a little shoddy on description. doesn't address the flare butterfly on the ball only says to mark the first line. any knowledgeable pro shop operator knows the line on the inside on top moves to the outside on the bottom of the ball. Using the ball spinner to find the PAP is the most accurate way if done properly. Best way is to acquire a PAP is on a non-flaring bowling ball ie. Plastic Ball.
by the way, all you have to do to find the PAP is draw a line perpendicular to the first oil ring, then draw another line perpendicular to the first oil ring, and wherever those two lines intersect is the PAP. That ball spinner thing is dumb. Just look at the brunsnick video on PAP...WAY SIMPLER
oh they would NEVER drill a ball without finding someone's positive axis point. Except that's all they do at the true amatuer tournament out in las vegas because they have so many balls to drill, they don't have the time to work with each bowler individual. Each entrant gets a free ebonite ball at the tournament, but the drilling process is very unpersonalized
to get the oil line you have to bowl it down a lane.... But if i just bought a brand new ball it doesnt have any holes drilled yet! Im confused. Can somebody help? Are you meant to drill the holes and then find your PAP just for the sake of knowing where it is??? Will you have the same PAP for every/most balls?
ah k. Well i just bought a complete nv, and im not the most skilled bowler around. I was thinking because i hav bought a new ball, my own shoes etc, that i would change my whole bowling style. Its hard to explain. I hav alot of bad habits, and a fairly basic 4step approach, i was thinkin a 'fresh' start and try be my best.. i really want to take my bowling serious now. What im most scared of is drilling the ball wrong, or in a way that keeps my old boring low rev style and nothing really changes
in other words... ive seen pro bowlers that bowl an agressive ball that kicks in hard at the end and destroys the pins. It looks amazing and effective... i wouldnt mind to be able to do that :P But i know theres a difference between LOOKING like u know how to bowl, and actually being a good bowler. Btw, i bowl in a league but also work as a mechanic at the alley so i basically live there... hence why i love the sport so much and want to bowl my very BEST one day! :)
I think he needs one more ring on his fingers.....

so you use your plastic spare ball to find the PAP and then apply that measurement to the new ball your're drilling?

There is a high differential PAP and a low differential PAP. You should locate your positive axis point on an old ball.
