  • what a bogus crowd

  • I love Beggars. In fact, I like more Thrice since Vheissu.

  • Beggars is amazing!!!! best Thrice album to date, all those people still talking that Illusion of Safety shit need to open their fucking ears, don't get me wrong I love their old stuff but their newer stuff blows it out of the water. Best band on earth

  • I still loved Alchemy Index because of the deep lyrics and how it showed the their versatility ......mostly on earth and wind, but i love the vocals in everything

  • great sound quality for what it was...but man...their new stuff seems so...plain. there's no more energy. ill hold final judgements til it comes out...but its not lookin too good right now. guess ill just have to keep listening to vheissu.

  • anyone know the time signature for this song???

  • I think cut time, but I'm not sure...

  • It sounds like 4/4 with a triplet feel, so instead of 2 eighth notes per quarter note, there's 3 notes. Could also be heard as 6/8, but the pulse is on each quarter notes so yeah...

  • They do a 3/4 count off, but I see what you mean.. I interpret it at 6/8 though, it definitely has a swing even though Eddie's bassline before the 2nd verse is triplet accented. That's the thing with time signatures you don't know at times lol.. just my 2 cents

  • It's in 4/4. He does the 3/4 count off because the song starts with a pickup measure...drum fill on the fourth beat.

  • I see what you mean, it's basically like a slow 4/4 which is why ppl get confused with counting triplets and/or 6/8 rhythms. Good stuff, I've always liked the way this band tries something new

  • What do you people want!? The Illusion of Saftey v2.0...v3.0...!?!?!?!?

I can't wait for the new album! I was disappointed by the Alchemy Index. Not because it was a progression, but because it was a step in the wrong direction. This song is very promising.

Great video, by the way. Really good sound quality!

  • I don't know about any body else, but there music may be getting more "deep" nowadays. But i still think that the Illusion of Safety album was by far the best. This song just sounds like crap compared to what they have made in the past. It's quite a let down.

What i find funny is after Vheissu did i only start meeting people who listened to Thrice...

  • lol! word on your last sentence

  • riley beckenridge: "this record will be more groove-oriented"

i think this song conveyed perfectly that feel. this track was completely inspired.

  • I like Helter Skelter. And this sounds like mixture of dont know QTSA Radiohead Thrice.

  • cant wait for the album.. you guys only get better

  • im diggin it alot it sounds more like vhessiu than the alchemy index which by the way dont get many plays off my ipod

  • your a noob.

  • Strong homo.

    Alchemy Index was fucking genius.

  • I think those who would say thrice is making a bad move changing their sound like this are simply not thinking progressively. The fact that thrice isn't afraid of defying what we call genre to explore what they can do with music makes me respect the hell out of them, the fact that they have pulled off every style with god-tier talent makes me worship them. Maybe we should all just accept that thrice isn't a one-trick pony, or just keep listening to illusion and artist over and over.

  • Don't get me wrong, I love their new stuff, but its heartbreaking to hear them neglect what made their old stuff great! I mean, there's nothing like hearing Teppei lead his way through a song & you just don't hear him do that anymore.

Dustins vocal intensity is UNMATCHED & he doesn't seem to want to display it anymore.

Now they make a catchy riff & stick with it through the entire song. Hate to admit it but it gets boring after a while. I like progression, i don't like ignoring roots.

  • It has been recorded on a camera and they havent practiced it a whole lot yet. Plus the video has been posted in april and as of today (20 june) they barely ended recording and hardly started the mix of Beggars. Firebreather sounded nothing like how it sound on their album and recent lives when they first played it as well. I for one like it as it is now and am confident that it will reach a whole level of awesomeness once polished.

  • I'm sorry. I've been a Thrice fan for five years now. But this song is just plain awful. Vheissu was truly Thrice at its best. Alchemy wasn't bad. It got boring after a few plays though. But this song sounds amateur at best.

The band keeps talking about how it's maturing. If stripping your music down to three chords is maturity, then Thrice has truly blossomed into a lovely young woman.

Here's to hoping this song doesn't reflect the rest of the album.

  • Plain and simple, if you don't like what they're doing, go find a different band to listen to. If it were up to you, Thrice would have made Vheissu in four separate parts and called it "The Same Shit We Did on the Last Record", and THAT would have been amateur.

I for one am glad they don't keep spitting out the same shit over and over. That's what made TAI one of the most innovational sets of music written lately. They pulled it off perfectly.

  • Don't worry, I stopped listening to them months ago. It's funny how bands tend to those their sense of identity while attempting to become "innovational."

Their music is becoming a sad attempt to be different. I honestly think Teppei puts more time into building gear than he does into Thrice's music. He can do some much better than this trash.

But I won't judge you for liking this horrible song for the sake of embracing maturity and change xD

  • Besides, maybe the album version might change your mind. Ya never know.

  • This is stupid. Would you rather they become like AC/DC and make the same album over and over for decades?

  • What are you talking about? Thrice is sacrificing their own identity for the sake of trying to stand out. No. They already lost their identity. The Alchemy Index didn't even feel like a Thrice album. And this song sure as hell doesn't sound like the Thrice I know. Keeping the same sound and writing new songs are two completely different things. Most other decent bands can pull it off without sounding repetitive. Why can't Thrice? You know what they say. Don't fix what isn't broken.

  • Yeah, but you know what would happen if they did end up releasing that same sound you love, you'd bitch and say "This sounds JUST like the last album!!" It's inevitable, it's what anyone always says, it's so hypocritical.

  • I disagree. But even if it did, I wouldn't be upset due to the fact that I love their older stuff and especially Vheissu. I don't see why they can't mix up their older and more recent sounds into a completely new sound, rather than moving to a new genre with each release. No one can deny that a mix between Vheissu and Illusion would be the best album ever.

You also can't deny that they've been getting lazy with their music lately.

  • how exactly are they getting lazy?

  • you do know minimalism is also a stylistic technique right?

the lyrics are AWESOME, as they've known to be lyrically driven and complimented by Dustin's mastered vocals. but aside from that, they don't need to resort to complex time signatures for EVERY song. regardless i still think the song is powerful.

  • :(

Come on dude. Ya gotta love the little bluesy rhythm the song has.

  • Here's to hoping you smarten up soon because right now you define the term "insanity". Sorry dude, but if you call yourself a "Thrice fan" well, you might as well not.

  • It's called an opinion dude. Thrice isn't a sports team. I'm not going to say I like their music when it's obviously become crap. Sorry I don't like boring, tasteless music. Like I've said before, I'm just not digging the whole lazy three-chord thing Thrice is trying to pull off here. They could've done much better.

  • It hasn't become crap man come on you have to look at it from this point of view: going from Identity Crisis and Illusion of Safety to the Alchemy Index. What other band has pulled off such a change? The band even said that one of their main objectives was to challenge themselves musically (style was, not form of song wise, so don't say anything about three chord bullshit 'cause that's not what it is about) so they don't repeat the same shit all the time.

  • Comment removed

  • To be honest, if they made every album sound like Artist, I wouldn't listen 'cause I've heard it before. The whole point is THAT would be boring. Because with all their different styled albums it's like listening to a new and damn fucking good band every time I listen to one of their albums.

  • Amen.

  • Cheers dude.

  • you do know minimalism is also a stylistic technique right?

the lyrics are AWESOME, as they've known to be lyrically driven but aside from that, they don't need to resort to complex time signatures for EVERY song. regardless i still thing the song is powerful.

  • Minimalism isn't what I expect from a band with serious musical talent such as Thrice. This goes double for Teppei.

I will agree, Dustin's lyrics are still awesome. And don't even bring up Radiohead. A friend recently showed me how badly Thrice ripped them off in Broken Lungs. It kind of took a blow at my respect for Thrice.

  • even the beatles who pushed notions of self-expression resorted to minimalism and were talented musicians, though they were regarded as "pop." they were sometimes compared and often "inspired"/copied acts of their time, but that doesn't make them any less great.

"there's nothing new under the sun"

  • everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but i've generally known thrice to be of uninhibited self-expression. that being said, however, not everything they've made is great. alchemy index was alright, but some songs just seem not so much lazy but "uninspired." it's just the life of a musician is all. i can't think of any band who's songs were ALL of high caliber; every band has their low points.

  • I'd like to hear the Radiohead song that Thrice ripped off from them, I know both bands terribly well (own all their albums) and have yet to hear what your talking about.

  • Sounds Vheissu to me . Which is my favorite album. Sorry you didnt get Alchemy, but Im sure even you could find some things you liked and that worked on that album, because you would be crazy if you didn't. These guys are so talented and the album so creative that any sane person should find some sort of appreciation for it no matter what the taste or preference. But then again All the World IS Mad. Look for Vheissu mixed with alchemy with a pinch of something we've never heard before. Cant wait

  • Thrice's new album "Beggars"

    releases October 2009, F*** YEAH!!!!

  • Wow, what a great song! They had the guts to perform a new song to wrap up their set. And they only practiced it twice as a band too! It must have been so nerve-racking. Thrice always amazes me.

  • whats the new album's name?

  • "Beggars"

  • Just to inform all of you that didn't know.

This song is called All the world is mad

  • i bet the crowd doesn't know thrice very well...they aren't moving much -__-

  • the thing about the popularity issue is as long as they're doing what they do (pushing musical boundaries and pushing themselves to never do the same thing twice) they're not GOING to garner the massive popularity in question...if they ever did get that popular it would be because they made a conscious decision to make music that would make them more popular...which they wouldn't...ever...

  • You people who are wishing them to remain less popular are selfish, and commonly known these days as HATERS.

Only you're all pussies and try to hide it by making it sound like it would be good for the band to stay more unknown. Trust me, they all want to get bigger and bigger, so stfu. : P

  • simply awesome! Thrice is my alltime favourite band, no 2 albums are the same yet they are all great. I think the reason they are not as popular as most bands is because they can be too complex for most people. Look at all popular music, very simple structures, easy to sing a long too and remember on the first listen. that being said im glad Thrice is the way they are, i never want them to get huge radio play and popularity. They are a wonderful little secret for so many of us:)

  • Please wish failure upon them. I want them to get famous, popular, and rich. They deserve it! [At least the rich part, fame isn't always desirable]

By the way, I trust Señor Kensrue to be true to the band and responsible with wealth if that ever happened.

  • this song is a perfect example of thrice's ability to play music

  • You shouldn't generalize an album off one song and this is much more upbeat than anything from Vheissu, though I can hear the similarities.

  • it's been scientifically proven that thrice cannot make a bad song

  • Thrice is perhaps one of the most underappreciated bands that i can think of. Their music is so refreshing at every turn, and yet their fan base isnt nearly what it should be for a band of their caliber. It's actually a travesty in my mind that they havent garnered more popularity, although it could in large part be due to the fact that they choose to remain distinctive instead of selling out to the same sound every other band has today in order to make money and fans.

  • and yet if they gained that popularity perhaps they would risk losing what makes them so great so i applaude the way they are.

  • From their website, it sounds like they are happy the way they are if they can take care of their family.

  • preach =D

  • What's wrong with the crowd?!!? Why aren't they going nuts? They got to hear the newest thrice before anyone else... spoiled bastards.

  • Dude, I feel my life has taken on new meaning simply from hearing it, I cannot fathom how stoked I would have been had I been there myself.

  • Probably cause they wanna actually hear the song, I would go nuts for all the other stuff but hearing that song would be top priority for me.

  • I've had this stuck in my head all day, the rift is so catchy! Can't wait for the new album, know whatever they've decided to do with it it'll be awesome - at the end of the day, it's Thrice. They're geniuses, trust in them!

  • Sounds awesome, almost a combination of new dredg and new mastodon. Kickass

  • at 3:19 i sense a little mastodon...

    great song, i'm extremely excited

  • ah! i am going to die from excitment! new song is awesome, as always. i'm really diggin the sound, different and amazing. =]!

  • Best band ever

    -Posada

  • sounds awesome.. more like vhiessu... which is my favorite album by them... awesome.

  • does anybody know around what month the album will be out?

  • This is so awesome!!!

Thanks for the sweet audio quality!!

  • thrice es el poder!!! buen tema! no puedo esperar mas por el nuevo disco! amo a thrice!

  • Their next albums going to be the sex!!!!!!!

  • great melody... thrice rules

  • I love how its so different from everything they've done but still amazing. I can hear a bit of TAITA in this song as well as their last two albums which makes me happy.

  • well they already experimented with 4 seperate, unique sounds.

now we just need to mash it all together into one coherent piece.

    god I love thrice.

  • i have a feeling theyre gonna experiment with a 5th sound...and its gonna be awesome.

  • imganie more elements like potassium

    Thrice New Album Potassium

dustin "yeah its a real potassi kind of sound."

  • lol thats hella funny 'potassi kind of sound' XD

  • Is this in a minor key? It has a really cool sound to it. Almost like a mashup of the earth and air sound.

Not going to lie, this album is going to be awesome.

  • the whole thing is basically two minor chords that are three frets (or one and a half steps) apart which gives it that eerie almost middle eastern kind of sound

  • They are probably playing in C minor like they do most of the time. It's called a minor third, for those people who would want to know more. The band loves to travel in thirds. Personally it is my favorite way to right music as well. I also like to do a 4 6 5 1 chord progression as well as thrice likes to do it too.

  • wow... can't wait for their new album... this song sounds pretty amazing; again they're able to go a totally different way than what i've heard from them so far (and i've heard pretty much everything :D)... thank god, i got to know this great band!

  • thrice = truly spiritual

  • pretty sick song. Thrice never lets down, best band for sure.

  • If I had to guess I would say very late this year or spring of 2010... And "theearthwillshake" your obviously a Thrice fan, why were you in the back with all the lame people... Fronts where its at, except I geuss you got better sound quality then everyone else. (myself included)

  • the band said fall 2009...i dunno how long ago they said that but they're about to finish recording and move on to mixing, just need vocals on one more song

  • I am so stoked for the new album.

  • lightsofnero... i know that name... you jew!

  • Thrice never fail to amaze me. Each album they make gets better & better. I'm stoked to hear the rest of their new album. This song is EPIC!

  • yeah man me too. any idea of when we can expect this one to be released?

  • ha! bomb show thrice. i wuz there

  • note to all the emo and hardcore kids: dont even try to label thrice, cuz its physically impossible. just like Ricaflect said, "they touch so many different sounds." you really cant and they really do. kthx

  • Thrice is without a doubt my favorite band, they touch on so many different sounds and genres that im into, i love them haha

  • most def

  • "Something's gone, terribly wro-ong, everyone!! All the world is bla-ack. Darkness brings, terrible things! The suuun is goone! We're blah blah outside!!! Rectify!" - One day you'll be screaming this at a Thrice concert. =]

  • i believe 'rectify' is in fact 'wretched lies/liars'.

  • Yeah, that sounds better!

  • i think it's actually "all the world is mad" instead of "all the world is black". :)

  • you're right :)

apparently the song is actually called that :)

    good one sir

  • sweet. i thought it was that song. :)

btw, i am not a sir. lol

  • we're battling outside**

    ?? maybe ??

  • the first time it sounds like "dying outside" but the second time yeah it sounds like "battling outside"

  • Teppei's guitaring at 3:18 sounds a lot like Jeff Buckley from the song Grace

  • ah! they're so amazing!! I can't wait for their next album- I love this song!

  • Teppei is the man.

  • Oh yes this video has a better sound quality - this song ROCKS:D

  • sounds great. anyone have any idea on when the new album is coming out?

  • What can't Thrice do? Suck, that's what they can't do.

  • so very true

  • lmao that was so cheesy but true and funny as hell

  • ***they also played artist in the ambulance, i believe after firebreather.

Great Show so many good sets all day long.

  • this song.

    amazing.

i should have been there though -_-

    what was their setlist?

  • If i rember right it was

    Of dust and nations

    The melting point of wax

    For Miles

    deadbolt

    Firebreather

    helter skelter

    new song

    and The Earth will shake

I think it was pretty epic

  • has an almost Poison The Well (Versions) sound, which i love

  • I can feel that too, now that you mentioned it.

  • Yelling "T&C!!!" is the easiest way to sound like a douche when you're at a Thrice show.

    Now song sounds excellent.

  • Err... *new.

  • Hahaha, I concur with you, my friend.

  • haha yeah, u got that right!

    this new song sounds amazing
