This song makes me think of my brother, he passed away 8 years ago. I remember him telling me how much he loved this song. It stays with me now and the words really touch me. I got the Boyz 2 Men Greatest Hits EP on November 9th 2006 (the morning I got news that my mother went to be with the Lord) ..Initially I played 'Mama' cos it eased the pain of loss, then I heard this (it was on the compilation) and immediately made it mt new mantra for mourning because it was sumptuous thru the new QC2 headphones I'd just bought a few days before. I was in FL and Mama was in London UK .. it's one for eternity and yes .. still gives me chills.

It's true that Mariah is struggling here to hit the notes but that's just what the singer's life is about. Your voice is your tool and sometimes it's not working the way you would want it to work but still she gets through the performance sounding amazing. Who cares about few notes that are missing? Singing live isn't just about hitting the notes recorded. How many times have you seen someone saying about a live performance that it's not live because there's no difference to the original one?
she is absolutely great! i love how,besides the interviews and tv shows where she acts funny and silly,she is so serious when it comes to live performance,and really lets her natural instrument do what she can do better,mariah carey is great!
As legendary as this performance is, you cannot deny that Mariah is struggling here and she's pretty smart for changing a few of the notes to avoid from straining too much. Can't blame her cuz since from 1997, her voice began to decline :/ She's still my idol forever despite the changes she has went through. Emancipation of Mimi beats any album after Daydream! :)

I was a Teen when Mariah was in her prime, her voice gave me goosebumps. Her songs where joyous and even inspirational. Her beauty made my head spin.
I know since then she's, different know and went on this downward spiral roller coaster of a life and she gets a lot of criticism because of it, but I still remember this Mariah the most. The Mariah who at this time, was possibly the greatest vocal performer on earth.

It's true that Mariah is struggling here to hit the notes but that's just what the singer's life is about. Your voice is your tool and sometimes it's not working the way you would want it to work but still she gets through the performance sounding amazing. Who cares about few notes that are missing? Singing live isn't just about hitting the notes recorded. How many times have you seen someone saying about a live performance that it's not live because there's no difference to the original one?

As legendary as this performance is, you cannot deny that Mariah is struggling here and she's pretty smart for changing a few of the notes to avoid from straining too much. Can't blame her cuz since from 1997, her voice began to decline :/ She's still my idol forever despite the changes she has went through. Emancipation of Mimi beats any album after Daydream! :)

I was a Teen when Mariah was in her prime, her voice gave me goosebumps. Her songs where joyous and even inspirational. Her beauty made my head spin.
I know since then she's, different know and went on this downward spiral roller coaster of a life and she gets a lot of criticism because of it, but I still remember this Mariah the most. The Mariah who at this time, was possibly the greatest vocal performer on earth.

I'm sorry, but I really have to pick you up on this. Downward spiral? Have you heard her last two albums? Memoirs was an absolute triumph and contains some of my favourite Mariah songs, and the new Christmas album has presicely the sort of other-worldly vocal performances and beautiful musical arrangements you've all been grovelling for. But forget even the happy marriage and recent twins - what gives me joy is knowing she's still, without hyperbole, the most capable singer on Earth..

and i have to pick you up on this. what do you mean you question the downward spiral? are you tone deaf? the first 10 sec of mariah carey singing this song in this video is proof of that. everybody knows shes gone through very hard times in her life, and the r&b crap she got herself into didn't really help. anyone old enough to know mariah when she was at her best aknowledge this. mariah of today is nothing compared to what she used to be. she hasnt matured with dignity...

I think Snafu246 means... her social life.... and how she was in a mental institution for a while... Being famous, from what most actors, comedians (Chappelle), singers... etc... have said, is a lot to take on, you lose your privacy, your life becomes a label. So, for her to have drama in her life is 100% normal, for any human being, it was just televised lol.
That being said, she her voice has always been amazing. And she looks great at her age :P

@gloomyoutlook who are you trying to fool? Anyone who can look past the fanboy/girlism will know that she is NOTHING like she was back in the early to mid 90's. Her gift of singing is but a shadow of her ability from back then. Granted she can still sing better than most of the average people out there, but in the early 90's, NO ONE could be compared to her singing talent.
