For real? Im pretty sure you are safe, the ip on you ps3 is one being assigned from your router and it is not your actual public ip address. For example my ps3's ip is 192.168.1.66.

@xXxxxxXx584 I rarely buy a game on launch date & I normally don't pay more than $40 for PS3/360/Wii games. The trick is to wait a couple months for the prices to drop. I did buy GOWIII for $52 -$10 for buying GOW Collection + a free $10 voucher so it was like buying it for $32 new. I don't personally need to play most games the minute they come out. I have tons of other games to play while I wait. Some places also offer buy 2 get 1 free offers on most games. Just have to look around for deals!
@videogameobsession I dont know how you find them that cheap, but when PS3 games first come out, they are $59.99. the only ones that are less are usually games based on Movies (which usually arent worth 20 bucks). But you have to admit, PS3 has better graphics in general.
@MrFoxyShazam The only place I see prices like that is brick & motor stores (Wal-Mart, Target, etc..) Check Froogle for better prices on new games and keep an eye on cheapassgamer()com. They will keep you posted on deals. Toys R Us just ran a buy 2get1free deal on PS3 games. Even at $60 each you will end up getting them for $40 ea after the deal. Like I said though, if you can wait a few months you will save a ton of money. We are in a recession and the game companies should be kinder to us!
@xXxxxxXx584 Unfortunately most games aren't worth $69.99. There are only a few that come to mind and they weren't even that pricey. I picked up Uncharted 2 for $42 on Amazon around Xmas time and wouldn't feel bad if I had paid $70 for it. It has a lot of content and is fun to play. Same with GOWIII, Mass Effect 2, and Bioshock 2. All worth their price tags.

Kojima has said over and over again it won't be out and to ignore all rumors. That doesn't mean they might make a modified version for it like they did with the Xbox. I imagine that it will not look as good as it was built around the PS3's cell processors and would be a port.

Before now, PS3's could have a second operating system installed on them Such as Linux, Mac OS, etc. but this update will eliminate that function from now on. If you just play the Playstation games and nothing else you don't have to worry, but if you use the Playstation for other things like having it as a media center or a game emulator. Sony says the update's for "security reasons".

I believe they removed the ability to install "other os" for the original systems with the new update. Word is that the PS3 network was hacked by a hacker named "geohot" and in order to protect the network they removed that feature from all PS3 systems.
Check to see if you have the ability to install "other os" if you have one of the original systems.
one of the things they changed is that the new update affects "other OS" installed in ur PS3 or if u want to install linux or something it wont support it

I would hate to see them lose because of greed. On top of that I have heard rumors of XBL dropping fees.. can you imagine if that happens after Sony starts charging? There was an interview with the Head of the PSN and he said the only reason they will start to charge for online (if they do) will be because the network is so expensive to run. but he said they will continue to make as much of the content as possible to remain free. it has nothing to do with greed.

I personally know of some people who decided on the PS3 after hearing they wouldn't have to pay a monthly fee for online access. If they remove that, they remove a bullet point on their incentives..
But i dont doubt that the PSN can be pretty expensive to run. and sadly, business men (outside of PlayStation) dont really care what we get free or not. so eventually we might have to pay. but i also am positive Sony will do what they can to keep it free, or atleast cheaper than xbox.

@n8vesoul so is mine. it took 10 minutes to get to 5 percent. I have 18mbps internet using a LAN cable so its not my internet and idk what the hell is going on. Maybe its like the xbox servers for the mw2 map pack, they are overloaded.

is "install other OS" still available? They better not have gotten rid of that since I plan on using it when the new hdd shows up! I really wish they would add something worthwhile like Voice recorded or video messages to friends (like the 360 does) Or an updated web browser than can detect the higher res video choices in YouTube instead of playing everything at a barely watchable 360p. It looks terrible on HDTVs :(

3.21 disables the install OtherOS feature for older ps3s. It's a pre emptive strike against hackers.
