@JMAN123436 I am not sure if West Shore Service took it to the Junkyard or to a different city. The last time I saw this siren was in the bed of one of their pickup trucks.
@saleens66 This one was at Farmington Rd north of 7 Mile Rd near a McDonalds. This one here is actually gone but there is another 2001-DC that use to be at the main Fire Dept which is now located at Newburg and Ann Arbor Rd. The one at the Rec Center is a 2001-130 model which looks a little different then this kind.
@ekoslosky A new 2001-130 is about a quarter mile east of this location and there is also another one west covering this area. If you want, I can show you a map.
This sounds like the call on siren for my old town's Fire Department are 2001's used for that purpus? i know that thare used for Tornado Alart's but i was wondering
@ThePolerbearproducts There are fire depts that use 2001s for fire calls but they probably would use Fast Wail for fire call signal and use Alert or Attack for Severe Weather.
I still can't believe that the 2001 is a mechanical siren. It sounds electronical. And yes, I did just make up a word. I bet you all know what I meant, though.
@Siren1000T1 There are exceptions to every rule! I haven't actually paid much attention to the wind down of electronic sirens because they're not as cool as the wind down of mechanical ones, but now that you mention it I definitely see how the electronic ones don't wind down as much. It's usually the way a siren sounds that tells me if a siren is mechanical or not. Hmm...
We had a bomb threat at our school awhile ago. Someone then called in another threat so the administration decided to evacuate. Just as we were crossing the street to get to the parent pick up location the local siren test commenced. Talk about bad timing lol. Lots of ignorant people panicked. I just laughed.
they replaced the old aca allertor 125 near my old elementry school with one of these. i miss that allertor it use to go off when we were outside right across the street from it :D
i found a general quarters alarm (brief) but not a whoop. it's from the uss harry truman april-09 on here. a drill. i know i've seen one before, i can look for you.
i live in indiana, just two or three months ago was our last sounding for a while, it was like 4-5 pm and there was tornado watches cause we live in elwood indiana, above anderson, and they were in tornado warnings, we just sat down and turned on tv when our weather radio wnet off for a tornado watch and dark clouds, not much rain for a while, and then the 2001-130 sirens went off, i was pissed off ,
Right now there is no siren at this exact spot anymore but there is 2 2001-130s about a half a mile east and west of this spot which tries to make it so you can still hear sirens in this exact location.
Yes that's correct this is an older 2001 siren model which was made in the early 1990s. In the mid 1990s, the SRN came out then somewhere in the late 1990s or early 2000s, the SRNB model came out. Every 2001 siren that they made is single tone in the first place. The very first 2001 siren model was made in 1988 which was the original round backs. They started to make the square backs ether in 1989 or 1990. The 2001-130 model was made ether in 2006 or 2007.
All 2001s had 12 ports as well, including the god-awfully high pitched SRNBs. They all use the same rotor as the 2t22/3t22's top 12-port rotor, which was originally a Model 3 rotor. The way they got their increased decibel level was by using a higher speed DC motor, which resulted in the screechy high pitch.
Why Did They Move It? Was There A Particular Reason? e.g. There Is No Siren In That Part Of Town. Anyway, That Is Actually A Good Sounding 2001, Is It Old?
They're testing an FS 2001 in my town today, and I opened the front door. My dad made a little joke about being scared, and then I said, "Oh, come on. There's not a cloud in the-- OH MY GOSH!!!"
There used to be two thunderbolts and one SRNB near me, but earlier this year they were removed and replaced with 2001's. We have only SRNB's and 130's now. When severe weather comes along these days, I can't hear the sirens!
I think this siren got moved to a different location but I am not sure if that location is the right 2001 or not. The DC I saw is at Ann Arbor Rd and Newberg. Dammit I can't spell it right!!!
