Very charming, accomplished and interesting man... I would like to see an interview in which his views were challenged more though. Is there one on the 'tube?
Mr. fisk has suferd as every lebanese during the bitter years of war, being so transperent reporting his news and having the wisdom and the guts to say the ultimate truth Mr. Robert a man of vision i salute you
I have a lot of respect for Robert Fisk. I sadly share in his gloomy view of the future in the middle east. And of the rest of the world that's going to get dragged into it.
Denouncing the Crusades is a bit like beginning a history of the Second World War in 1944 and stating that D-day, the invasion of Normandy, was a wicked invasion, concocted by Britain, the USA and other allies, of France which was, of course, the natural home of the Germans.
You have to ignore centuries of Muslim aggression to reach this conclusion.
This CharlesDickens guy who seems to write on every Fisk video is a werid one, he sent me this message that ended with a comment about The great war for civilisation "this is the type of book I would expect Osama bin Ldens favourite journalist to write." What an ass.
When President Obama spoke at the Al-Azhar University in Cairo, he omitted to mention that although Coptic Christians are forced to pay taxes to support it, they are not allowed to attend it. Fisk has also failed to mention this fact.
When the Muslims entered in Jerusalem in 638 they didn't hurt anyone unlike the crusaders who butchered every muslim and jew and even christians there. When Caliph Umar came to Jerusalem he treated the non-Muslims with respect so there's no comparison between the two. At Hattin Saladin for the most part tore apart the Templars who are responsible for most of the atrocities commited against civilians. I would say Saladin is an honorable man but Imad ad-din Zangi was completely different man.
During the third Crusade Saladin executed all Christians he captured, not only those who had killed civilians. The reason no major battle was fought for Jerusalem in 638 was that Byzantines had been defeated at Battle of Yarmuk in 636. Jerusalem sustained a 4 month siege before it surrendered. Saladin and Muslims in 638 were engaged in occupation and turning people into refugees in their own country.
What is your point? I have seen a lot of your comments, you seem more informed that most on youtube, so what are you arguing here? Knowing as much as you seem to do, i'd like to assume that you'd also be aware the score keeping is not exactly a valid way to look at history. Every civilisation, kingdom, empire, has raped, pillaged and plundered times countless. There is no almost valid criterion to say whether one was better or worse than the rest. Still, you make good arguments.

Strange that he says that he wants to write a film script about the Middle-East and that films get worse every year.
Can it be that he has realized that the huge praise he gave for Ridley Scotts Kingdom of Heaven was unjustified?
It is full of historical inaccuracies.
It doesnt tell you that when Saladins forces decisively defeated the Crusaders at Hattin on July 3, 1187, he ordered the mass execution of his Christian opponents.

Ridley Scotts Kingdom of Heaven ignores much history.
It tells you that Saladins forces captured Jerusalem from the Crusaders in 1187.
It doesnt tell you that the Muslims captured Jerusalem from the Christians in 638.

You forgot about the baby eating, also he ate babies. And tipped cows for funsies. But only on Saturdays, because baby eating takes ones time up.
