  • BTW folks, you can hear an original Hammond demo 33 1/3 LP of the S6 here:

Google "hammond chord organ s6 demo"

  • Thank you for this series of videos. I have read about the S6 and now it's great to see it demonstrated.

I notice a regular periodic click on the soundtrack while you are playing -- like a scratch in a vinyl record. Is that noise coming from the Leslie?

  • @Claudius131 Thanks for your comment : ) The record scratch sound happens every time I record the organ, and I'm not 100% sure what causes it. I THINK it's the automatic recording level the camera has. I've recorded the organ from far away before, and it still has that clicking. I originally thought maybe it was electronic interference caused by the organ itself and the camera, but I think it's' the camera trying to keep the noise at a proper level.

  • @Claudius131 I have a digital voice recorder, but when I try to record the organ, the organ is overpowering, and the recording level is way too high. So I'm guessing the recorder doesn't have automatic recording level----I'll have to play with that sometime I guess. As long as the camera can record it, I'm ok. But otherwise, I don't have the equipment to do any better.

  • @drewb52

Try to play a loud chord just before you start and this should ste the auto volume to a suitable level

  • @bobbell9 The recording level in my digital camera apparently checks the volume level every second or two, which is why you hear the clicking that sounds like a record being played - at least that's what I THINK is causing the clicking sound.

However, my digital voice recorder doesn't have automatic volume level at . I have to experiment by placing it farther away from the organ speaker, and playing at softer volume levels. The organ completely overwhelms it. Experiments are needed..

  • Someone just gave me a S-6...There is only one note that doesnt make any sound...I wonder if you know if repairing this kind of organ is expensive...

  • @DrDoomOhYeah ---It really depends on what's causing that one note not to play. You can expect at least a $40 charge just to have someone come and look at it. BUT, being only the one note, maybe it would only cost you another $15 or $20. ----hard to say. I COULD be really expensive, but when the guy shows up to fix the organ, you can ask him to look into the problem and give you a diagnosis before he makes the actual repair. He can tell you how much more it would cost for the repair.

  • @drewb52 Thanks man, I hope to be able to play like you soon.... Cheers!

  • keyboardmuseum

  • @SebSirois Thanks for the comments. I'll take a look for the keyboardmuseum. I CAN play real well at times, but not so great other times. But I always enjoy it :)

  • I'm glad to hear than i'm not the only one to repeat 10 times to make a video... I think you're plying very well! The S6 Chord Organ remind me a lot of good souvenir, my rand-father use to have one with a Rhythm ace Acetone FR-2L. Thank you to share it with us on youtube. If you want you can go at that website you will have a replay of the demo cassette of this Hammond Organ

  • whats the name of the first song?

  • @provavelll - Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.

  • I've watched all 3 videos and they are great. Especially the 1st one as I have never heard or seen anyone playing chord organ before. Very exciting! Thanks.

  • @gietek Thanks for the compliment : )

  • Just Bought a Hammond S6 for our Show Room. Will newer sell it.Its unique.

  • I have never even been remotely interested in the Hammond S-6... until today. I just found one for $100... guess I'll get it after all. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Very cool! I hope you like it.

  • That was Very Nice, Thank You for Posting, in1961 I had the Hammond C-6 Chord Organ, It was my first big Organ, well at the time it wasbig after moving up from the Magnus Chord Organ....Your Friend in Music.. Bobby"D"

  • Thank you Bobby. I appreciate your comment. Nice to hear from you : )

  • I've a black S6 from about 57 - that leg volume is fine for the design. The sound is warm and has a very nice grind loud! The 'necklace' reverb is spooky, and it's amp is bigger than the dry spkrs amp.One day while raking leaves for a woman with parkinsons she said, " In the garage, aunt left it to me in her will. Play me something nice & it's yours.I've never tried a Leslie on it, but when I had a Hammond A100 I hated the Leslie 122 sound. It was me I know, but I prefer punch with reverb.Yummy

  • Hey this is superb - I'm the proud owner of a -working- 1939 Novachord and, as part of my research into the instrument, I got curious about how it compared to the Chord Organ - many thanks for making this - It sounds superb but really very different indeed to the Novachord which is a beast and much more scary in nature :)

It's a great shame that the tonewheel organs have totally eclipsed Hammond's other creations - they all need to be rediscovered - Laurens Hammond was a genius!

  • Wow, that was beatiful. I loved it!

  • first time I've ever heard an S-model in action. You play it beautifully... many thanks for making this and posting it up.

  • Fantastic job! I don't know what you were talking about with the mistakes. That was really good! Don't worry though, your hands won't always shake when you play.

Keep up the playing! Take care.

  • i had one of these (or one like it) as a kid...i wish i still had it...i loved playing it :)

    thanks for posting...

  • Adorable~. Loved it all. The Victor Herbert Toyland really 'pushed my buttons' and I adore The Waltz You Saved For Me. I, too, possess and S-6 run through a leslie Tallboy - and you have inspired me to have some videos of it playing soon.

Your video and sound quality is excellent also.

    In short - ADORABLE~.

    You Rock~.

  • Great job! First time I've heard one run through a Leslie; sounds phenomenal. Keep it up!

  • ill throw in a huge BIG-UP for that one! i never knew why so many ppl dislike this organ so much..its a magnificent piece of instrument and paired with a leslie..cool. never heard it before..dunno why ive never done it myself. Definatly underestimated organ..one can get so thick and punchy sort of synth bass from it too :) very unique sound overall. Do you have the small glasspiece that u should have under your heal for switchin pedals easy? the mostly loose there way due to time :(

  • Hi dude,

Thank you for your comments. The organ DID come with a glass disc thing that went under your heal, but it was lost before I purchased the organ used. It protect carpets or other floors from getting worn down by your heal when you switch between the 2 base pedals. I use a glass air freshener from Glade. It's a round glass disc that had air freshener gel stuck to it. When it was empty, I washed it off, and use it the same way. Works well. I'm out of room here..........

  • I DID show it in my original video, but the video was too long, so I cut that part out. YOUR organ sounds like an S-100 series since it has reverb. Mine is an S-6, before the spring reverb was invented. The amp in my Leslie, and I'm sure yours as well can REALLY produce some MEGA VOLUME! The bass notes rattle the whole house! lol. The organs are really cool. I wish I could play better and bet a Hammond B3! Maybe in my next life. lol. Thank you again for your comments : )

  • well. mine is for sure a S6 but most likely equipped with springreverb at a later point..perhaps when it was purchased for the first time in 62..i saw the papers for it. the reverbamp comes from a m/A100 organ. unfortunatly it produces somekind of feedback which rises at uncomfortable levels some times :) well i connected mine to the leslie last night and Oh boy what a distortion!! today i took care of the output level and now it works fine!btw,i have a hammond model A from 37 comin my way soon
