  • thanks for the vids, i am building my own psl right now,

i got my kit through centerfire systems as well, and got my receiver through tnguns

tnguns now sells the rivet kit for these

my kit is a mismatched kit=bummer=i dont think headspacing will be an issue=i think that oversizing the barrel pin wont be an issue

    any advice would be appreciated

  • Great video series I really enjoyed watching and I learned a tremendous amount about my prospective build. I am just concerned because I do not have a lathe to make the custom rivets.

  • @MrElbowgrease No problem! ak-builder now sells rivet sets for the PSL. Too bad nobody sold them when I put this kit together!

  • @ginsboy2003 also wondering my press is not a 20 ton I have an 8 and a 12 do you think I will have a problem pressing the barrel?

  • @MrElbowgrease The only problem you may have is the clearance for the barrel when pressing it in. I have a small 12 ton press, but it doesn't have the height needed to press a barrel in.

  • Some guys have done screw builds to assemble AK kits, however I wouldn't use screws on a PSL build.

  • I'm a nooby when it comes to metal working/ drilling ect.. Can I just do without the rivets? Or do I have to do all the things you did to build it, as in can I just put the parts together as is?

  • @mattbaerg you really need to be able to rivet the receiver in. Guys have used screws in AK builds, but I wouldn't use them on a PSL.

  • Would you make a video on how to heat treat a folded receiver?

  • @akelelias

Sure, but keep in mind the receiver used in this video is a factory receiver.

  • Question. Why did you have to remove the barrel from the trunion, Will it not install in the receiver as is?

  • @akelelias

No, not if you wish to install it correctly. If you were doing a screw build it could have stayed in place but the only way to correctly rivet the front trunnion in is to remove the barrel. If you have seen the AGI video where they use the barrel to try to buck the rivets in, just realize thats the WRONG way to do and the riveting is weaker.

  • @ginsboy2003 Ah ok. Thank you for your prompt response. Am getting interested in building one but noone seem to have a receiver for it. I called center fire system but they are out

  • @akelelias

A guy just messaged me two days ago saying he got a receiver from tennesse guns.

  • @akelelias i just picked up a romanian receiver (psl) from tennesse guns (tgi) just a couple weeks ago for 139$...it came in in perfect condition ...it had the bolt hold open already installed, but was missing the small piece that actually holds the bolt open..other than that it's great quality....

  • @akelelias oh, and when you go to their site....you have to search "fpk receiver" for it to come up...if you type "psl receiver" you will find nothing...

  • @1789000 Thank you for the heads up! Indeed nothing came up when I searched for a "PSL receiver" but it worked when i searched for FPK receiver. Thanks again.

  • @akelelias be careful though, i went to fit an 8x psop on the rail on the receiver , and it will not fit without having some work by a gunsmith to fit the rail on the receiver...i have no idea if the 4x will fit it...and i ordered the correct "svd mount" on the scope..the ak mount type scopes will not work on this receiver...

  • I purchased the exaxt same kit from centerfire systems. I will gladly pay you to build it for me. Please contact me by email. It is adamlehman14@yahoo.com . If you would rather call me please do it between 11 and 5 west coast time. Email is best though. My # is 1559-360-1342. Thanks.

  • Excellent work Darren. Been wanting to give you a ring and go shoot sometime. Been slammed at the shop. I don't always comment but I watch your videos every chance I get. Great work dude.

  • @Iraqveteran8888

Hey Eric, I've been meaning to stop up at the shop, but until I have something specific to buy, I'll probably keep putting it off. I watch your videos as well.

  • Great video series and very well done for the beginner, anyone with a minimal skill with tools could do the build simply by following your vid.

  • @ginsboy2003

    Sweeeeet!! Thanks!!

  • Sweet videos. :). Question, though: is it ok to use a Tapco G2 Trigger Group in a PSL build?

  • @iKillRagheads

In this receiver a standard G2 trigger group was used.

  • How did the test fire go Sir?

  • @semiautoriflelover

No problems noted, it was hard to get a true test of accuracy without a scope. The scope rail on the Romanian receiver was made wrong and the scope mounts made for PSL's will not slide on. I need to mill some metal off of it so scope mounts will attach.

  • I bought a pair of these and am in the process of building them. Only one thing left to do to the second one. This video has been invaluable.

The receivers required a lot of work. The holes for the trigger and mag had to be widened. For the bolt carrier rails, I had to do more work to the rear than to the front. I'm guessing with the tension from the hammer, it was less tolerant of additional friction from the rails.

It's good to see that our rails look similar.

  • Very cool. Thanks for taking the time to video and explain everything.

  • Did i miss a part.... but nothing mentioned about headspacing ???

  • @gunhappyie

No, it was checked before assembly. I won't say how many kits I've assemble, but in my experience, I've never seen a kit with the original matching bolt and barrel have headspace that was off and this was no different. As far as checking it after you reinstall the barrel, your barrel pin is a zero tolerance (well less than zero for an interference fit) so if everything is assembled correctly, you couldn't change headspace if you wanted to.

  • @ginsboy2003

I want to add that yes I have read on forums where on rare occasions people have had problems, but they tried to press the barrel pin in with the holes misaligned and they actually pushed metal out of the hole. It should be obvious at that point that they need to start over.

  • Great series, thanks!

  • cool series

  • Great job. no way in heck I would be able to do this because you need all the custom tools and skills. The only thing I can do is take grips off a pistol and put together an AR15. This takes major skills.
