The fact he has not only accepted it, but has also forgiven Jesus, makes him the bigger man. So the song isn't really about forgiving Jesus, but more about his feelings of superiority towards him... and indeed everyone else.
He thinks he is better than God, and of course most of his fans believe him, which is the reasons he writes these songs in the first place. The love from his fans is the only love he gets. He needs it and is therefore very lucky God blessed him with such talent ... otherwise heaven knows how miserable he'd be now.

Thee are MANY false religions. That's undeniable. Christ warned that after his death a great apostacy would creep in. Certainly that happened in 320AD with Constantine. Regarding a virgin birth, certainly an intelligent designer who created man could accomplish that. Man has actually taken steps in that direction with envitro fertilization and the like.

I think all have missed the meaning of the song. Why is he dressed up as a priest? Why is he asking for forgiveness for the pain he's caused? He's forgiven Jesus for all the desire when there's nothing he can do with the desire ... he's singing from the perspective of a priest who is having desire. Towards who? I'll leave that open to interpretation ... all, of course, IMHO.

@thebiglebowski2010 Wrong. He's singing from his own perspective. He deeply desires is to be close to someone.. but cannot. It's an illness, that God gave him. The fact he has not only accepted it, but has also forgiven Jesus, makes him the bigger man. So the song isn't really about forgiving Jesus, but more about his feelings of superiority towards him... and indeed everyone else.

He thinks he is better than God, and of course most of his fans believe him, which is the reasons he writes these songs in the first place. The love from his fans is the only love he gets. He needs it and is therefore very lucky God blessed him with such talent ... otherwise heaven knows how miserable he'd be now.

Wow. I don't follow Morrissey's career all that closely, and so have never heard this song until now, but as somebody here wrote, this may be the best song he has ever done. It deals with a person's struggles with religion and God, and love and sex and death. This song seems to sum up the life and work of the man.

Wow, I can see how He is the inspiration to Brand New's writer Jesse Lacey, just that confusion of where God is when you need him. I feel the same way and I hope that he is happy now and God will help him to be still creative. Although I know that a happy man can never create such songs and sings for us like this.
Morrissey has the same age as me he speaks from the bottom of my heart almost anytime. I would ask him to pray for all his fans (including me of course!) to find the bliss.

This is hillarious! Morrissey hasn't been this sarcastic since 1989's "Yes, I Am Blind". It's nice to see that Moz got his mojo back. I was curious about this song from the title alone. Usually, it's Jesus who forgives not the other way around. The priest outfit adds to the hillarity. The middle aged poet still knows how to swing the pen. Bravo Morrissey!
