ARGHHHHH!! I HATE CINEMA SCOPE.Fucking letterbox format. Whats the deal with that. Two black bars top and bottom? wtf.. I know this vid is exaggerated but WHY do these film makers see the need for them? How anoyyyyying.
Except this is not how 'scope works but how letterboxing works, which is simply shrinking a 'scope image to fit on a square or widescreen TV - Yes some films are too wide for widescreen plasma or LCD TVs even in 2010.
cinemascope invented by TCF in 1953 : first released on The Robe : albeit French inventor Henri chretien was playing with anamorphic lenses in er about 1927 !!

@morrismagic08 It is better because it has more side details and fullscreen without the bars has cropped sides.

Which is why films are also filmed in other wide formats that have little or no black bars like 1:85.1 Widescreen or 1:66.1 Widescreen
The native aspect ratio for VistaVision is not as wide as 16:10 though its made for projecting at 1:66.1 or 1:85.1 which are wider then 16:10

Oh yeah, this is not CinemaScope it is just putting black bars on the set which doesn't count as anamorphic
