@tonee127 ha ha ha, another one who thinks capital letters equate with loudness... shhhhhh (exclamation point).... now i know what i am at heart.... shhhh, don't let this get around:
Tracey's version is certainly more polite and polished, like something you'd hear from a really good coffee house singer. But Beefheart's vocal conveys more emotion to me, plus his arrangement has a happy little syncopated kick in the drums that contrasts nicely with the forlorn lyrics and again makes the whole thing resonate more. But Beefheart is certainly not for everybody, even at his most gentle, as he is here.
@zenobardot I actually like both versions, But Tracey does more for me...dam! she melts me with her voice!..each to their own I think is the lesson here. I'm usually not one to to prefer a cover version, but "coffee house singer" lolz, plz! ;)
God! that was so duckin' lame. I've read the track list for this album and this song sounded like it could be interesting but...god! That was the guy who wrote Ella guru? Fuck off cpatin you lame fucker!
Thank you so much for posting this. It is such a beautiful sentiment. This song means a lot to me. Reminds me of very good, happy times. I've allway's liked and respected Beefheart. This sends me to a better place. Danny

I thought this was written by everything but the girl, but they have covered many classics so it doesn't surprise me they covered this. Great tune.

This is not Beefheart at his most Avant Garde but listen to the lyrics. It is a Beautiful and sincere love song.

i've jjst listened to it again to see if it was as bad as what i thought...it's not. Well it is but i've calmed down a bit.
It's just a bit of a shock to hear him being so tame and conventional!
