  • I wish this would go on forever!

  • Wow, this beautiful Berlin tune evokes great sadness..yet Bea Arthur's comfortable delivery over a quiet piano is comforting....

  • love this show! legends in their own right!

  • Too bad no album of Bea Arthur singing on this show was released, I'd totally buy it. I prefer Bea's version of this song opposed to the others.

  • This song is beautiful.

  • Tears every time.

  • Like this if you wish Bea would have released this song

  • Doesn't matter how many times I watch this, seeing Dorothy/Bea sing this always gives me chills. She's so beautiful.

As Blanche said, "Dorothy, when you sing, you light up the room, you do. You positively glow, you're beautiful."

  • I#ve got tears of joy in my eyes because of Bea Artuhrs interpretation of this song, the best version i've heard! Great song with emotional lyircs!

  • my greatest experiance was meeting you Bea in 1999

  • This made me cry. I ADORE you, Bea!!!!!! You are so very, very missed. R.I.P. dear lady!! :) <3

  • Beautiful song, sung from a beautiful soul.

  • Her smile at the end is so precious. I could listen to this all day.

  • I LOVE this song and how Bea Arthur sings it. Its such a lovely song

  • What a fantastic actress. Definitely an American legend.

  • Bea really was one of the great songstresses of the last 100 years. I wish they had used her talents more often on the Golden Girls.

Having said that, I'm very glad for what the times they did have her sing, and this is an amazing video. Thanks for posting it!!

  • Check out the video "WAYLAND FLOWERS AND MADAME IN MANHATTAN PART 1"

    .....funny.

  • No one can even compare to Bea Arthur, she is such a gem and the way she sings this song is so beautiful I'm brought to tears every time I see this! We love and miss you so much Bea <3

  • Loved it, loved her, loved them...

  • Bea arthur, was a kind, wonderful woman. rest in peace, sweet lady

  • 1:02 is the EPIC LAUGH OUT LOUD MOMENT - GO BEA !!!!

  • Bea's rendition is nothing short of superb. An amazing turn of acting is the opening few seconds when she "pretends" to forget some of the lyrics; we know the real story from her unparalleled diction. Classy song, classy singer.

  • This makes me tear up everytime...RIP Bea Arthur aka Dorothy I'll always love you!

  • If they ever make a Television Hall of fame Bea Arthur should be amongst the very first inductees. Along with Betty White.

  • My gf left me after dealing with my depression for the past couple of months. I'm sad but then think I guess I see now that when it comes down to it she would not be there for me in the long run so I guess it's best, even with it hurting so much now. We were together for almost 3 years..

  • One of my all time favorite GG moments. Many, many people have sung this song over the years, but no one ever quite captured the essence and emotion of the song the way Bea Arthur did in this wonderful clip. We love and miss you Bea, and thank you for being a friend!

  • I've watched Judy Garland sing this (who is one of my favorite singers), and I have to admit that Bea does this one better. Her phrasing and facial expression combine to produce an absolutely heart-aching performance. I can hardly hum this song without choking up after hearing Bea's version. Thank you sweet Bea for introducing me to this song, and also thank you Irving Berlin for writing a song that is so musically perfect.

  • I miss Bea Arthur.

  • one of the most underrated singers ever -btw she was 70 when she sang this-lets all stand up and give the lady an ovation-she deserves it:-)

  • I first got into the Golden Girls a few years ago in high school, waiting for the Nanny or Unsolved Mysteries to come on Lifetime network... fell in love with the show because of its comforting appeal. Now this song i'm in love with, and i cant listen to it by anyone else because they dont sing it the way Bea does. RIP love

  • Is there a CD or album with Bea Arthur singing these types of songs ?

she was great singer, I've heard many versions but this one is perfect

  • @capatga bea arthur -just between friends or bea arthur on broadway -good luck if you can get one of those cd's

  • @MsOsgood9 Thanks, I will be looking, If I find something , I will post

  • @capatga bea arthur-june anderson -bernstein-type that in here on youtube+you will get bea at the MET opera outsinging an opera singer-the song is "wonderful town"-gl my fellow bea fan:-)

  • one of my fav GG scenes of all time~

  • This is the best recording of this song that I have ever heard. It's a shame she never put out an album with this song on it. I would love to have this to listen to. RIP you are a most splendid actress and singer....we miss you still.

  • She would have been a great jazz singer

  • @capatga She was a jazz singer. In the the 1940s and 1950s she was a nightclub jazz singer.

  • ONE ONE THE BEST RENDITIONS EVER

  • This song makes me weepy :(

  • I'm watching this episode now on The Hallmark Channel.

I've always loved hearing Bea sing this! :D

  • Someone once said that when we lose celebrities we sincerely admire and identify with, they are not easily replaced; we don't get them back. I guess that is the way I feel about Bea Arthur. In my lifetime she will not be replaced.

  • Not to mock the situation or the character Bea Aurthur played, rest her soul, I bet Dorothy wishes all she had of Stan was a photograph!

  • I miss you so much bea ... Brings tears to my eyes

  • bea--utiful

  • No matter how long and how many times I watch this, the magic is always still there and never disappear..It's truly sad we don't have her with us anymore.

  • I love this song

  • God Bless her.

  • I was sad this wasn't on iTunes, but I guess the Frank Sinatra version will do. :/

  • Harry Connick Jr did this song live twice in the late 80s on VH1 (back when they cared about music) and in one of those performances, he hit the last "what" on an incredibly low note. I tried for years to find a copy online, but never found it -- was still googling it again when I found this page.

  • I adore this woman...!

  • tone -sorry

  • 3 people are done deaf

  • I HATE that she's not with us. Hope to see her in the next life. :)

  • who can only vote that gorgeous song down. trolls.

  • classsyyyy:)

  • so much soul and inspiration. love this song reminds me of kelly clarkson up to the mountain.

  • Rest in peace wonderful Bea :)

  • Class. It's missing these days.

  • Would kill for a whole album of Bea and heartbreak songs with saloon arrangements.

  • Just simply--thank you Bea:-)

  • I wish Bea would have recorded this. She is my fav version of this beautiful classic. RIp Bea

  • my son wishes bea was his gramma

  • @Dravenswraith shoot i wish SHE was MY grandma..lol..

  • Knowing her voice and knowing this song I had to click on the link when I saw the title of the video. She really should release this as a single. She'd make a fantastic Jazz singer.

  • This song is beautiful on its own but to be truly great, it must be sung by someone who has known loss and heartbreak. When that person allows themself to become lost in the lyric and allow that heartbreak to flow through, this song becomes something much, much more. Ms. Arthur is positively sublime in this piece. Her voice has so much character and depth, and she FEELS those lyrics. Truly a thing of beauty, as was Ms. Arthur herself. RIP, lovely lady. We shall not look upon your like again.

  • @erinker74 I, for one, can relate to this song with plenty of heart break..

  • @erinker74 Well put my friend you are great with words. I'm a writer and couldn't have said it any better myself. Oh I forgot Rest In Peace Bea.

  • one of my all-time favorite GG's moment. but frankly - is this what anyone else thought the Rusty Anchor would be like? Seems like a pretty sensitive crowd of men to be wooed by an aging songstress. but hey, that's Dorothy.

  • Lots of whiskey made them fall for Dorothy.

  • @willcwhite Never underestimate the allure of a woman with a beautiful voice. That Siren legend didn't materialize from nothing.:-) I was a young boy the first time I ever heard this clip, and it completely enchanted me . If there is anyone that shouldn't have been taken by the song, it is a vain young man. But it got me. I guess it got them, too.

  • She is incredible

  • I LOVE Bea! She will be in our hearts for ever <3

  • what an actress wow what a women

  • just watched this episode last night. GG is one of the best shows ever. i watch it all the time!

  • 1:02 was just an awesome moment in GG history. Dorothy was always described as this bookish, introverted character without the flair of a Blanche, or even her own mother. But right there, you could see exactly what made Blanche say to her later "When you're singing, you're beautiful."

This is, and always will be, my absolute favorite recording of this song. I fell in love with it the moment I saw this episode years ago.

R.I.P. Bea Arthur. Thanks for leaving gems like this behind for us.

  • Not only is this beautiful to hear Bea sing, but 1:02 makes me laugh

  • I saw and heard this song last night. Was so touched - brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Bea Arthur - a real talent!

  • R.I.P bea artheur you will be greatly missed my meny people ='(

  • @loverlicker I totally agree with you she was a charming woman and I love to listen to her sing... She good as Dorothy and as Maude those roles she played very well.. and that is what mad up Bea Arthur and she is greatly missed

  • No one EVER performed this song as touchingly, and as movingly as Bea Arthur.

  • I saw this episode at a time when I was about to have to say a final goodbye to a friend knowing I'd never get to see him again. Bea's performance of this song was perhaps the most fitting thing for me to see during that painful time. It was the hardest goodbye I've ever had to say, and not a day has gone by that I haven't missed him, haven't wondered what I'm going to do to stop grieving.

  • by far, for me, the most touching, heartfelt, and beautiful rendition of this song i've EVER heard...makes me realize just how much we lost when she passed....miss you Ms.Arthur...what'll i do......

  • as much as i try not to, this song always makes me cry... never fails

  • As a child, I first heard this song on The Great Gatsby lp that my folks played frequently on our record player. Later on, while in high school, I fell hopelessly in love with a girl I had begun dating. She was 16 and I 17 and the logical side of me knew it would never last, after all...it was just young love. I would listen to this song, late at night, in solitude and know the relationship was going to run it's course...and it did. Now, 27 years later, this song and her memory still haunts me.

  • Even now, I still choke up watching this~ Love you Bea. . .

  • One of my favorite episodes. I love Dorothy :)

  • lovely

  • whoever DISLIKED Bea's beautiful song must really hate the world. It's so beautiful, and sad...i cried the first time i watched this again, after she passed away........

  • i miss you bea

  • heartfelt and sincere! Best of all versions I've heard!! thanks for posting!

  • Beautiful song.......!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol look at old horny blanche all jealous in the background LMAO

  • Rest in peace, sweetheart.

  • I actually sang this song during kareoke to my then boyfriend who in turn asked me to marry him on the spot and is now my sweet husband.

  • @goddessvenom sweeeeettt!!!!

  • The Lady was a champ!

  • The arrangement is great, the sentiment is real. My favorite version of this.

  • Beautiful...and sad...what irony to hear those words coming from her and now she is the one who is gone.

  • That was so beautiful!

  • WATCHING THIS RATE MEOW...ITS just so great. i love this by her.

  • I absolutely adore this episode for THIS reason. Bea did an amazing job...rip Dorothy :(

  • Love miss Bea. And miss her.

    Sang it girl!

  • can someone post a vid of blanche singing i wanna be loved by you?

  • Simply divine.

  • Thanks for the beautiful rendition Bea RIP

  • 3 people don't dream.

  • i want to learn how to play this exactly how that guy does it in the episode, anyone know of any sheet music?

  • @Never1924 Look for it on fliiby dot com. Beautiful song isn't it?

  • @jeanfou1 I can't seem to find it, if you have any luck would you mind sending me a link?

  • It does actually make me cry.. lol this is some a wonderful rendition of this song. Sinatra is great, but this seems a bit more heartfelt than that.

  • I love this!

  • makes me cry...

  • This actually introduced me to Irving Berlin.

  • Love this song, but even more so with Bea Arthur singing it. Miss her and the rest of the Golden Girls. Betty White is still going!

  • AWESOME!! I NEVER thought I would find Bea Arthur singing this song. NICE!!

  • forever missed but not forgotten rip bea

  • can somebody please tell me the name of this golden girls episode

  • @champolaglow

journey to the center of attention

  • @champolaglow it's called "Journey to the Center of Attention."

  • This is absolutely spectacular.

  • When she began singing, it sent chills down my spine!

  • one this that makes me very depressed is the fact that bea arthur will never know just how much i love her

  • She was awesome, and nobody could have pulled off the roll of Dorothy like she did! I regret not seeing her one-woman show when I had the chance. God bless her and rest her soul, along with the others.

  • this is great

  • I love this song, and I love Bea's version of it the best. I wish she'd done the entire song somewhere.

  • goodnight pussycat...

  • This is the best version of this song available. Bea Arthur's voice is amazing and what a great song to match it.

  • Tears, no words, just Tears

  • shes an amazing singer

  • THE BEST!

  • miss her. there will never be another one like her.

  • we miss you bea

  • this song gives me goose bumps every time I hear bea singing it . R.I.P Bea and Estelle <3

  • It reminds me of this guy i really like.but i dont think he feels the same.i love this song.

  • one of my favorite episodes

  • I love listening to Bea sing this (:

    It's so pretty.

  • This song haunts me... When my mum died i had dreams of her and it hurt me so much so the words

"What'll i do with only dreams of you that won't come true? What'll i do?"

  • What'll I do without Bea Arthur?

  • What'll I do without Bea Arthur?

  • Geez!!!! this tune brings me to tears every single time....and Bea's voice is just makes it all that more wonderful.

  • this ep was aired on the day i was born :D

  • This may very well be my favorite moment in the entire Golden Girls series.

  • my moms favorite golden girl and mine. miss you soooo much mom. will always remember holding your hand before you left us singing this together. cant wait to see you again. love you

  • One of the greats. "Very nice?" Didn't the pianist see Fiddler on the Roof? Ha ha ha. RIP, Bea. you were wonderful.

  • She was great! Rest in peace Bea

  • They don't make Dolls like her anymore.

  • Rest in peace, sweetheart.

  • true class

  • Love the end when she brings it up a notch. Love you for all the talent you have given us, Bea. Your loved and will be in our hearts for 1000s of years.

  • Sing it Dorothy!

  • This and when the girls sang Mr. Sandman are some of my favorite moments from GG. She will always live on in my mind as a treasure. There's a reason why they still show GG on TV, this is one of those reasons.

  • @JBworld29 Ditto

  • Also, at the very end of the episode, there is an incredibly poignant moment between blanche and dorothy. They are in the bathroom and blanche tells dorothy:

"Dorothy, you're beautiful. I'm serious, when you sing, you light up a room... you're just beautiful Dorothy!!!"

    Such a great great moment.

  • I will never forget this moment! It's so cool to come to youtube and realize that so many other people were just as touched by this incredible little minute and a half.

  • Wow! She's great!

  • I love it when she realizes everyone is watching and then sings louder. What a wonderful performer! Dorothy was my favorite Golden Girl. RIP Bea. We love you!

  • IMHO...perhaps the best minute and 38 seconds of the Golden Girls, and I say that as someone who has seen every episode countless times. Thank you Bea Arthur for your contributions to American TV, and rest in peace, you wonderful lady!

  • I love this song...always makes me cry...been there SO many times.

  • love( bea)dorothy love this song listen to my video response and tell me how u like folks............

  • probably my favorint version of this song

  • It is mine too. I wish she would have had a record of her music. Her voice was actually quite beautiful and I love this song and her!!!

  • Goddess.

  • I don't care if it's supposed to be kind of funny. I don't care if the context of the episode makes this less serious. Bea's version of this song makes me cry. After seeing it yesterday, I can't stop thinking about it.

  • It's perfect :-)
