@ppiaseck you lower keys on guitar by dropping the tuning of the whole instrument. this could be tuned down 5 steps, you couldnt see it visually. it isnt however...:) impressive

if you ask Arnel who is better, him or Steve, who do you think he would say???...it would have nothing to do with him being humble either...Arnel is an honest dude...you know that he knows Steve is better....this is evidenced by the fact that journey had to lower the keys to almost every song for nearly every show after only 1 year of touring...it's because the vocal legacy that Steve Perry created can't be handled in the original keys over a prolonged period of time by any singer...fact

@SixStringDeity exactly...but Steve Perry did it for 8 years without resorting to the lowering key standard that all singers are guilty of due to age....overtouring killed Steve Perry's voice which is sad...but he set the standard...he wrote and performed the vocal melodic lines that no other male on the planet is able to sustain singing night in and night out due to them being too vocally demanding...Arnel is a good, but his natural range is an octave lower than Perry in his prime

@islapilluminati Steve sets the bar too high that even he himself could no longer sustain it...and simply quit. The available concert videos of Steve were recorded and mixed for public release, thus shows him in top form. The band (with SP) may have lowered the keys also while on tour but no proof since cellphones with cameras were not yet available unlike now.

@seyerb actually...Journey NEVER lowered the keys to the songs in live performances during the Perry era...even during their last raised on radio tour, in which Perry's voice was destroyed due to relentless touring, they continued to sing the songs in the original keys despite the fact that Perry was struggling with them...Perry only sang in lower keys in his 40's after leaving Journey and the damage was already done...but of course you are missing the point...Perry had more range and talent:)

I respect your opinion when you say that Journey "NEVER" lowered the keys during the SP days, but unless you're Steve Perry yourself posting on YT anonymously, then your claim has yet to be proven.

@seyerb on numerous occasions in several songs Steve Perry hit an A5 in falsetto both in the studio and live versions..Arnel can't hit that note..even if he had his balls removed he can't..it is beyond his ability...he can't hit it in the studio..he can't hit it live..he can't hit it period..it is a note that when sung with the smoothness, power, and perfection as Perry and only a few others in rock could, makes the jaw drop in astonishment..it puts to rest this bullshit about who is better

Ok honestly I hate how in almost every journey vid I see people compare arnel with steve darn move on steve was the best but arnel is the best thing that happened to journey ever since steve so I think that kinda puts then on an even keel though arnel still has a lot to do but can't we all just have fun with the vid and not have to see comments comparing them?

@2012Steelerfan exactly...that is what these Arnel fanboys do not understand...I am a musician...Arnel is a good singer....but he is not a true tenor...his natural vocal range is roughly an octave lower than Perry...if you compare them in their primes, the story remains the same...even a versatile alto can strain his voice to sing Perry's original vocal lines...but for how long?...only 1 year of touring in the case of Arnel...every song written on Eclipse is written in a lower vocal register

@islapilluminati - Yes. I saw Journey's first show with Jeff Scott Soto in Bristow, VA and although his stage presence was cool he was WAY out of his range and straining like crazy as well. It is really hard to sing the early Journey stuff in key because Perry's vocals were way up there.
