20 sit ups a day won't get you a six pack at all. You have to increase the amount you do as the muscles in your stomach get stronger. And just sit ups won't get you a six pack, you have to do cardio to burn the fat off of your stomach
I don't see you say anything in the video about loosing fat by doing sit-ups, but it's in the description. You also burn can burn fat by lying in bed and clicking the television remote. Don't advertise the fact that sit ups burn body fat, because the fact is it's probably the least efficient way to burn fat, and that is not the goal of the sit-up. Also,i would think you would demonstrate in your video how to effectively and safely do a situp rather than just sitting on a mat and discussing them.
@slickrich28 Fat is burned when energy demands are increased, triglycerides split into fatty acids that fuel aerobic demands in most of the body's cells and glycerin which can fuel the brain. Ketone byproducts can also fuel the brain.
@weedyak Weed, all exercise burns calories. These calories can come from fat all over your body. There is no evidence that working a specific muscle will burn fat in the cells on top of the muscle, but abdominal exercise is part of an overall fitness routine. Working all the muscles in your body will spread out the work so you can do more of it, and burn more fat overall. If your body loses fat, inevitably some of it will come off of your midsection.
situps do work if you only have a little bit of fat becuase what mucles do as they get stronger they burn more fat around the area just dont do situps with a dumbell or something because if you still have fat ,that will get your muscles bigger and it will make you look bigger if there is still fat around it
@givemerockbitch You misunderstand: working a muscle, while it may burn fat that comes from the area around it, does not do so preferentially. The abdominal muscles can hypertrophy and grow bigger even if people do unweighted repetitions. Using a dumbbell is an excellent timesaver for strong people so that fewer repetitions are required.
The abs should still be built even if you have midsection fat. They are important for posture and will eventually help reduce fat stores in general.
You burn fat by burning more calories than you take in. You help this process by performing cardio like running and bicycling. Sit ups are anaerobic exercise, meaning without Oxygen. Your just strengthen the muscles so that when you do loose fat by doing cardio, you will have abs that will be visible. In order to be burning fat while doing situps, you would have to do like 200 situps a minute to increase your heart rate enough so that enough Oxygen is being delivered to burn fat.
@bobbob12g Your understanding is not correct. Anaerobic exercise is also aerobic exercise. It is exercise that exceeds the ability to produce energy with oxygen. Oxygen is still being used. Fat is still being burned.
The simple fact is this: anaerobic exercises burns as much fat as is possible to burn. Aerobic exercises does not, if lactate is not being produced, maximal oxygen is not being utilized.
Please study aerobic and anaerobic metabolism before making further comments, it is sequential
But situps don't actually burn fat. They burn sugar. Your abs and stomach hurt after doing situps because the burned sugar waste can't be removed quickly enough from the muscle. It's a poor way of trying to loose weight, but good for toning muscle.
@bobbob12g Dude, what are you talking about? They burn both bro. Our aerobic metabolism can be fueled by either fat or carbohydrate.
When we exceed our aerobic capacity then yes, we get the extra energy from glycolysis and fermentation, but the body is still using as much oxygen as possible to burn, and due to the shortage of carbohydrate (which is being turned into lactate) it will preferentially burn fatty acids as they are released to supplement the cell's energy demands to spare glycogen.
@Thomisco7 Actually, since everyone has abs, a slim body is enough to see them. But, if you build the muscle, you can see it more easily at a higher level of body fat.
@DerrickSilk That is admirable work. Whether or not you will become slim or be able to view your rectus abdominis depends on your diet. Bicycling will increase your energy consumption. Combined with calorie restriction it can get you there. D+E combination often works better.
so justin timberlake teaches sit ups now? ftw

@weedyak Yes but not entirely, when you are not exercising, just take your ipod and walk/jog for an hour.
