@muckeditup because the classic 80's cartoon portrayed the chipmunks as regular kids with regular lives (besides being a hit musicians of course). They went to school, had friends, and communicated with people in a regular way.

And yes i do miss the classic version of the chipmunks and chipettes, I do not really like the modern version of them in the movies today, it's not the same.

I'm sure people who grew up with the 1950's ones would think "why did they have to ruin the 1950s ones by giving them these stories with morals?
