The way I see it is that Senna and Prost were just as good as each other. Senna, yes, much faster, but Prost was smarter, racking up points quietly and biding his time. Just my opinion.

Senna was screwed by the FIA in 1989 and 1990 for being moved to the dirty side of the track so he retaliated by taking Prost off the road and became champ
Damon Hill was given the championship in 1994 when the FIA banned Schumacher for 2 races for the Silverstone warm up lap when he had over a 20 point lead
so like senna Schumacher doing this did the same thing!

@chouzouris I agree, if Senna was alive, once the Williams improved a bit it they would have been left behind for the most part. I think Schumacher deserved it as-any technical or sporting illegality aside-he drove brilliantly. I also think Hill would have deserved it as he really raised his game (his drive at for example Suzuka 94 was sublime) and stepped up to the role of team leader of a devastated Williams team incredibly well, he sadly never gets acknowledgment for that.
Half of the reason Senna didn't win more than Schumacher is because of Ballestre, another quarter is because he died, and another quarter if because he wasn't behind anyone for most of his career.

Senna could not be fast in races cause he could crash, and has less number of overtakings than Schumi.
Senna spoiled his 65 poles to only 25% wins. Schumi got 36% wins!

I think Schumacher-knowing he had illegal aids and was a better driver than Hill thought that the championship was his by destiny, especially after his main rival Senna was killed and he gained a big lead early on. @chouzouris I agree, if Senna was alive, once the Williams improved a bit it they would have been left behind for the most part. I think Schumacher deserved it as-any technical or sporting illegality aside-he drove brilliantly. I also think Hill would have deserved it as he really raised his game (his drive at for example Suzuka 94 was sublime) and stepped up to the role of team leader of a devastated Williams team incredibly well, he sadly never gets acknowledgment for that.

@jkamwal2 I mean in terms of caliber and consistent driver performance. I refer more to a general climate of driver caliber (and their chances of winning races). Raikkonen for example was in a dog of a car in 06, as was Schumi in 05, but they still could have won the title with the right kit). Like next season we'll have what 6 champions on the grid, but how many are automatically not going to win as they will be in weaker cars. Today its too car-determined is my point.

Actually it is more stupid of Damon Hill. He clearly saw Schumacher hitting the wall and damaging his car. Just waiting a frew corners behind him and overtake him somewhere more safe would have gotten him the championship.

Looking at the 93 season, Michael had the "works" engine which had more power than what was in Senna's McLaren and yet Senna still managed to finish 2nd in the championship to Prost who was in the more dominant Williams. It is difficult to think of a fairer comparison for these two drivers given the circumstances.

I guess, was this the last race in 2004 when Schumacher hit Damon Hill on purpose, so they both gone out. Schumi then won the championship due to this accident. Funny thing that Damon continued to run and Schumi looked devastated, but 1 lap later Damon retired. Poor guy, this was his victory

A great driver shows it in overtaking, and Schumacher has done some of the most incredible overtakings in history.
He was really fast in races, that´s why he overtook so much. Senna, for ex was not so fast in races,with only 11% of fastest lap, while Schumi has 30%, Fangio 45%, Clark 38%, Prost 20%...
Senna could not be fast in races cause he could crash, and has less number of overtakings than Schumi.
Senna spoiled his 65 poles to only 25% wins. Schumi got 36% wins!

Senna had seasons for example, stuck in a Mclaren with mansell in a car going a second a lap faster than him. Not to mention his career was cut short. Senna will be known as the best because of his charisma and love for the sport, not his wins. It was how he raced, not how he won. The McLaren was designed and engineered to be the fastest production car on a CIRCUIT. Not only did they achieve this, but it also became the fastest in straight-line just by sheer coincidence and held that title for close to 12 years. The Veyron had it for what, 1 year? 6 months? Nothing tops the McLaren and Senna was a huge factor in engineering.
