Pt 3: "From now on I will lead a christian life. dedicate my days to prayer and conmtemplation. And in order to control myself, I will keep a diary. And I really hope nobody will read there about me being drunk again!" Years later, when the Prince Elector felt death coming, he made hios rtestament. And his heirs found a heavy parchment book. Inside, on every page you could read the same: "Be reasonable, dear people. I hearby attest: I was again badly loaded today".
@biathlonmann .
You can't be anything but fanatic about this singer. Saw him twice ; wandering around that church so confident , effortless producing those over the top, but always correct notes. The voice controle, the attitude, the charisma ; the full exploitation of this gift of nature. Also the only thing I didn't turn away from in my puberty ; whilst resenting all the rest my dear parents had to offer ;-)
Please, please, somebody with a good command of German, post a translation of the lyrics! The title suggests something racy . . . (sorry, Bette! Something is happening "on a bed," according to the bit o'German I know).
I had to listen, jwccc47, because my first name is Bette. Mr. Rebroff was a wonderful singer, what a shame that he passed away. I've never heard of him before.
Somebody asked for translation.
It's a trditional student song. Nice to sing, even nicer
when you are drunk. Often sung with dedicated roles (Prince/Moor/Rest).
Also, the middle stanca can by sung by the melody of traditional church song.
As for the text:
Angrily Prince Elector Palatine Friedrich rolled in his bed.
Against good etiquette he yelled for his Moor: "How the
hell did I get into bed yesterday" he demanded to know.
"Looks likve I've been drunk again".

Pt 2_
"Well", the Chamber Moor grinned, "you certainly looked somehwat unsteady.
Even His Grace, the Elector Bishop of Mainz seemd to be bit loaded.
It must have been a great party - every body was dead drunk again."
"You think this is funny? Fuck!
You keep laughing, son of a slave!"
"From now on, I will change my ways.
Hassan, hear my pledge:
by death and plague, this was the last time I was drunk!"

Were goind to be drunk today again!

Now you know. Here, have another!

(Sorry: "*in* the bed." Even racier.)

the song is about "kurfürst friedrich IV. von der pfalz", who is said to be an alcoholic.
the story starts with him tossing and turning in his bed, as he doesn't know how he got there the last night.
as his slave laughs about him and other visitors of the festivity being drunk, friedrich swears never to get drunken again.
to assure this he wants to write down his leisure activities in his diary.
as he dies his heirs find this diary and on each side it says "today drunken again".
