki Minaj might make most of her music for money, but it is still music to be appreciated and not taken for granted. :)

  • i'm from Brazil, why am i here?

Oh, i forgot, i'm here for great music.

  • One commandment specifically reminds, Remember to keep Holy the Sabbath. The Sabbath is Saturday. Sunday worship/Pagan Satanic Sun Worship. Easter was a Pagan day of Satanic Tribute entailing dying eggs in the blood of 2 month old infants. Instead of having someone read you the Bible, read it for yourself. He wrote the 4th Commandment in stone. Jesus did not teach how to fail the Ten Commandments.

  • @waketheoblivious I Feel As Long As You Hold A Sabbath Day Holy (Sunday, Saturday, Friday) Thats Respectable. Everyone Argues The Bible, You Can Make Your Own Decisions Off Of It. People Say Jesus Wasn't Born On Christmas. I'm Still Gonna Worship His Birthday, On Christmas.

  • What is the difference between Government and a Psychopathic Serial Killer? Nothing, they both have no conscience. "Government is a necessary Evil" - Churchill Why, because Government has no conscience and government invariably tries to displace God as a moral authority. If you think Government giving you a right necessarily makes it right you are not just a fool your a God damned fool because Government is not God. Break the first commandment and the other 9 are just a matter of time.

  • @waketheoblivious We have The Right To Bear Arms, Not Just To Protect Us From An Invading Army, But To Protect Us From A Government That Has Become To Powerful And Opresses The People. If A Government Gets Out Of Line, We Have The Right To Challenge Them. If You Think You Work For The Government, You're A Fool. They Work For Me!

  • @generationy2k1

They control the United Nations Forces. A foreign army brought in to enforce martial law, could care less what the constitution of the United States says. If Martial Law is declared, the US Constitution is dissolved, that was part of the agreement that Congress passed after 911. Bush signed NAU agreement and did not even consult Congress. I agree with what you are stating. Face it, a 4 Star General who devoted his career to defend the Constitution was denied his right to trial

  • @waketheoblivious At first I thought your post was supposed to be satire. Shame on you for actually believing in this drivel.

  • @greiner3

You are proof, the demand for stupid always exceeds price.

  • The reason why Classical Economic Theory is not taught in schools should be blatantly obvious. Economics is a Social Science and it scientifically proved the existence of the Principle of Self Interest, Laws of Supply & Demand and the Invisible Hand. Invisible Hand, was the metaphor Adam Smith deliberately chose to be synonymous with God. Teach proven Classical Economic Theory it disproves the Theory of Evolution. We were warned of the Master of Deception. "ignorance is bliss" - Satan

  • There will never be another Woody Guthrie

  • Love, love, love this song!

  • I remember this playing in Elementary school; I didn't think much of it. But now that I look back.. This song truly touched my heart.. Memories <3

  • This Machine Kills Fascists. ♥

  • i grew up on woody Guthrie and am actually named after him. today kids are growing up on bieber and nickelback, i shed a single tear for this generation

  • Yes this land is everybody's land and I think that is what Woody is trying to say here. The land belongs to God and all who inhabit it and that is what I really get and share from this song. I hope other people agree with me because I would rather not be the only one to feel this way. Take care and have a good day. Teddy

  • @TWaln103 What if I told you I stood up from the toilet after taking a hot poop and I flushed and I swear I saw God swirling in the bowl. I swear. This land is your land more than it is mine. See how privileged you are now? Mmmm

  • ANTIFA!

  • You have more waffles,

    Than a house of Pancakes.

    You offer flip-flops,

    I offer tax breaks.

    You're a UN pussy,

and yes it's true that I kick ass,

  • 3rd best song of the 20th century (search wikipedia for details)

    kind of underated ...

  • a communist song from the US... big dreams Mr Guthrie, you gave me big dreams... and one hope..

Because I'm still beliving that a free man is a brother for other free men.. no matter where you were born, no matter your race, you're a free man, and you know you have brothers and sisters all over the world...thanks Mr. Guthrie

  • @diaurus84 Excellent comment my friend. I am brother with you.

  • on the other side it said it didnt say nothing that land was made for you and me

  • RIP buddy.

  • 29 people need to get away

  • have to thank Tom Morello for finding Woody Guthrie, he sang this song.

Everybody of OWS: Continue not only for America, but for everybody. Much love from Croatia

  • @TheCftygv im with occupy kansas city. are there occupations in Croatia?

  • @hamsterbass123 Yes there is, We are the 99% and can gather in Zagreb (the capital city). Good luck in Kansas City my brother/moi brate !!

  • @hamsterbass123 occupy getting a job, damn democrats trying to take all my freedom and guns. A government big enough to give you anything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have.

  • @generationy2k1 Really, who gives a shit what you say, especially when it's garbage. If government is too big for you then get the fuck out of here, you republican jackass.

  • @holden1787 It's Easy For You To Say Now, Your Economy Is In The Gutter, TY Obama, Your Turning This Country Around! Big Government Sounds Appealing. Obama Care Has Us In The Gutter. You Don't Have To Get Aggressive. Laws Were Made To Protect People Like Me And You, Not So I Get Thrown In Jail For Smoking Weed! Who Am I Hurting? Republican Jackass That!!!

  • den song haben wir momentan in der schule, voll der ohrwurm

  • If you down thumb this song, then you are a hopeless, cruel and greedy son of a bitch.

    Woody's machine will kill you.

  • Seriously?, if you people think this song is original then you douche bags have another thing coming!, this song was first made by an Irish man who lived in Glasgow, Scotland.. Then from generations on the IRA supporting band, " The Wolf Tones ". I know this because 1.. Im from Scotland and know everything there is to know about my country's history. And 2.. IM NOT STUPID!

  • @MrMarshallFan No, you dumbass, this was originally written by Woody Guthrie and was adopted by other countries and people who adapted it to fit their countries. It was a communist-themed song meant to unite Americans in understanding why they should be focused on being a group of people rather than separate social classes. I'm glad you're proud to be a Scottish idiot but get your shit straight. So, yes, you ARE STUPID.

  • @beatleaddict

Adam Smith published Classical Economic Theory over 250+ years ago. He scientifically proved the existence of the Principle of Self Interest, Laws of Supply & Demand and the Invisible Hand/God. Self Interest pitted against itself in a Free Market generates abundance. That same self interest in a Controlled Market (Socialism/Communism) guarantees scarcity and shortages. The only combination that can generate abundance is Capitalism/Free Market all others theoretically Fail.

  • Explain to me how something that can not be made to work in Theory is supposed to work in reality? Right, can not be done. If it can not be made to work in theory it damn sure is not going to work in reality either. Know why people argue on behalf of Socialism/Communism? Ignorance and the conscious choice to remain ignorant. Classical Economic Theory was proven true and correct over 250+ years ago. Latest diversion, Austrian Theory. Can't disprove Classical so dazzle em with bullshit.

  • @waketheoblivious

Austrian Theory is not a diversion from Classical Theory, it is a continuation of it.

  • @beatleaddict

Every man born upon this earth is born a Capitalist, proven by the fact it is out of Self Interest we take our first breath. A government school, with a government school teacher assigns reading a government textbook. Notice something missing in American Schools? Right, they don't teach Capitalism. Instead they equate Capitalism to the Capitalist Pigs on Animal Farm who were Corrupt Pigs. Adam Smith proved Classical Theory 250+ years ago. Today 90% of humanity are braindead sheep

  • @MrMarshallFan Epic fail !

  • @MrMarshallFan

Please don't make comments like that again mate, it embarasses us. Scottish patriotism is best when it doesn't involve that bloody chip on our shoulders. Try to eradicate it and look to the future.

  • @MarvellousMuffin Wearing a skirt are ya?

  • @holden1787

Would you believe I've never worn a kilt in my life? Modern kilts are just skirts anyway. The old kilt had a practical purpose - you could wear it as a cloak to keep the rain out, use it as a blanket, create pouches for supplies etc. Nowadays they're cut down so much they're just skirts for men, really.

  • good, great beautiful song!!!

  • мы на уроке эту песенку слушали

  • Thank you Woody for this awesome song.

  • It's odd... I very much feel listening to this song that I can see through Woody's eyes on his travels across this country, nearly a century ago.

God bless the person who decided that this should be committed to recording.

  • 27 people..... well, I just don't know what's wrong with those 27 people...

  • this sounds like a communist song

  • @TYmrman xD hahah u just made my day

  • this song was actually made by someone who hated america for stealing the land from the natives. A few tweaked lyrics later and its a classic American folk song

  • Being honest, the words should be "this land was your land, and now its my land"

  • This is the real This Land Is Your Land. Not those crappy modern day covers

  • Money is the centre of all evil.

  • This land was made for all of us. Not just fascists.

    R.I.P woody.

  • He said it just the way it is. This is our land. Not mine, but ours

  • peter bursch!!!

  • I have often wondered how First Nations people feel hearing this song. It's a great song and I just adore Woody; I just wonder.

  • @SolomonJonesIsBack

WTF? Guthrie had an economic agenda, not a racial agenda, and certainly not a religious agenda. He had no problem with the numerous Native Americans (yes, their ancestry is here and they were born here) in Oklahoma or anywhere else.

  • @fearlessfred14 Keep telling yourself that, white devil. Just so you know, us black men are taking over and this time WE will be the slave owners.

  • @SolomonJonesIsBack Troll, don't feed it please!

  • @SolomonJonesIsBack That there sounds like racist talk boy, only idiots are racist, you an idiot boy?

  • @dazmin100 I don't know, are you an idiot, honky?

  • @SolomonJonesIsBack Why are you pretending to be a black man, you are clearly white (I checked your channel, and that ain't no black panthers favourite videos nes pas?)

  • @dazmin100 OOH... SOMEONE WENT ON A BACKGROUND. ;) jk

  • @dazmin100 I don't have anything on my channel except for a few songs by a band i like. how does that prove i'm not black? not every black man is a black panther, honky.

  • @SolomonJonesIsBack Trolling AND blocking messages, what a cowardly little troll. Understand who you are supposed to be you retard, there is no chance in hell a black guy liked that awful wailing shit you have on your site, seriously, your woeful ignorance and questionable music taste have let you down...FAIL. Honkey

  • Comment removed

  • @SolomonJonesIsBack Whitey, oh that is so not rock, and if you are going to cast your verbal turds around on other peoples channels when someone pulls you up on being a gob shite the least you can do is let them write shite over your channel you nazi twat. Anyone pretending to be black to spread race hate deserves to hear what those with less shit for morals have to say...red neck twat. Careful now this machine kills fascists.

  • @dazmin100 People CAN write on my channel, genius. I have it set to that. And Rolling Stone disagrees with you about them being rock n roll. Go ahead, post on my channel. And OH BIG BLACK MAN gonna threaten me over youtube? People like you are the reason we're still being discriminated against. And I don't take whitey as an insult, because all races are equal, even if i WAS white, who cares? You do, apparently. Racist.

  • @dazmin100 In fact people already HAVE written on my channel. What are you, retarded or something?

  • @SolomonJonesIsBack No shit for brains, you have it set to friends only, hence your cowardice, also you fucking idiot you set out pretending to be a racist black man, as a white man who objects to anti black racism I was just as offended when you wrote racist nonsense, I then realised you were just a sad red neck shithead and now you have been caught acting up you seem embarrassed. Oh and rolling stone seems to have expanded its' definition of rock and roll to include middle of the road shite.

  • @SolomonJonesIsBack and now your bitching about it you whiny little red neck turd.

  • now i understand why tom morello uses to decorate his guitars... :D

  • deep down, 25 people are shallow

  • This song goes a lot deeper than most people realize,a very powerful song!!!

  • "A sign was painted it said 'private property', but on the back side it didn't say nothing" I love that.

  • Last two verses, for those who would like them.

In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,

    By the relief office I seen my people;

As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking

Is this land made for you and me?

Nobody living can ever stop me,

    As I go walking that freedom highway;

Nobody living can ever make me turn back

This land was made for you and me.

  • @ShaytanBozorg

dirty fascist capitalist stooge go suck your corporate master's dicks

  • @realisticsocialist, fuck off.

  • Comment removed

  • Wasnt this land the native americans'

  • Woody had it right.. We shouldn't be so worried about who's land is who's.. People need to learn to share more, would make this country stronger than it is even today. People don't seem to realize that sharing and working together is important.

  • wow they didn't include the last two verses :/

  • @Cuddlebunny3548 LOL, child. This is folk music. Traditional music. Roots music. Without Folk, you wouldn't have the crap you listen to today.

  • @Cuddlebunny3548 Sorry, they didn't have autotune back then. You had to actually listen to a real person. *gasp*

  • Hilarious. Attempts by right-wing jerks to claim Woody Guthrie as one of their own reminds me of how Mormons rebaptize the dead as Mormons.

  • "This land is your land/ This land is my land" sounds kinda socialistic, but thankfully the "private property" part rules that out.

  • @beneathdatrees0

Guthrie was clearly a socialist, and this is a critique of private property.

  • @darlincommitme ehh he just likes public property.

  • RIP woody Huntingtons disease is such a terrible disease alsso wanted to say something actually about the song great song lol thats about it

  • I have always liked this song. It is nice and smooth in tempo.

  • Funny how this song is no longer sung in American schools these days.

  • Woody is smiling in his grave about all this debate on YT ... keep it going.

  • I just read that some anti-banking French protesters sang this song when they were protesting today. They need to transcribe his songs in to Spanish, because a lot of 'em are about migrants.

  • @ DieWalrossen - I suppose it depends on your version of patriotism. Capitalism and Patriotism are not interchangeable words by the way. A Farmer owning land and farming would be an example of someone engaging in a capitalistic enterprise but keeping Hobos from walking on his property was seen as Fascism by people like Woody Guthrie. He's not advocating stealing a farmers crops or money, just a traveling man's amount of freedoms.

  • Woody is occupying the shit out of wall street right now.

  • @mcboltron great

  • woody guthrie was an anarchro socialist i belive

  • @skw1zz - yup..Syndicalist. He had the right idea. Of course he got caught up in the russian revolution, and was rooting for them.... but once he found out the dictatorship that came fro the Soviets he denounced them.

  • @SolomonJonesIsBack You're an idiot. Indians are from India - they call them Native American's because they were the natives in America when Europe came over and stole it. It doesn't mean that they were here since the dawn of time. If aliens came from outer space we would be considered "native Americans" to them because we are the ones that would be native here when they arrived.

  • @metalwillhatecrew that's my point. who says they were here when us europeans got here? some guy in a history book? were YOU there to see it? they probably came over shortly after the europeans got here and tried to take credit for discovering america. why else would INDIANS be in AMERICA? columbus discovered america, and then i bet some Rajmahamashasha Shararajajahamama guy decided to come over here and CLAIM they were here first.

  • @SolomonJonesIsBack Thousands of years of relics and artifacts?

  • @SolomonJonesIsBack You don't have to believe everything in a textbook but use common sense before making statements.

  • @SolomonJonesIsBack

Guthrie was writing this as a socialist claiming the land for all... he wasn't really thinking much about Native issues. You need to read some history if you think there were no people here when Europeans showed up.

  • too bad that there isn't a live version...great song

  • Funny how Obama used this song in his campiagn and it stands against everything he does...........Jackass

  • @Paddymo27 I'm 100% sure Woody Guthrie would've been an Obama voter... Get a clue........Jackass

  • @Mozzer232 I don't want to get caught up in the arguments that go on here anymore but I am fairly certain that Woody would hate both the Republicans and Democrats as they are both extremely corrupt and are letting silly partisan politics tear the US apart both economically and ideologically

  • @Mozzer232 woody would of never have voted for Obama, woody was a man of the people he would of stayed away from the fat cat parties that is your 2 party political system today

  • @sperrell44 This is not our land anymore, not since the Rothschild Mafia (owners of Israel and the Federal Reserve) murdered JFK.

Both JFK and Ike tried to warn the American people of the Rothschild Mafia trying to take over the government but people are too stupid to figure out what was going on. After Watergate the Federal Reserve began paying media billions each year to spread their lies and propaganda to brainwash Americans.

Now we have a totally corrupt government run by criminals.

  • Anyone born here is a native American

  • @SolomonJonesIsBack you have got to be kidding me... we stoled and fucked the indians up...

  • this land is your land, this land is my land. stolen from the indians, who were killed by winchester guns. through broken treaties, and lies to them since after thanksgiving...this land was born from the blood of braves.

  • This song is pro-American. Woody Guthrie was a huge patriot and lover of the American way. But he was also a Socialist and supported the extreme left. Respect the fact that we was neither a communist pig or a right wing warmonger.

  • It is not an anti-american, anti-race, anti-immigrant song, it is simply about beautiful pieces of land being taken away by the evils.

  • Woody died Oct. 3, 1967, when I was just a month or so into first grade. Be well on the other side, Woody.

  • "What's wrong with private property?"

Technically, it is not "private" property since there is property taxes on both homes and businesses (the latter is more adept at finding loopholes around this, as opposed to homeowners not to mention the latter being rich enough to pay these taxes should their expect lawyers not find any.). We are entitled to SOME private property in your blessed USA, just not TRUE ownership of land. For example, one owns the food one buys or one's booze and cigarettes.

  • What's wrong with private property? I imagine that most of the people who are watching this live in houses or apartments. That's YOUR private property! As an individual, we are entiled to some form of private property!

  • There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me.

The sign was painted, said 'Private Property.'

But on the backside, it didn't say nothing.

This land was made for you and me.

  • Rutaloot, thanks for uploading this song. Disable the comments please, it disturbs the spirit and beauty of the song.

  • @sumdimsum though I somewhat agree with you I can not do that as that would be censoring what people say

  • @sumdimsum Woody would have your head for saying something like that...unbelievable. It IS a great song, but to shut off comments good or bad, is a joke

  • It wasn't socialism that he was praising in that song.It was freedom, absolute freedom to do whatever your hearts desire without interference from big brother,as long as you didn't hurt anyone in the process.

  • classic

  • omg orgasm

  • I sang the song yesterday!

    and i had a mark 1 !

    Great SOong !

  • There is a difference between Patriotism and Nationalism. A patriot is true to the ideals that built this country, and a nationalist blindly follows the government in the name of their country. :) True patriots will fight for the rights of the people.

  • @KissableGoddess Exactly! It is sad that many people today cannot differentiate between the two...

  • @KissableGoddess you also have to remember alot of "patriots" are the ones who kill innocents in the name of the U.S.A

  • i hate the government corrupt SOBS but i love this land long live Socialism

  • love your country, not your government, this is a patriotic song

  • @crappyconstruction well said

  • This song is, quite obviously, not an anti-American song. It is a protest against Fascism, from what could happen to America. Look that up in your Funk & Wagnall's. Seriously, how more obvious can Woody be on that point? Look at the sign, duh. And he doesn't have a gun; he is holding that terribly feared, very scary guitar. Lighten up, people. The man was pro-America. We need more of that.

  • @tarynmac1975 He was indeed pro-American and loved his country very much however he was not afraid to criticize it or it's policies when he thought it was necessary. That is the difference between Woody and the "American Patriots" of today who think being patriotic means accepting everything the government does

  • @rutaloot

Woody is a proud Socialist, and so am I.

True Socialists sees the world beyond the mere political states boundaries and the triviality of nationalism.

True Socialists always emphasize on humanity.
