Why would they do a school version that basically dumbs down the social themes and of what made RENT such a classic musical? This is utterly homophobic and conservative. Much of RENT was based mostly off Jonathan Larson's life, I mean if you remove all of the important stuff students would be missing out on what the musical is trying to teach them about life.
To the previous commentary: If you guys don't do shows because of fear, then the closed minded people have already won. Anyone that watches RENT and doesn't get the overall meaning just because they couldn't get past homosexual relationships is an idiot.
I would love to put this on for our school, but unfortuantly like the person before me said, i live in a small town too and the roles are a bit "risky". But i could give a shit, and i wish the the community would allow this play, becuase putting the roles aside, this play has a deep and meaninful message.
well done guys...i really admire you... we had the idea of perfoming it at our school but we were afraid that our local community would misunderstand us(i live in a small village in Greece) because of the homosexul roles so we didn't do it...! well done, again!
@MrThitas Thanks! it was a challenge for us; but, we did it because we felt it was important event for the community. Was only well received because we worked hard to educate everyone about the issues. It was so worth it!
