Actually price does increase the placebo effect so it wouldn't have the same effect (not that I in anyway condone their BS). Even things like packaging, quantity and colour of pills can change the effect too.

Placebo bands are nothing like it!

Power bands are made of softer rubber so they don't slide from your wirst and i'd use it as MP3 holder when i go jogging. And maybe they don't give any power to anyone but maybe my MP3 will play longer.. for 60 bucks it's worth a try.

And the name.. PPOWERRRbalance..

Nicely done. Its an uphill battle getting people to think critically or scientifically if there is no money in it. Its also very difficult to jar people out of consumer mode. Everything in the field of health and healing is geared towards buying placebo products in alternative medicine and ineffective drugs in western medicine. People feel good when they buy something intended to better their health. They'd never guess they alone are in control of their immunity or healing w/o any product.

You're talking about Power Balance not PowerBands. Power Balance bracelets contain a hologram. PowerBands are made by another company and contain magnets.

The mind is a terrible thing to waste - but while big pharma see the placebo effect as something to overcome, and quacks see it as something to exploit, the full power of it probably won't be implemented.

something to overcome? Why? You can solve that problem at testing time by using a control group... and at the time of the implementation, it actually works for you! When a real doctor gives a patient a pill, he is not only giving the patient the tested treatement, he's also giving the patient the placebo effect...

I know, who am I kidding, the placebo effect sucks, but try to make friends with it, cause it's something that we probably won't be able to overcome ever.

exactly, the use of the words "solve" and "problem" are what i'm talking about... it is partially understood, and then all attempts are made to reject its effects in order to derive an effective medication, without the thought of harnessing it as well. Don't get me wrong, i'm not criticising double-blind trials in and of themselves, but why do we leave it up to pseudoscientisis to profit from the effect?
