I drove through your town today, I got a headache in my lower temples, and saw the massive amounts of pollution pumped into the air. Dont get too sick living there!
@hartling...Wrong on the "water vapor". Here's a quote... "Entry of Terpenes into the atmosphere occurs by volatilization of hydrocarbons. These compounds react photochemically with OZONE, causing a blue haze. I would need 3000 words to describe the complete process, and how pulp mills downplay the importance of the above. Only DDT-Lindane, chlorine dioxide, and ozone are used to kill all micro organisms. how much ozone is in our air? Are mandatory TRUE Ozone reports made from the mill?
Into the meat of it... Consider the presence of Elemental Chlorine, and what that can mean. Consider the first Patent filed for DDT, and the fact that DDT was created by simple mixing of Kraft pulping waste. The only issue was the creation of Hexachlorobenzene. That was difficult until the genius accidentally stumbled onto creating "Chloral" by condensing Chlorine and Sulfuric Acid. The Benzene/Fractional Crystallization was stumbled upon by placing it in sunlight, the Gamma Isomer. More later
Continued. OHSA /chlorine dioxide gives the best understandable information regarding human exposure. Pg. 9 states rules of mandatory respirator usage for workers exposed to >0.01 ppm. If you can smell chlorine, it's above that. Next, google Murphy's Law: Coming To A Pulp Mill Near You?-Holmes But there is more. No "on site" process for creating ClO(2) is Elemetal Chlorine free. Google Towards zero-effluent pulp and paper production. Pg 26-27 describe all methods, and amounts of Cl made.
Great work. The beginning comment can be addressed in this way. I have found that the worst discharges are released on Sundays. There have been days when the smell of Chlorine is so overpowering, that no one is outside in the Brock area where i live. Think about that Chlorine smell. The Mill doesn't use elemental chlorine any longer, so the smell is due to Chlorine Dioxide. That is truly bad stuff, and holds the same hazard ratings as DDT. You must check the US EPA for that info.
Just want to note that I am not trying to detract from your argument. There is no reason, with the technology at our disposal, for this sort of pollution. We need to make a switch not just to green energy, but away from petrol based products of all forms.
@hartling ...that grass land is designated 4X4 area, tree huggers would like it if the billions of recreational vehicles would simply disapear in to fairytale land, though its not going to happen, they should be pro(as in positive)active....we need more designated area's to 4X4. as for the air quality your a fucking sheaple...you believe that propaganda machine BC airquality BS? who the fuck are you to say its water vapor, are you a profesional? where's our test? PG's air test was kept from them
@citizensolidarity I removed a number of my comments after reading about your attempts to introduce more sustainable fuels into 4x4ing etc (nicely done). I just want to say that the 'smoke' you see is mostly water vapour (not making it up), the stuff that is harmful is not visible. A lot of this has to do with Valley Inversion. Domtar is part of the problem, certainly. However, air pollution is a meta problem. There are 1000's of vehicles in this city, buildings etc which all contribute.
But, condemning me for being a 'tree hugger' in the context of a video you created to bash a pulp mill? If you really wanted to get back at all those damn hippy tree huggers you should be helping Domtar (you do know what they do to trees there right?) I'm joking with you! Now, if you will excuse me this little sheaple has to get back to the Grasslands.
I'm so glad I got out of that hole many years ago.I read your page & it's nice to see that someone is paying attention.I'm dyslexic & got a kick out of the stuff about English at the end :o I live in Victoria now & love it(I was born on the west coast, just misspent my teenage years in loops) but I can't believe we still don't have any sort of sewage treatment. There are people actively fighting it saying inane crap like"the environment can take care of itself".
I'll agree with you on the Kamloops smog issue. That mill has gotten away with years of deferring their environmental upgrades. They aren't even up to 2008 emissions standards as we speak and they keep asking for extensions. The city says "ok" because they provide us with many jobs...but, who wants cancer? Something needs to be done..
product of my society...at a young age motorsports is used as a passifier.I am adicted to speed and power thanks to TV, toys, soiciety...it does bug me that u can buy 400-600hp any where...
but I am trying,I sponsor a "take it to the track" to get street races off the street, the truck is on propane(much cleaner for environment), also developing hydrogen generators which increase power, gas milage, greatly reduces emmisions.
lol, your complaining about air pollution and yet you go 4x4'ing all the time... Not trying to disagree with you,the pollution is bad, but your being a bit hypocritical don't you think?
I agree with this comment. Looking at your other video...you are clearly 4x4ing up in the Grasslands (an area which is extremely sensitive). Furthermore, the only time I have seen the air quality in Kamloops above 2 is during Forest Fire season. Domtar contributes to a lowering of Air Quality in Kamloops, certainly. However, what we are seeing is mostly water vapour. I would be more concerned about what is being dumped into the river from the mill. People and corporations both pollute

I don't drive a diesel (worst polluters)
not so obvious now is it?
