Not smart by the women getting that close... We run Tipton's Cabin Rentals in Townsend just 20 minutes from cades cove and see this more times than not. A bear that does not run is very dangerous. Never take them for granted.. even Cades Cove bears! You did right by staying in the car.
Ok, do you really think I would allow my children outside the car when ther is a WILD bear across the street! All three of my children were safely in the car with the window up. I was standing in the sun roof window videotaping this.
I've been going to the Smokies for over 50 years and it never ceases to amaze me how people react when they see a Bear. These animals are not pets and in a blink of an eye, this lady could have been mauled to death.....
I see 2 things wrong with with video. First, the lady who gets so close to the bear that it charges at her is very very stupid. her actions could have caused this innocent bear to be killed. Then i hear someone slamming the car door shut, maybe the people who were videoing this. You don't make loud sudden noises if you want to see & get pictures of the bears, the slamming of the car door could have scared the bear off.
Stupidity! That woman's actions could have resulted in the bear being euthanized if she had been attacked. I hope the park service can identify her from this video, so she can be charged for violating the 50 yard rule regarding our GSMNP wildlife.

They slammed the door because those videoing it allowed the kids outside of the car. The pure stupidity of people these days amazes me.

What a dumb woman. Good bear for bluff charging her without causing injury that would have resulted in its own death.

Wow... it's those type of people that end up ruining it for the others that enjoy places like this and actually respect wildlife.
