IMO, Gummo made the best usage of Like a Prayer EVER. i love that song AND th movie. the song fits the movie in the most perfect way, when you think about it

This film is a complete masterpiece. No questions necessary. It's the only movie I can watch over and over, or fall asleep to. And I also say "that's so gummo" at many things. This film has inspired my photography as well as my perception of the world and every moment of my life. I could do without every other film on Earth as long as I have Gummo.

whoa, some of these scenes aren't even in the movie. Like the part where the Jehovah's witness skinhead brothers spit dust over the camera or the minstrel scene with the guy in blackface make up. Weird

I think this video makes us all think about what we really want out of life. Obviously the kids in this movie have problems that is why they act the way they do. They have no parents that care, they just do whatever. I think it's a great movie. Better than watching some movie that has been remade over and over again.

the reason so many people hate this film is they don't understand that this film isn't supposed to make a straight out in your face point. it's not like slumdog millionaire or any of those feel good films. you have to look past what they are doing and ask "why are they doing this? is it due to their lack of guidence growing up? their surroundings? the people they surround themselves with?" asking deeper questions like those can make someone understand films like Gummo.

You answered your own question. Ask yourself: what is the artistic significance of there being no plot? It's deliberate choice by the director to show how drab life is. She is trying to say their lives are pointless and meaningless; such as saying a movie without a plot is pointless and meaningless.

GUMMO is a great film because it captures something that hasn't been expressed on film before, or at least, hasn't been realized on film so frighteningly before. White trash America has been portrayed by directors like Giuseppe Andrews and John Waters, but almost always in a humorour or stereotypical context. GUMMO gives it characters emotional resonance, albeit in a disturbing way. It's fascinating to see how these people live and how they fail to adapt after the tornado hit.
