  • I cant just glance my ebow across the strings ( 6:00) and get it to start making the strings feedback unless I hold it right over a single string. Is my battery just too weak?

  • I have an ebow and have tried to get the bagpipe sound but dont know how he is doing it.The website videos are useless.Anybody have any ideas? I think a compressor would help with the pizzacato string stuff.

  • I love this riff at 1:04, pure magic...

  • does anyone know what effects processors he is using?

  • @mastermaster10123 Sounds like reverb and chorus to me. Delay is always suitable for that kind of sound, too.

  • how does he that strings like efect? the one that sounds like playing bagpipes?

  • Can anyone help me remember the name of the tune from 1:22 on? Please?

  • @ViktorByron The Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg.

  • @SimonCabrera Thank you very much.

  • coool , it's like a whole string orchestra just played by one guitar

  • в общем, учиться, учиться и ещё раз учиться!

  • orson. i mean, awesome!!!

  • geil!

  • amazing job!!!

  • sounds like something steve vai would write

  • I think it's fair to say that you've mastered the e-bow! I hear violins, obo's, pipebags, indian flutes, amazing.

  • love the tone on the Hendrixy stuff at 03:51

  • Beast! Bu, I must say, the guitar sounds kinda like a Bagpipe at some points :P

  • @TheMaddoxfam kinda the point

  • This is really cool stuff! Also check out some of Steve Hackett's early solo work

  • Unbelievable! Great! What is the delay pedal that's been used?

  • @MyStonesinaBrook my rhythm guitarist has one like this with the hold feature and i dont know what Phils using but find this vintage pedal company called VestaFire and find their delay pedal its great!

  • Unbelievable! Great!

  • Yamaha?

  • @rallyivan1234 yes Yamaha sa2000

  • @Worldspyce @rallyivan1234

yamaha makes a fantastic guitars :)

Santana used a yamaha SG before the PRS

  • Some of this stuff reminds me of some of the familiar Steve Howe techniques. It's pretty awesome.

  • Awesome!! Loved "Hall of the mountain King". Now go and watch expert villages how to use an ebow and laugh yourself to death!

  • Does it work with acoustic guitars? Or is the tool exclusive to el-guitars?

  • @Dragonball4eva works for acoustic too

  • Hi there,my name's Phil Keaggy and I'm Mr Awesome.

  • what kind of delay is tht wow

  • tht delay he is using is mmmm. ebows are 2 awesome.

  • this video gave me a boner

  • I am so getting one!

  • beautiful

  • Tenho que comprar um desse e é claro aprender a usá-lo.

  • How does he make it work so fast!? Is it a special silver version or something?

  • @SifuScamstar Actually, he's using a volume swell pedal (along with obvious delay) with the Ebow. All of these effects working together create some very magical sounds!!!

  • @SifuScamstar could be rather just hitting the strings with it fast enough will make they vibrate to tone faster, but he does it damn good

  • Magical! Love the Hall of the Mountain King at 1:15

  • 50 seconds in sounds just like the ending theme of the x-files...maybe Mark Snow is a Phil Keaggy fan...haha

  • 10000 different ways to get the string to vibrate... that's why I love electric guitar

Ebow is really hard to master, this video is really impressive.

  • is he using a delay pedal or can the ebow actually do that??

  • @jetorileyboo delay

  • @jetorileyboo of course he's using delay. dont you see him adjusting it throughout the video.

  • Those are some frippy sounding guitars.

  • looks like hitler

playing the gEETARR at the end!

  • IN THE HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING!!!

  • I just love all the relevant debates about whos "better" and "im right and your wrong" do us all afavor and stfu

  • well said.

  • 3:00 .... amazing!

  • \0/

  • check my ebow video !!

  • DUUUDE I NEEEED ONE

  • 28 guys dunno anything about good music.

  • What the... fuck.....????? I want one. o.o

  • Is this standard tuning ?

  • Phil Keaggy should be more of a household name... what a talent.

  • Absolutely stunning \m/

  • vareela94- it's Hall of the mountain King. He does a hell of a job. Very creative. Good job phil.

  • 1:20 of what is that song? I have been along time playing that , i have that melody on my head and i don't know where is it from

  • @vareela94 "ruffneck rules da hardcore scene" has it in it, but dunno the origin.

  • @vareela94 It's a classical composition called "In the hall of the Mountain King" by Edvard Grieg

  • @iCantPlayScales

thanks!! i've been looking for the name of that song over months (:

  • Wonderful!

  • Me want Ebow.

  • Is it really that hard to just agree that both Phil and Yngwie are very talented? Is it not obvious that both are skilled and we can just pick our personal favorite without trashing the other?

  • @jrasparagus There can be only one!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He has nothing on Stuart Adamson of Big Country RIP

  • That last part took me away to another dimension.

  • He's Great, But Kansas SUCKS.

  • Truly the master of the e-bow.

  • One word for Phil Keaggy: Amazing!

  • wish i could get my ebow to sound like this... i wonder what his settings are...

  • @BradSpead7 well, the 2nd half of the performance he isn't even using the ebow till the very end, yet it still sounds like bowed strings, so he must have a guitar synth/midi controller + delay in addition to the ebow.

  • @KHooves yeah, at one point he's doing volume swells with his pinky, but i was more referring to when he does 'Amazing Grace' and acouple other points. He's just a guitar master

  • @BradSpead7 i think the skill has something to do with it

  • Always been in awe of Phil's amazing talent!!! There's no question that the Hand of God plays through this man!!!

  • 2:50 is the best bit i reckon as if phils not in the top 10 guitarists of all time!!!!

  • I've been a huge fan of Phil's since I first heard him in 1978. And he's been playing at this level since then. The first time I heard him play the E-bow and with the looper is some time around 1979. He is certainly a master musician.

  • I'm proud to say I have been listening to his music for over 2 decades and it keeps getting better every time!

  • iv never heard anyone do this on guitar before wow

  • Beautiully done Phil !!

Straight into the favourites folder goes this one !!

Definately want an ebow now .

  • Well, obviously I need to get an E-bow

  • Very cool dude.

  • I'd like to play just this audio to someone, and see if they could even guess that it was a just one guy with a guitar

  • I've yet to see anybody match this guy for sheer creativity and guitar trickery

  • it sounds like something out of tool

  • i got mine in the mail yesterday and have used it. keaggy is the man. its gonna take a longggg time to come close to being able to use it like this but its fun.

  • there ist also a delay there, is that form the ebow, or a pedal?

  • @eloy8624 pedal

  • 1:20 ... Edvard Greig's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" ... cool - this E-Bow sounds great

  • Very synth-like (in a good way)!

  • this video should have 0 dislikes

  • @darcymetal This is what real music is about, man! Not that corporate sellout fucking Mozart shit, man! He fucking worked for the man! I work for nobody man!

  • IS DAT SUM HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING?

  • @xloserx4xchristx ha ha ha IT indeed WAS!!!!!!!!!

  • phenominal!! i got his autograph back in 84. my brother took me to see him in mpls. rockin show w/ full band. i realize now how many people he influenced.

  • NOBODY does it better......Fripp was good, but Keaggy is the man.

  • i'm buying one now just from watching this video. hows that for an endorsement!

  • if u see this, youll shit bricks lol

  • He can play better with 9 fingers than most guitarist with 10

  • Comment removed

  • @nado117 i hate those ppl (like you) that always have something so bias and stupid to say like a stoner "yeah this is what real music not that corporate sell out crap, this is what musics all about." dumb ass, all music is relevant

  • @mikeb7791 Aren't you lovely :)

  • @mikeb7791 no, it is not. you must have never heard cheap euro-dance remixes from mid 90's Poland :D

  • @nado117 Now, that's hardly fair to Malmsteen. He does MUCH more than simply play harmonic scales "up and down at quick tempos."

He also plays diminished arpeggios up and down at quick tempos. So there.

  • Comment removed

  • @nado117 Yea, but Malmsteen is faster and therefore a superior guitarist. Everyone knows that with guitar speed = talent.

  • @nado117 to be fair there isnt really 'better' music, its all subjective, as in it would be exactly the same to say that yngwie is better because he does play scales up and down at quick tempos. its all music, an outward expression of someones emotion displayed in the way that they have developed throughout their lifetime. they are both equally good becuase it isnt a competition. i personally wish that more people in the world would realise this, but that is really asking a bit much of the world

  • @nado117 I think it is far, far too subjective for you or anyone else to make a claim like that. Seriously.

  • @nado117 You speaketh the truth my friend.

  • @nivramrelyt By the looks of your channel, we like the exact same music :) PoS ftw am I right?

  • @nado117 hahaha PoS is my second favorite band. The Perfect Element and BE are 2 of the best things I've ever heard.

  • @nado117 I AGREE WITH YOU!!! Phil Keaggy is so melodic and his fountain of invention never runs dry.I have never seen him live and this week comin 7-16-10 I am going to see him for the first time! I am more than excited.I have listened to Phil since It Makes Me Glad and Synergy.Phil Keaggy, to me, is the greatest guitarist I have ever heard. No one appeals more to me than Phil.He is my personal favorite.

  • @nado117

Go kill yourself, as Beethoven, Bach, Pachelbel and all the other classical composers want to personally punch you in the genitals for saying something that idiotic.

  • @Ghostman7777 None of those composers have heard of Phill Keaggy or Yngwie Malmsteen, and none of them rely solely on playing harmonic minor scales up and down at quick tempos, as such, they would have no problem with my comment. Thank you for yours.

  • @nado117

He doesn't rely on harmonic minor scales. He uses all sorts of scales, some diatonic, some pentatonic. He does not utilize just simple "A,B,C,D" bullsh*t. To say that Phil is better than Yngwie is a completely ignorant and close-minded statement. I would really like to see Phil compose and play something like Yngwie.

  • @Ghostman7777 If you want to argue, do it in a PM please.

  • @Ghostman7777 who cares, yngwie is crap.

  • @loliH9 Yes. There is no argument with that statement. He's a fucking asshole as well, but he still blows Keagy out of the water.

  • @Ghostman7777 i don't see how is that even possible. Yngwie's music affecting anyone who is not a speed retard or a guitar hero nerd just baffles me.

  • @loliH9 comparing Keaggy and Yngwie is really dumb in the first place. That's like comparing fried rice to chocolate milk or saying Blue is better than the number 4. I do know this.. I have heard my fair share of "Neo Classical" and I also saw Malmsteen live at G3 when he opened for Satch and Vai.. as a guitarist I really appreciate his talent and technique.. BUT if I had to listen to that 200 BPM, Beethoven on Meth shit for any extended amount of time I would need psych meds! ;)

  • @brandon9271 I too like Yngwie but I couldnt agree with you more...Well said.

  • @brandon9271 but blue IS better than number 4~!!!! dammit

  • @nado117 yeah cuz you are the almighty fuck with ultimate knowledge with the answers to the universe and you know with all certainty what "it's" all about. Get fucking real.

  • @ballrigors1 :D

  • @nado117 : you had a lot of hits on your comment... wish I could see what it was, but unfortunately it was censored. Too bad.

  • @freezazoid It was actually the highest rated comment on this video, I pretty much said Keaggy is a musical genius. But people are idiots and like to say things like "Herp derp, Yngwie Malmsteen likes harmonic minor scale" and it just pissed me off so I took my comment down.

  • that was FUCKING COOL

  • reminds me of robert fripp

  • @bslz65 Thats exactly what I thought at about 10 seconds in.

  • its just ... beautiful ... !

  • i want one of those ebows D:

  • Man this is SUPREME.

  • 1:17 In The Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg.

Love it. I can play it too.

  • amazing

  • It left me open mouthed. Making the impossible possible!

  • yeah yeah, nice E-bow.. but even nicer guitar!

heh, just jokin'. Really nice demonstration. I'm convinced! I want one!

  • F**K sounds like a orchestra :O

  • the sound at 0:18 sounds VEEERY Allan Holdsworth-ish :P this is SO cool I want one ^^

  • now i can sweep like a master xD!

  • Maestro!!

  • PK really is one of the GREATEST player EVER!

    Sings/plays/writes.....WOW

  • Hendrix considered Phil one of his favorites of that era. Check out Glass Harp.

  • Jeez - what a talent & skill!

  • Holy shit

  • beautiful!

  • My mind has just been blown. Probably one of my new favorite players. Loooove that line from 2:45 to 3

  • Comment removed

  • I like how right at the end about 5:55 or 6:00 he puts in a little pilgrims flight/castles call.

  • now they have the moog guitar, so you don't even need to use this. It is quite amazing how he gets the bagpipe sound. phil is redunkoulous though

  • fantastic

  • Wow.

  • Does it work only with magnetic pickups, or with midi/pizzo too? I mean graph tech kind of pickups. If someone could clear that for me i would be greatful.

  • @skelephile you are so right. This is the only video that makes the EBow sound interesting. All the rest are goofy one-string wonders.

  • how come my ebow doesnt work like this? he's like strummign with it and it takes like 2 entire seconds for mine to even pick up a note.

  • @topeldigital i think it has alot to do with settings and pickups.

  • I cant get my ebow to react very quickly,it seems to take ages to generate a note !!! let alone do any of this stuff !!!

  • Just exquisite. More than a demonstration, this is a video treatise.

  • Check my new ebow video ! In my Channel! =D

    ^^

  • Phil you slay me! I've just heard you for the very first time all over again. I'd forgotten you were so good.

  • lol i know y you thot inspector gadget 2001blackSLK but i dont think thats it lol

  • Phil Keaggy is from another planet. I'm convinced of it...

  • Can anyone tell me what he is playing at 1:16 ?

  • @terrythegoth I think it's Inspector Gadget

  • @terrythegoth in the halls of the mountain king

  • In the Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt by Edvard Grieg.

  • Thanks guys

    XD

  • @terrythegoth - me thinks...."Pierre et le loup" by Prokofieff...third movement or something like that ;-)

    nice citation.

  • @terrythegoth inspector gadget

  • Tchaikovsky, I think...

I don't know what suite, or ballet, or what, but I'm pretty sure that it's Tchaikovsky.
