As far as I remember, it's a rebel army headed by a Captain Morden... who teams up with an alien race to further his cause.

hmm it seems either camel does more damage than the first version or I was playing it wrong.

Could never kill it before the first exhaust of engines.

I learned that the difficulty settings actually affect more than just the number of continues you have. I was playing on "Normal" here, maybe you were playing on "Hard"? Normally, Arcade operators have "dip switches" (or something) that allows them to adjust difficulty, number of credits and so on. "Hard" is likely the highest, Normal somewhere in the middle.
