See, videos like this are soooo helpful! You don't need lessons to do ballet ect, you can learn if you just believe that anything is possible. I do gymnastics from home! I have a trampoline I can practice from! You don't need lessons just practice on one thing and you will get there in the end, practice makes perfect! =)

@MariusWM More like girls hips get wider during puberty so the baby can pass through at the end of pregnancy. Guys hips never get wider. So maybe it's the the pelvic bone angling outwards(to widen the hips) that gives an easier position for the splits to happen.
Calisthenics really helps! They push you. But in a good way and not literally push....... By push I meant help you until you get it ! By push I meant help and encourage !!!!

yeah, to be honest i started activly working out since a few months ago, i've done static trapeze fo4 7 years and before i couldn't touch my toes all that time! now that i make sure i work out at home ( i never used to) i can touch my toes and now i'm 18. But when someone first told me that i could learn how to stretch at my age i was like " whaa! i didn't know that was true at all!". i guess its abit like learning a language. its easier as a child but certainly possible as an adult :)
the only thing is never bounce when stretching unless you have a professional with you because it increase your chance of injury if you bounce farther than your body is ready to

great tutorial! one thing i noticed though is when your in split you neither point nor flex your foot, but it is important to choose one because you want it to be a controled movement. just a tip :)

she's right about getting flexible at any age but it's easier when you're younger. And stetching more often is better. If you have the time to stretch every day you should.
@Sanchara i agree, although I can't stretch more than 5 times a week, everyone is different when it comes to flexibility. Like I'm 21 and have been stretching since April, and I STILL don't have my splits, it is very frustrating. I stercthed for a half hour too.

...I could reach my toes again! (Well, at least for me that was a big progress). I got really motivated then and kept stretching. It didn't hurt that much because I never pushed myself too much. And now after a about a month I can touch my shin with my forehead. That seemed so impossible for me. I also started stretching for the splits and while at first I didn't think I'll ever reach the floor I get more positive everytime now because it slowly is getting better and better

About one month ago I just needed to sit on the floor properly with stretched out legs and my muscles hurt.So basically I already failed completely by doing nothing at all. Then I decided to start stretching regularly. I had no goal or anything because I knew that I am far from flexible and probably will always be. But I just wanted to try. At first it was uncomfortable due to the fact that I felt like a 99 year old. I took it really slowly and just after a few days I could see a big progess....

@gokharol Yes it took me a month and an half. :D. However, two months later, I injured myself and stopped during one month. Then, I learned it again. XD

@victor82784 When you START the stretch, go as far as possible WITHOUT FEELING ANY PAIN. After 20 seconds, you'll feel that your muscles are more relax. Then, you can go farther and feel some pain. However, don't forget do do some warm up( 5 minutes of jogging) to avoid injuries, pain(the following day ) and to progress faster in your split.
Stretching is one of the most important aspects of martial arts. It increases the blood flow though the body. Also if very flexible, it allows less effort to move, allowing more effort for technique.
She's like my inspiration right now, to know that she could only do her splits when she was 18 is very encouraging for me since I'm only 17. At least I know I still have time, and I'm not 100% stiff so I guess that's a good sign. Great tips by the way! ;-)
@ mrmrgm10 yes that's very normal to be sore it will probably hurt to bend down and sit down also I find the best time to stretch is when your sore it will take away the soreness and you're range of motion will dramaticlly increase because your muscles are very pulled out and stretching them will be easy
hi...I'm 16 years old and i started stretching to get my splits for about a week.I was doing well, i was 2 inches far from the ground but when i was stetching and trying to do the splits i was sore so i stopped stretching.Please let me know if that pain was ok and what can i do to become more flexible and get my splits.
This video helps. I can't get to the ground yet but I will try some of those stretches out. I usually stretch after I run everyday and I am seeing some progress.
Advice:males-dont rush tu much on splits because u may be injured so badly cause Females-can do this 2-3x easier then males cause the part at the ass-its much increased then males,at the males the part under at the neck is increased much beter then females,an example females can do splits 2x easier ,males can do push-ups 2x easier :D well good luck,by the way males u have to train each day not 3 time on week :D !
Hi all, this is a new 5 minute video from a latin dancer Viktoriya - she explains how she does her stretching and splits. When she was 18 years old she couldn't even touch her toes - then she started to stretch and made amazing improvemnt as you can see - so you don't have to start as a kid to be able to do splits later in your life. @gokharol Yes it took me a month and an half. :D. However, two months later, I injured myself and stopped during one month. Then, I learned it again. XD

@victor82784 When you START the stretch, go as far as possible WITHOUT FEELING ANY PAIN. After 20 seconds, you'll feel that your muscles are more relax. Then, you can go farther and feel some pain. However, don't forget do do some warm up( 5 minutes of jogging) to avoid injuries, pain(the following day ) and to progress faster in your split.

Stretching is one of the most important aspects of martial arts. It increases the blood flow though the body. Also if very flexible, it allows less effort to move, allowing more effort for technique.

She's like my inspiration right now, to know that she could only do her splits when she was 18 is very encouraging for me since I'm only 17. At least I know I still have time, and I'm not 100% stiff so I guess that's a good sign. Great tips by the way! ;-)

@ mrmrgm10 yes that's very normal to be sore it will probably hurt to bend down and sit down also I find the best time to stretch is when your sore it will take away the soreness and you're range of motion will dramaticlly increase because your muscles are very pulled out and stretching them will be easy

hi...I'm 16 years old and i started stretching to get my splits for about a week.I was doing well, i was 2 inches far from the ground but when i was stetching and trying to do the splits i was sore so i stopped stretching.Please let me know if that pain was ok and what can i do to become more flexible and get my splits.

This video helps. I can't get to the ground yet but I will try some of those stretches out. I usually stretch after I run everyday and I am seeing some progress.

Advice:males-dont rush tu much on splits because u may be injured so badly cause Females-can do this 2-3x easier then males cause the part at the ass-its much increased then males,at the males the part under at the neck is increased much beter then females,an example females can do splits 2x easier ,males can do push-ups 2x easier :D well good luck,by the way males u have to train each day not 3 time on week :D !

Hi all, this is a new 5 minute video from a latin dancer Viktoriya - she explains how she does her stretching and splits. When she was 18 years old she couldn't even touch her toes - then she started to stretch and made amazing improvemnt as you can see - so you don't have to start as a kid to be able to do splits later in your life. Also she didn't stretch every day - 3x a week is all it took. Hope this helps and good luck ;o) Inga
