I guess you're not one of the 'early adopters'. I ride one up and down Venice Beach almost daily and the things that most people shout at me are, "Where did you get that?" and "I want one".
@StreetStriderVideos Early Adopters? That means you've successfully passed gained innovators in your product's life cycle, congrats. But in all seriousness, decent adaptation from elliptical machine to outdoor fun. Good luck with it.
Although I'm not so sure how seriously you should take the folks on Venice Beach, I wouldn't imagine a lot of them having access to a bank account =p JK
Thanks much! It's been a tough road with the bad economy but we're several years in and growing. Keep your eyes out, if the trends of the last few years continue it will continue to gain acceptance and come down in price over the next few years. BTW, Venice Beach is one of the biggest tourist attractions in CA with over 5 million visitors from all over the world annually (Disneyland gets roughly 14.6). Keep watching!
An very important aspect of exercise to maintain strong bones, is weight-bearing. As you may know all of our cellular parts are continually being overturned. This means that proteins, minerals, cell membranes, etc., are continually being replaced, some parts faster than others.
The axial loads on our long bones are detected by the bone cells that both lay down new bone, osteoblasts, and those that reabsorb bone, osteoclasts. If the axial loads are small osteoclasts are more active than osteoblasts and bone is reabsorbed, a significant problem for being in microgravity during a stay at the space station.
Osteoporosis is also the result of bone reabsorption and it is important, especially as we age, to engage in weight bearing exercise and although swimming is very good for many reasons, it is not weight-bearing.
Streetstriding gives you the benefits of full-body, high caloric output, and weight bearing, a feature that swimming does not include.
@StreetStriderVideos No problem; I appreciate your response and am thankful for that explanation. It is very understandable. My stand is that the combination of swimming and cycling/jogging (which, interestingly enough, combined into the Street Strider) is crucial to vitality. They work together in harmony to strengthen the body; not only in terms muscular conditioning but also in terms of organ functionality (ex. gastrointestinal system).
Clearly there is some impact just because it is weight bearing, but because your feet are moving in an elliptical motion, the impact is greatly reduced. This is coming from an old skateboarder who has been riding a strider for almost 3 years.
It's funny cause you can't tell when people are just joking around and actually being sarcastic. Trust me if I said "oh dude, where'd you get that!" I would be with my friends and after you left we'd laugh our fucking ass's off.
I'm a 39 yo surfer/skater originally from the NY area who has lived in VB for 13 years, I can detect sarcasm, thank you. It is mostly the BMX guys who are sarcastic, skaters mostly seem to like it.
wow Humans are just finding more and more ways to implement their workouts in the most lazy way possible. The most effective workout is running guys. Look at boxers or mma fighters. They have to be the most well conditioned athletes in the world and have superb endurance levels in order to fighter their 3, 5, or 11 rounds and the only workout they do the most is running. Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali said in an interview that they used to run 7-8 miles everyday. Hate it or love it, u gotta do it.
I just like preserving my soft tissue while I get my cardio.
But I do think that fighters (and football players) will continue to adopt the StreetStrider as time goes by. Chuck Liddell already has one, as does Ladanian Tomlinson and Drew Brees. Thanks for your thoughts! Well taken.

It's our patented lean to steer system, it takes a little getting used to, but becomes second nature generally within 15 minutes.

Nothing is wrong with a bicycle, this is just a more efficient workout and creates less stress on your body.
