I think both are great shows the UK one is raunchy dirty jokes and its great. The US one while not the same has its merits if Steve Carell wasn't the boss in the US one it would suck completely. Also if you just gave the US one a shot during Season 1 and 2 watch Season 3 it gets better. I like both shows equally for different reasons but both are great.
I've heard that the American one gets better, and there was one really funny scene I saw when Jim put Dwight/Dwain's(?) posessions in the vending machine. But i agree with pilkingtonkid - American shows in general I find too brash, and seeing it happen to my favourite TV show just hurt. The UK office was brilliant because it's so subtle. I actually turned it off first time I saw it thinking it was another reality TV show. You could never make that mistake with the US version. Just preference tho
I got into the US version a bit, thought it was pretty cute, then I go back to the English original, and just - I cannot say how poorly the US version performs in comparison to the genius of Gervais and Merchant.
NBC's Office is like a little kid, it's brash and childish, it can be quite funny and sweet - but generally not in a subtlety calculated manner.
omg i have never seen clips from the british version and it turns out just as hilarious as the american version. i definitely have to check this out on dvd.
I'm american and I think the office original is hilarious. LMFAO! I didn't realise that the american movie was created from this. I wish the brittish program could be aired in the states. Maybe on the bbc america channel. I think the majority of americans don't understand the humor because they're too preocuppied with themselves. After all, it's not rocket science.
the fact is that americans dont get british humour thats why an american office was made americans didnt get red dwarf either its different kinds of humour in different cultures so really no one is better although i do believe the entire concept of the office was british so it just sint going to work in an american setting
I agree that I do think the Americans is better, but it's just because Im american and its what I am used to, Im sure if I started watching the UK version first, I would think the American Version was cheap
I, for one, would love to be able to see just ONE post of a clip from The Office (UK or US version) and not have to see people ranting about which one is better. Both versions are funny in different ways. Don't get me wrong, I have a fave too. I just think arguing about it is pointless. Let's all just appreciate comedy instead of turning it into some sort of patriotic debate.
I am a fan of both. They are very different shows, and although they do have "counterparts" they are difficult to compare. The BBC Office had a story arc, starting and ending in only 12 episodes while the american series continues in a serial fashion, for almost three times longer. The British Office captures a real office environment, with humorous situations, while the American Office is more a satire, and exageration of what a real office is like, and is more character driven.
Yeah I'm from America and I still think the British Office is funnier than the American version. I LIKE the American version because it's still on and I can watch it. But I think the British version had better jokes and better actors...
I am from England. The US version of The Office is ok, it is in the most just like the UK version, but tweaked to omit any intelligent comedy, i.e. British humour. The US version is much more 'slap stick' There is nothing wrong in that, I think it just shows that British humour is much more intelligent and subtle, I pity a yank that tries to understand!
dont mean to be rude but from a british point of view on the office from the uk and america you can clearly see the differnce between british and american humor, british humor is much more raw and realistic and the american humor seems to me just really cheesy and unfunny, no one can do what ricky gervais can do and the fact that the US tried to do there own version just shows that a show like the Ofiice cannot be recreated.
I'm an American and although I'll admit that sometimes we say insulting stuff (like xma5terx)), you should hear some stuff that some brits are saying about our version. Ricky Gervais helps to write some of our episodes and he heped to convert some characters-He even helped pitch the idea of an american office. In my opinion they're both great shows--so why fight over them? Who else agrees?
I totally agree they are both very funny shows. UK was more subtle and Freelove freeway was the funniest thing I've ever seen on T.V.... the American version is damn funny they do alot more Tim and Gareth and I like how dwight has a bigger role then Gareth ever did.
i like the us one better, though i watched this oe first

lol I love British humour, I like both of the offices.
They're each amazing, I don't see the need for debating which one surpasses the other.

UK Version. I hate when I run into people who think the American version is so great, They don't get British humor.

I prefer the UK one, US version is too staged, It's supposed to be a (comedy) documentary, not a soap opera.

I'm glad you can appreciate the UK version, but don't be embarrassed about it, not all Americans are as open-minded as you are :)

We will do our best. Even though I am Australian, the American producers shamed a great UK comedy.

Wont be long b4 there is a American version of extras for the yanks to say is better than the UK vesion (Copy copy).
whoyou77 5 years ago
That's the point.
They're not trying hard cause the situation itself is funny and so is the dialogue, they don't have to act like fools to make the scene work.
Americans just love their comedy super super obvious...
and I live in America so I get it first-hand and it's funny but stuff like this is just so priceless.

It's just not as funny as the US version. I've seen all the shows of both UK and US...it's like the UK version isn't even TRYING to be funny.
