It just doesn't seem that travellers and gypsies have much choice in the direction of their lives...the husbands are laborers and the women are houswives....whereas an educated person has a world of opportunities
@ooonurse33 you mean educated people have a mountain of debt? debt or no debt....I am so very glad that my parents insisted that I have a proper education which resulted in me having a career that I love
For some reason this episode reminds me of the "Real Housewives of NJ". The machismo of the men and the decorating skills of the women ( and the role they play in the family) seems so similar w/ the NJ show.
I like this man Paddy! He has a strong sense of self respect for himself and his family. That is a lot more than some young people today have. The traveller's don't mind working hard for what they have.
I can't even fathom why anybody would give up that kind of independence to basically become a slave to a man and a culture that she wasn't previously bound to.
@qazzaqwert12 okay, so you got proof that 100% of gypsies steal? that all are bad people? and you don't that that made those who steal do it to feed their family and put food on the table? give the gypsies some slack, they've been followed and hated for hundreds of years. It can't be easy being a gypsie, now is it? the way you look at people is the way people look at you, remember that.
@funsizeme100 is not what people thinks, imagine that you live in a caravan, you wouldn't pay a rent, taxes...so thats why. Is not because they do illegal things they have normal jobs. In fact most of them don't want to be identified by the camara
@mountsinai5759 It said at the beginning of the episode that he runs the caravan park for the council. The wouldnt have to pay rent as that would be part of the job.
Looking after a man and cleaning a caravan is not a full time job. The only reason these women can't work at least part-time is bigotry. I'm a full time mum/housewife because my kids are still very small, but there's no way I'm not my husband's equal.
wow. i can appreciate the men who do believe in taking care of their wives and family. men in the states are lazy and dont mind the women taking care of the family and working.

@lilxbwnsuga I completely agree with you! I live in the Balkans and its the same here. Females can work and some do but most choose to stay home and raise the children and take care of the house while the men take car of the yard, pay the bills and work to support their family. I much prefer the way of life here or America! (I have lived there too!). Men here are willing to work and support their family and provide the Luxuries.

Can you imagine the online dating ad... "Hi, I'm a 22 year independant woman, happily earning my living as a full-time receptionist. I seek a caravan living man to dominate over me and provide money. In return I will be your house-bound slave; your domesticated piece of property." What kind of horrific brainwashing must this girl have gone through to think this is a better option???
@suracs Iafter watching a couple of theses shows i think its because the omen dont want to be ostracized and shunned and they feel like its all they can do.
@ninners93 You're probably right. It's almost like a cult that they're afraid of leaving or don't even consider leaving because they can't imagine losing their whole extended family and venturing out into the unknown.
i think the men are trapped in the confines of this society just as much as the women are. sure, their condition is better in some ways because they are allowed to party as much as they want, but they still have to live up to a very lofty ideal of manliness in order to have any respectability in the community.
Are you sure that is the gypsy? NOW LET'S not a word I have to au their language is one or a gypsy song. because otherwise there is always at every gypsy wedding gypsy songs or you hear them speak their language. You can hear the other gypsy weddings and their language and songs and so I think those are not gypsies
I agree with @meitagh, I'm French-Canadian and discussing money, like asking someone's wage, isn't considered polite. Also, I'm 25, but a generation or two back it was quite normal to be married young, even at the age of 17 in French-Canadian culture. The more I watch this show the more similarities I see with French-Canadian culture a generation back.
this just goes to show what conditioning can do...the men of this culture have scocially engineered their women and got just what they wanted... a slave lol one who doesnt know its imprisoned clueless hahaha
I love Violet-Ann's logic: When she tells her boss that she is a Gypsy then they will be able to trust Gypsies. But Violet-Ann, you just admitted lying to your boss for 10 years! Dummy.
@SarahsE46M3 5 years. And my logic, if you think of it this way.... If you're gay and you're too scared to tell your parents... and you say you're dating someone of the opposite sex... you're lying to your parents (like Violet-ann not telling her boss), but that doesn't stop them loving you. But if you're from a uber strict religious background you'd most likely be ostracized from the family and not given a chance... Which is why she didnt tell her boss because being a gypsy was frowned upon.
gypsies are "secretive" about money? well yeah. for one thing, it is VERY rude to discuss money with anyone (especially strangers) but your close family. can anyone honestly say they discuss money with anyone who asks them?
Keeping their lips tights about money is just good manners!
@crankinup120 For them and for you maybe good manners. It all depends on the culture. Patriarchal cultures usually don't discuss money, because the men are too 'proud' to admit if they can't make enough of it. So they don't discuss it, rather commit suicide and leave the problem behind to those they never discussed with it. Men are just plain stupid per se and completely useless.
@crankinup120 depends where your from too in certain parts in the world for instance the netherlands its perfectly normal to disguss finances with strangers, it is considerd impolite to not answer
@TheObelix876 That's not completely true, though... I think it depends on how you're raised. I'm also Dutch, and in my family we never talked about money, and it's considered very impolite to aks f.e. how much money someone's making on a specific job.
You know what if she left her job thats fine! you see SO MANY women in America and other parts of the world that complain about having a job and how they hate it! Its her choice....jeez people i doesnt matter what they do as long as they're frickin happy!
@clitasaurus1 But someone women have no choices about going back to work, does that make them slaves? We see it one way based on our perceptions about what is going on. We assume everyone should have certain expectations set for themselves but that is not necessarily how it needs to be.
@pinkpixiechic I'm totally with you! My hubby makes most of the money, and even though we need my measly income to get by, since I don't make near as much, work near as hard, or work near as often, I pick up the slack at home. By choice. It is my choice to do these things, do the washing and the cooking. We could eat ramen and frozen food all week, but I CHOOSE to do these, and they have become a necessity for my family. Gypsy girls continue in this culture by CHOICE.
@bujusbaby Being shunned by your family sucks, but you can endure it if you want things to change. Your family will come around or they won't. Mine shunned me because I married outside my culture, but I wanted a change and I took it. There are Gypsy girls that get out, my great-grandma is a Gypsy girl, and she married a non-Gypsy. You other people can preach all you like about how dumb these girls are, but trust me, they think it's terrible you don't cook, clean, & take care of your own kids. Oi
@bujusbaby they don't have a choice, their taken out of school at a young age and pretty much just shut off from the rest of the world. They can't think for themselves!
@clitasaurus1 There are many cultures that frown on marrying into other cultures. Maybe more girls should think about their reputations and their actions when it comes to boys. Personally I ask for permission to leave the house. My job is taking care of our child, would someone at work just up and leave their job for a break without talking to someone else first? Asking them to cover for them? Just because their culture is different doesn't give us a right to judge it.
@clitasaurus1 Maybe you didnt notice but in other episodes they show girls who choose to work. Im not saying every girl dreams of staying home, but most of these girls do. Some women dont want to go to work but they do. Women dont always get to make choices about how they, sometimes the decisions are out of necessity. Should a woman who is forced to work to support her family be considered a slave? She would be based on your standards
the secrecy surrounding money isn't a social quirk....it has much more to do with the source of the money .....we are expected to believe that all this gaudy trash is paid by the wages of roofers, trailer park managers or tree surgeons.....the only explainable source for this money is criminal activity ....you don't see the men doing too much work in these videos
@clitasaurus1 I think that statement used in this context diminishes the horror slaves suffer. These women choose their husbands, have homes and food with loving families.
@pinkpixiechic they've been raised to believe its good, they've never been taught any different. at 11 they had no choice about getting pulled out of school, and at 21 if they're not married their too old.
@Skyebright1 some of these girls drop out, because they are picked on by other students and since most of the teachers think the same way they don't do anything about it. most places won't hire them unless they hide who they are, which is discrimination which nobody does anything about. i wouldn't stay in school either to put up with being picked on everyday, all day just to get no where because no one will hire me because of my heritage.
If my wife left her job to take care of me.. I would drag her ass BACK to where she could get her job back!!!!!!!!! 2 paychecks are better than one! Why dont they get that????
I gave up my job to stay home and take care of my fiance and our baby. He is out of the house working 11 hours a day and I think it is my job to make sure he has food on the table and a clean house.
@pinkpixiechic Yes, it is your job – because you chose it. There is very little choice (if any) for these gypsy girls; that's the difference. Most are uneducated and can hardly read or write enough to get a job. x
I think more parents need to make their kids work out their marriage like this mom says!! at 8:00. I know a girl that got in her first fight(verbal obviously) with her husband, she ran home, and her mom says we can get the divorce baby! It's sick! All married people fight. It's the American way to say lets just get the divorce when things get hard.
The Gypsies were very shrewd negotiators. Perhaps people, whose bargaining skills were lacking, would think themselves robbed. All the people, in the area, looked forward to the Gypsies' annual encampment. Each year everyone wanted to have the Gypsies' camp on their property, because they got first chance to bargain for horses and whatever else, and also received the best price for whatever they got.
your giving up ur job ur independence for the sake of a man .. u came 5 steps forward just to take 10 back ... how fuck'n dumb do u have to be .. cant these men take care of them self without the women given up everything ??? i don't see the men giving up anything
@crit1227 For his age? I bet the man isn't even 50. Assuming he married at 17 and his son died 14 years ago at age 18, that would put Paddy in his late 40s.
@Sashaeharmony Not all Gypsies are Romani. These are Irish Gypsies, a whole different breed of gypsy, based on a different culture. There are also gypsies in the US, but we tend to call them Carnies. It is a way of life for some of them, not just a look. Further, just because they aren't Romani, and they have a slightly different culture, doesn't make them a "sad imitation." They're not an imitation at all. They're just different.
they work everyday at home...taking care of the kids and cleaning from top to bottom everyday.....that is work ,even if it doesn't earn you money....work is about pleasing someone..in this case she's pleasing her family, just as she would a customer if she was a waitress or a doctor pleasing his patient
I totally get the secrecy around financial matters and I don't think that it is only travellers who feel this way. Although I am first generation Australian, my parents are from Scotland and England and I was raised to never discuss money. To do so was considered the height of bad manners.....and being dragged up in poverty or nurtured while surrounded in wealth made no difference.
@meitagh That is the reason some man commit suicide when they can't make as much as they used to, so instead of discussing it with the family, they take the easy option and let them deal with it on their own.
@blondecat666 You are right.... I have realised that my family's way is unhealthy and has had a negative impact on the way I deal with money. The secrecy can be toxic as it isolates those who may need help or advice....I was never shown how to manage money, it was left up to me to figure it out.
@anaangel92 i don't know what american housewives do , but here in italy both young husbands and wives have to have a job if they want to eat something each day

If my wife left her job to take care of me.. I would drag her ass BACK to where she could get her job back!!!!!!!!! 2 paychecks are better than one! Why dont they get that????
GymGuy247 9 months ago 5
@GymGuy247 so in your situation your wife wouldn't have a choice either?

I gave up my job to stay home and take care of my fiance and our baby. He is out of the house working 11 hours a day and I think it is my job to make sure he has food on the table and a clean house.
pinkpixiechic 9 months ago
@pinkpixiechic Yes, it is your job – because you chose it. There is very little choice (if any) for these gypsy girls; that's the difference. Most are uneducated and can hardly read or write enough to get a job. x

@pinkpixiechic Well alrighty the. If you're content with that, good for you :S

Hehe, In my opinion paddy definitely has an Irish or Scottish mans mentality. I cant help but find it a little charming.
music4lifebaby 9 months ago
I wouldn't fuck with Paddy the man looks great for his age.
crit1227 9 months ago
@crit1227 For his age? I bet the man isn't even 50. Assuming he married at 17 and his son died 14 years ago at age 18, that would put Paddy in his late 40s.
Frankly, I think he looks old for his age.

Why won't people give a hotel room to the gypsies? Just curios. I live in the U.S. and have never seen a gysy before.
jax252000 10 months ago
@jax252000
You probably have seen those with gypsy blood but these gypsies aren't the first actual gypsies called Rromani.
They are a sad imitation. The true gypsies don't have their children dressed in slutty attire and are very poor. They aren't white either.
Sashaeharmony 10 months ago 2
@Sashaeharmony You are SO right. Real Romani do not look like that.
agora1955 9 months ago

@superaweosome91 "Doctor pleasing his patient"... haha, gross.

I totally get the secrecy around financial matters and I don't think that it is only travellers who feel this way. Although I am first generation Australian, my parents are from Scotland and England and I was raised to never discuss money. To do so was considered the height of bad manners.....and being dragged up in poverty or nurtured while surrounded in wealth made no difference.
meitagh 1 year ago 100
@meitagh That is the reason some man commit suicide when they can't make as much as they used to, so instead of discussing it with the family, they take the easy option and let them deal with it on their own.
blondecat666 8 months ago
@blondecat666 You are right.... I have realised that my family's way is unhealthy and has had a negative impact on the way I deal with money. The secrecy can be toxic as it isolates those who may need help or advice....I was never shown how to manage money, it was left up to me to figure it out.
