  • They don't give a scientific reason for it. Neutrino's heating up the core to the point the earth cracks. Carl Sagan may you rest in peace, I'm almost glad you weren't here to see this.

  • Saying that special effects are a placeholder is an unbelievably snobbish thing to say. Movies are visual art and when special effects are done really well (like LOTR or Avatar) they are a very important part of the atmosphere of the movie. Of course too much tasteless special effects (as in 2012) are not good, however you can never say that special effects are just placeholders, it's stupid.

  • @Ylviste very true

  • view this here a^v^a^t^z.net remove ^

  • You know what? I enjoyed 2012. Why? I watched it for FUN! I knew it would be crazy and stupid but it was enjoyable! Suspension of disbelief folks!

  • That cant be right... i have a yogurt that expires in 2013 O.O

  • you answer to your review on 4:15 - 4:30 about the plane is that the earth is moving all the time in that scene... so he would have difficulty manuvering through all that..

  • Seeing it again, I just wanted the main characters to die, and everyone else to live.

  • I just liked the earthqrake part XD That was pretty bad A effects!

  • t mobile i wanna be able to text 24/7 and run over people that get in the way of my car as im texting, and talking about my nut rash at the same time. oh and t mobile i want a lawyer too.

  • 2013 will be set in Cape of Good Hope...Wonder where the black people will be?..lol

Or is it going to be a whitewash like The O.C.?

  • I heard they are going to make a series called 2013.

  • 2012 is a guitly pleasure movie, and anybody looking for story and plot in this movies clearly aren't paying attention, while the movie is dumb and repetative, it deliver's on what most people came to see anyway, what if? destruction.

  • The world will end in 2012 when Palin gets into the white house :)

  • @BrokenPuzzle lol do you watch Supernatural? I loved in the future episode where the world was really fucked up (I think it was 2015 though) and there's a newspaper with a headline that says something about "President Palin".

  • @savieandkay D: No I don't watch it, but maybe I should start.

  • @BrokenPuzzle not really the world... american supremecy

  • Go see The Road instead.

  • UNDERRATED!!

  • if these guys thought 2012 was bad, then it must be absolutely horrendous.

  • 2012 is for people who think the end of the world is coming soon

  • The earth hums at around 8Htz in frequency. So does the human brain. Coincidence? So if the earth starts humming faster, will the Human Mind? Nikoli Tesla knew about this humming. When the galactic plane alignment occurs, the earth will easily go through such forces we never thought were out there. And time will be recycled.

  • Whhhattt I must be one of the few ppl that liked the movie. I really enjoyed it!

  • i believe in 2012 but this movie was CAPITAL BULLSHIT HAHAHA

  • Am I the only person who kind of sees a vagina in this video somewhere? lol

Sorry it's just really distracting ...

(Maybe it's just my dirty mind)

  • God, the movie lost me when I heard the reason the apocalypse is coming about.

Solar neutrino's pass through us all the time. In fact, about 50 trillion pass through the average human body each second! And that's ok, because they barely interact with matter. A leaden plate a lightyear thick would only stop about half of the neutrino's that pass through it.

I know realism is not something to look for in this movie, but at least think of a good concept if you are going to spend millions anyhow.

  • This is one of the worst movie ever, it makes Jason X seem like a masterpiece.

  • favorite part was seeing obama XD "this has scard me so much that i turned 100% black" hee hee

oh and when the kid says the plain is big the russian guy says "cause its russian

  • the movie sucked but my fav part was either when the russian chick flipped off the annoying fat russian, or when the fat russian died hahaha

  • i want godzilla 2, :(

  • The best part of the movie was at the end, when it was stated that the continent of Africa had the new highest mountain AND rose up

  • 2012 was total science fiction. It had a "B" grade movie script with an "A" grade budget.

  • Ben! You're cool.

  • that's kinda what made the Dark Knight overly amazing. you expect a sequal to batman begins, which was good.

but then you get some amazing shit, so it's over you expectation, waaay over for me, and it becomes even better.

  • BEN!

Ben is such a bad ass.

  • watching John Cusak in a movie, reminds of stuffing your mouth full of dry, tasteless crackers. I cant think of a more boring actor.

  • i thought the movie was kick ass!

quite picking out the little hairs and whatnot and just enjoy the ride

  • My sister went to see it with my mom. Her review "The world ended, there were earthquakes and volcanoes. Is the world going to end?"

I'm getting the feeling she didn't like it that much, because when we went to Independence Day her review was "Aliens blew up the White House! Then Will Smith Punched an alien and said something funny! ...Are aliens going to blow up Kentucky?"

  • Two reviewers apart from Cenk are pretentious douches. They went in thinking it will be a serious documentary on the state of affairs, tsk tsk. Worst movie of the year!! WTF..

Don't listen to them, the movie was a blast and would come seriously close to beating out Dark Knight.

  • YEAH RIGHT

  • The world "really" ended in Knowing. In this movie , the world survived through Noah's arc.

  • What's with John Cusak playing the (failed) writer characters ?! SERIOUSLY. EVERY MOVIE.

  • Godzilla "end of taste "

    hahahah! good one

  • 2012 is a cgi spectacle. full price ticket or matinee, it doesn't matter, it deserves a single viewing and then buy the dvd

...and the rotten tomatoes guy is always an excellent guest, pls tyt, have him more often!!!

  • I'm not saying "2012" or "12/21/2012" is real. I'm saying Polar Shifts are real.

People just think Polar Shifts will happen on that day.

Polar shifts were suppose to happen to use thousands of years ago, but didn't. This left people to believe it will happen on that day.

Polar shifts is when the earth shifts. "North Pole becomes South Pole. South Pole becomes North Pole." That's the basics of Polar Shift. If that makes it causes Earthquakes, Tsunamis, and etc.. like the movie.

  • ಠ_ಠ...No.

  • The movie was okay in my opinion. The effects were nice.

My only issue is the plot. The way that an average family somehow got to a random location in China to be safe, and also saves the day in a way is hard to believe.

But the idea of the "2012" really happening is facts. Polar shifts are real people. If you don't believe Google it. Our last polar shift is overdue meaning we were suppose to have one thousands of years ago, but didn't. So now people think its going to happen on 12/21/2012.

  • all that it would affect is our compasses it wouldnt make the earths crust shift and stuff like in the movie

  • i just came back from seeing it and i thought it was great, i liked the research that Roland Emmerich did because he included the galactic alignment, polar shifts and solar flares which is all real and wasnt just some made up end of the world movie, it was great go see it!!

  • 2012 is so phoney, just like the whole Y2K thing, 2000 came and ppl got scared. ppl woke up the next day and everything was alright...then ppl were like ohh the calenders are off by a year 2001 it will all happen...woke up the next day were all stil here. thats what it will be like. ppl will think ohh its suppose to happen 2013...we will all wake up the next day. nothing changed. ppl will go to work...ect...you get it.

  • Don't even get me started on that one. I know first hand that Y2K wasn't a hoax. Nothing happened because people were hard at work to ensure that there were no issues when the time came.

  • No, i can't confirm that. That's not to say that on (rare) occasions there were issues, but nothing worth more than a short online article.

  • it isnt an end of the world movie unless everyone dies and it doesnt end well, unlike the day after tomorrow or independence day.

  • More like a reboot. Everything got wiped out so civilization, for the most part, is forced to start from scratch. That's pretty darn detrimental.

  • i just dont want the mayans to be right again.

  • saw the movie.

    it sucked ASS!

  • I (a person who enjoys mindless entertainment at times) watched it yesterday, and I have to admit it is one of the stupidest movies I have ever seen in my entire life. Not to mention it had possibly the worst and most hilariously obvious Biblical reference ever.

  • "solar neutrinos melting the Earth's core"

    yep, totally scientific

  • @DontHurtTheIntersect

    "melting" lol

  • Not to be an ass but there is a christian movie out by the same name 2012. it did suck ass with the bible references. over and over again. just want to make sure you didn't see the other one.

  • No, don't worry, I watched the John Cusack one with all the scientists whispering "my god..."

  • lol

  • Everytime I Hear Someone Refer To A Movie As Being Fake Or Absurb, I Always Say, "It's A Movie It's Not Supposed To Be Real Dumbass".

  • She spent all of their vacation money on a dress ?!?!?

  • The chief silliness of this film is the core premise, that the alignment of the Earth with the Sun and center of the galaxy will melt the Earth. But as that very cosmic event happens EVERY WINTER SOLSTICE, the idea that THIS TIME it'll destroy the planet is "infinitely stupid," which is Hollywood's slogan.

    Randy

  • The movie was lame!!!!! too many characters

and the movie was just CRAP!!!! seriously

it's based around one crazy family

  • "Is Rolan Emmerich black?"

    LOL!

  • 28 days later FTW

  • @tunit20 best zombie series ever

  • I am enjoying the movie reviews by TYT

  • 2012 would make a cool ride at Universal Studios but that's about it

  • i thought the movie was awesome so sue me!

  • i just watched this movie tonight

it was epic bullshit, a CGI orgy

  • I don't know. I just went for a fun time and this movie didn't disappoint. I see a lot of movie and enjoyed the hell out f this movie

  • thank you for this, I have saved myself some money and time

  • craptacular

and im not just talking about thandie newton's acting

  • everything's destroyed in this movie like there's no tomorrow.

  • Yes and the day after tomorrow....bitter bitter bitter.

  • Cenk is a magnified yes man. He always agrees and changes his opinion.

  • I thought failed Sci-Fi writers formed Hollywood religions.

Oh, and Jackson Curtis? What the HELL, man... How much of a movie name is that?

This movie looks like a particularly bad Emmerich movie. I have a way to see it free from work, and I'm still going to pass on it.

  • Comment removed

  • 2:52 isnt that 50 cent's name???

  • this movie was terrible. Worst movie ive seen since the last roman emmerick movie.

  • This movie doesn't even worth downloading with torrent

  • you wouldn't download it to see the cgi?

  • In my opinion, Stargate was the only decent movie on the list. I bet there will be plenty special FX in this one.

  • and i dont mean the film

  • i was thinking the same thing

  • this is poor, very very poor

  • lofl i find this funny since i just left vagas and am at home now and can finally keep up with my subscription

    ha bisky upload love tyt

  • Ejiofor was great in Serenity

  • Geez, just admit that you loved this movie.

  • I would like to see a remaking of the classic 50's disaster movie when worlds collide..to see how are they going to redesing the spaceship that tekes the survivors of earth to a new planet.

  • Ben is an idiot! Get rid of him!!

  • When the movie comes on DVD in march (latest), there should be a large warning label "not for impressionable people, physicists, or thinking people"

  • I'm still going to this movie, many of the critics that said the movie was good have said you will be amazed,be in suspense, and laughing at the same time.

  • You guys are way too fucking critical about this movie. Jesus fucking christ, you all are being severe douchebags.

It's a fucking movie. You know why it's not reality? Because it's a fucking movie. Turn your fucking mind off and just watch it. You guys are way too fucking critical about this movie. Jesus fucking christ, you all are being severe douchebags. It's a fucking movie. You know why it's not reality? Because it's a fucking movie. Turn your fucking mind off and just watch it. Jesus.

  • @NoobZandwich

    Whoa man; calm down.

  • Repetitive much? Repetitive much? Repetitive much?

  • Cenk is on the mark. 28 days later ftw.

  • End of the world movies are all the same :

    Big Disaster

    Ignore any character development

    Throw in CG

Somehow the human spirit prevails in the end.

  • you forgot about ignoring the laws of nature.

  • Everyone knew what it was guna be about.. so why are they critiqing about the story and plot?? its called 2012 for gods sakes

  • They are critics and its their job to critique the whole, not just pick and choose.

I believe they made their point at the end when they say while it was enjoyable, they shouldnt be satisfied with enjoying crap.

We can do better, and assuming you enjoy better things, then why not have an end of days movie thats actually good in many ways and not just in special effects and lousy suspense.

Its the critics job to rise above mindlessness

As they pointed out, better end of the world movies exist

  • Comon', 2012 is going to be the best comedy in the theaters this fall!

  • haha. I can't see it unless I am on drugs. An even then I am probably going to be unable to identify at all at any level.

  • 28 days later ruled all. good call Cenk.

  • Stephen Colbert was right. Black Presidents are a threat.

  • thanks for the review. saved me some money.

  • transformers 2 was great if you are a fan of the story.

yes it was a CGI fest, but bringing in skyfire and soundwave was great.

kinda don't want a 3rd movie out though. its enough.

  • it's JETfire, not skyfire.

  • 3rd transformers movie I would like to see an evolution of the Characters.

Like the "hunt" for Megatron. And take the Film to space a little bit. or have the autobots search for a new home.

Also, the evolution of Sheia Lebuf's (Spelling, I know) characters where he has more say/role. Like him taking up the role of being the Ambassador for the autobots and also the autobots trusting the knowledge of their technology to him alone. Transformers 2 just felt more of the same. "Run run run fight win

  • ...let me get this straight...you have EXPECTATIONS for a Transformers film? Not just expectations but the type of expectations that reasonable people have for substantive films? I am utterly baffled by this comment.

  • My friend keeps going on about how awesome this movie is going to be, but then again he loved Transformers 2.... Too bad I'm going to see it later today.

  • These folks are wasting their time - going to see this idiotic movies and then spending 15 minutes analyzing them.

  • Thats not a waste of their time, they are paid to be critics.

The people who waste their time are the ones interested in what they have to say.

If you dont care about raising the bar for movies, why care about critics?

I mean, I appreciate them, but just like when you go watch a movie, you gotta know what to expect when you go read/listen to a critic

  • Standards are so low today that this is going to be a great film to a lot of people.

  • I find so often that the people in these 'end of world' movies are the sort that I can't give a damn about. Therefore, I just don't care if they all die. I'll watch this, but I won't pay for it. So it'll be a while. I prefer after the 'end of the world' movies, like Mad Max.

  • CGI porn.

This 2012 movie sounds really boring. I'd rather stay home and watch a few documentaries on my computer. At least I'd come away a better person.

  • 'Day After Tomorrow? He made that? We are talking about that 80's flick right?

  • no we're talking about...the 2004 one.

  • @laloxortiz

    Ohhhhh...

  • Is there a dog in the movie (which is saved after being lost) ?

If not, all clichee are not in the movie.

  • Actually, yes there is.

  • no way... They have this one too ???

Holy cow, i must see this movie...

  • TOO MANY SPOILERS!

  • The shawshank part cracked me up.

    bahahahah

  • well no matter waht critics say - Im see'n it...and buying the dvd

  • If you saw The Gay After Tomorrow, then hopefully you won't have wasted your time watching this 2012 funny business.

  • Ben > Rotten tomatoes guy

  • It does sound repetitive.

  • also, i think independence day had a real story line. there was jeff goldblum's dilemma, the president's dilemma, and randy quaid's character's dilemma.

  • in reference to the "subversiveness," if you watched the day after tomorrow, most of the countries that survived were third world countries--in other words, no white countries, all minority countries-except for australia.

  • ok. 28 days later was brilliant! 28 weeks later, to my opinion, was even better. Far more brutal and visceral.

I think when Americans and Brits put their heads together, they can come up with brilliantly made films.

  • actually 28 weeks later was a British/Spanish movie.

  • Yeah but 28 weeks was crap. I like to pretend it doesnt exist.

  • @Fangtorn

    indeed

  • What didn't you like about it?

  • I had no idea! I loved it. I thought it was even better than the 1st one. Scarier.

  • Why all the compunctions guys. Come on admit it. Liking a certain movie cannot and does not effect your level of intelligence whatsoever. It's ok. You can admit you just enjoyed the film. Why start justifying why you liked it or didnt. Come on.

LIke Transformers 2. I enjoyed it. It wasn't the best story, sure, but it was enjoyable to watch. Same thing about Battlefield earth. Another really bad movie. But I enjoyed it.Cave peoplw who learn to fly f-16 planes in a weeks time of training. Killer.

  • Neutrinos blowing up the earth?! Come on... I could put up with the Day After Tomorrow's ice age in a week but that's just too ridiculous.

  • Yes kmartmask

Bedtime for Bonzo is a movie starring Ronald Reagan and some chimp.

No. Not the one who tore the face offf the lady.

  • 28 Days Later sucked Cenk.

  • Why?

What didn't you like about it?

  • I think we should go a little easier on films like this. I know there's no plot and it's basically just special effects and vending machine suspense, but a lot of people just want to have a nice night at the movies with their friends and see something like this that's fun. They're tired from being at work all day and a movie is a treat you get once and a while to enjoy, so why not do something simple and fun? No crime in that.

  • Really? Most of the people I know are sick to death of movies with crap writing that rely on nothing but special effects to pull it off.

  • 2012 don't sound exciting to me.

I'd much prefer Bedtime for Bonzo.

  • Is that a movie!?!?! It sounds SO MUCH more exciting than this piece of shit.

  • I bet the theater's concession stand looked like a scene from 2012 after young turk and his fat slob friend got thru ravaging it

  • @friction00815

You think Ben is like "The Young Turk"?

    Lol.

  • FUCKING ADDS! I've already seen this add, why do I have to see it twice?! Fucking retarded

  • all you get at "theaters" are germs and disappointment. kind of like this show. plus the germs.

  • going to the theater...? HAS DIED, in this country.

  • Well, I agree 28 days later is an awesome movie, but it's not really in the same category as this type of end-of-the-world-films. I'd say zombie-movies are a different category.

Anyway, lolwut?! The movie had nothing to do with the Mayan calendar? Why name it 2012 then and not "Neutrino Core" or something?

Ooooh, right, because they hope to sucker in those 2012-idiots...

  • Mecca and Vatican landmarks destroyed... rejoice!

One positive of earth biting the dust: man-made religion goes with it.

  • Hell yeah!!!!!!!!

  • Why is it that when there are black presidents in movies the wolrd always seems to end?

  • But then the world winds up surviving impending doom, kinda like art imitating life when you look at the last administration we had.

  • good call

  • Lol. Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are gonna have field days with that when they make that observation.

  • GEEZUS!

this looks like such a fucking terrible movie!!!

I'm glad TYT basically refined what I was thinking the movie would be.

The biggest thing that pisses me off is that even if you use the Mayan calendar idea and all that, 2012 is NOT supposed to be about the end of the world!

it's stuff about consciousness and spiritual ascendance... NOT the actual physical destruction of anything.

can't expect a retard Hollywood crowd to ever, EVER understand something like that, though...

  • I would consider watching this movie if someone payed me.... otherwise I would never waste my own money on crap like that. And I heard it cost 200 million dollars to make this crap movie.... if that's true it's just ridiculously absurd!

  • You see I knew this 2012 movie was going to be bullshit I can tell from the trailer. I said to myself that this was going to be a shitty movie like day after tomorrow and I didn't even know that the same guy directed the both films. I haven't even seen the movie and I know that G.I. Joe movie is still the worst movie of the year.

  • Please bring in Ana and remove that boring guy to the left.

  • Ben actually reviews movies dude. He "replaced" Ebert and Roeper in their At the Movies show for a period of time.

  • I agree with Cenk's end comment. 28 Days Later is a far more worthy film than anything Emmerich can crank out.

  • 2012 looks like a pure visual movie, and with pretty awesome visuals

  • Ray Harryhausen did it first in "Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers" circa 1956. D.C. gets creamed by, (you got it!), flying saucers.

I'm sick of fans of this sort of crap telling me to turn off my brain and forget it, "It's just a movie!" Any creative endeavor that cost as much as the GNP of a developing nation becomes significant when most cultural media outlets are going begging. This kind of movie has it's origins in the pulps, the cheapest print media in history, now it's state of the art.

  • Before this video even begins, I...just wanna say thank you advertisers for giving me something others than those fucking Geico commercials. Thanks

  • Yeah, uhh, neutrinos don't work that way. If they did we would have been dead billions of years ago. It is Roland Emmerich however, so whatever.

  • SKY IS FALLING the world will end 2012 when USA elect Palin/Bachman for president.

Dinosaurs will walk the earth, Zombie banks will eat the freedom of the ppl and Ronnie Raygun will raise from the dead to sponsor more islamic terrorists.

Remember do headshots on the zombie banks, else are you a goner.

  • the guy on the left needs to STFU cuz he's a fucking kill joy.

  • forget what its called but one of the best end of world movies ever was when a virus spread worldwide taking away everybody's eye sight. could be called blind?

  • why the prez had to be black?in all of this end of the world movies the prez is always black....motherfuckers....
