This song is so sublime that it makes me (who has no experience with computer graphics or producing music videos) want to produce my own video for this song. It would probably cost a few million to make and a bunch of CGI to perfect it to match the image in my head, but even then it still wouldn't surpass my vivid imagination yet it would still satisfy me. Sigh, but this serene sound is enough to keep me content.
No Offense but the footage in this video doesn't go with the darkness of the song..dont get me wrong, you did a great job making the video.but trent reznor is getting at something very dark in this song and exposing natures beauty doesn't really play well with the track, just saying
I always defined the "Great Below" as a man staring off the highest peak of the universe, around the burning praries and forests, where the man comtemplates the jump into the deep waters of which there will be no surfacing...
This video straight up brought tears to my eyes. This was brilliant work. It reminded me how fragile life really is and how that has a certain type of beauty to it. (It also reminded me that I need to go listen to the Fragile CD again) If Trent saw this I'm sure he'd say the same thing. Very well done. I applaud you.
Going to do shrooms for the first time. Listening to this song if i get too worked up. The song along with the stunning footage of nature should be able to send me into a state of zen. =P
great use of thematic imagery -- it seems the subject of each shot relates to the album art of a different generation of nin art, from tds-like moths, ants, bees, and dead rats to more ghost like landscapes
the part with the tea candles, buddha & dorje, that fades into the sea is a beautiful segment -- stunning blend.
really dug the incense... but not the cigarettes -- was sorta like clipping the wings to me.
Amazing video. This has always been one of my favorite songs and your video did an amazing job at capturing it. Thank you so much for putting so much emotion and thought into your production. Wonderful work
You did a great job, but actually witnessing a post here of someone who decided to comment positively on the art of the video, yet negatively of the musical work robs me of my faith in humanity. If you feel that's too extreme, then please listen to the song again and I'm sure you will be more sympathetic toward my loathing of simple minded people who consistently though falsely have the idea they should somehow contribute opinions toward art and music.
Some really amazing shots you've got in here. Nice one. My criticisms, (if I may be so bold) would be that overall the whole thing is a little fast. Both in terms of clip speed and amount of shots. Also, I don't think you need to cover so much ground. The beauty of the Fragile videos was having the time to take in the imagery. Plus, I don't think you need to be so literal, (closing eye, religious imagery for "faith"). Pick a single theme and colour and slow it all down and it'd look great.
Where can find the video was apears on And all that colud have been...for this song, is the video, is the artwork, a original video for this song. hey thats so Wonderfull.
Man...this really is good. You need to get yourself onto the right people in the music industry. That's a million times better than most of the rubbish that artists put out nowadays.
Very impressive. If there'd be any constructive criticism I could offer I would have to say I agree with ronekyakone completely. Regardless, this is easily the best music video I've seen for "The Great Below" and I've seen no shortage of them. Excellent work, keep it coming.
you did a great job with the photography! i do feel like theres something missing but im sure you will find it for this or your next work. you should really get rid of all the apologizing you have in your video description section, theres no need for it! you made an awesome video!
Excellent. I remember listening to this song almost 3 years ago and thinking the part approximately from 2:09/2:10 to 2:53 was possibly the saddest music I had ever heard, and that view of mine hasn't changed since.
While I'll never be able to completely seperate the beautiful images created by Bill Viola for the live version of this song during the Fragility tour (see the And All The Could Have Been DVD), you did a fabulous job with this video. You really captured the feeling of this song but also in a way that makes it your own. I love the scene with the candles. I can't wait to see your "finished" version of this. I will definitely be subscribing.
you are a bloody visual genius. You have grasped the genius of Reznor with this as well. Do more!! lol
