Nice close-ups. I am a railfan but not an expert in steam locos. I think the golden tubes seen in the top are the steam whistles or the auxiliary steam escape valves. These valves I understand were used when the loco was parked waiting to start runing.

Sounds awesome Eliot and they did add and like of piping to the unit. It almost looks like the early days of K-line when they produced the scale Berkshires with all the bling on it. Very nice and your layout is amazing, Happy Birthday and many more!
