16 Morab gelding athletic quick horse bucks with every new person who lopes him. He . occass. bucks with me his regular rider. He gets angry when I try to rate him at a lope and tries to buck when I slow up or stop him. He doesnt do it in the round pen, just when I am on him. Chiro tack teeth checked. He also tosses his head to flip his rein over his neck so he can speed up or take off while running. Ridden slower and less than usual this year. Use curb bit with roller.Good on long runs. Advice?
@cornye2993 I would go back to basics and us a o ring bit... asked for a lope and if trys to buck do a one rien and really move the hip and let him know he is going to have to work harder if he bucks.. It is important on hand postion when you do the one rien stop thou..have to pull to the center of your belly not pull out and towards the leg.
I think this lady owner has got real guts. It takes a lot of courage to work through a problem horse, especially when their behaviour can seriously hurt a person. Good for her, she put time effort and money into sorting that horse out, and she showed humility by going to someone more experienced to learn. She's a really good owner and she's a good rider as well. By the time she's David's age she will know much more. We never stop learning.
I use this technique and one more of yours. Recently Monty has been using the Buck Stopper which is a very old techique but as created a lot of fuss because people believe it is not natural also your old friend PP was in the news.
What do you think of the Buck stopper......Keep up the good work; I would with a lot of clients and they are really focussed on Natural and I say there is nothing Natural about with we are asking the horse to do. Be True to Your Horse is more like it.
@johnforgeron OH ok went and watched the video.. now showing my age... just the old gum line routine...lol I love it when he said HE CANT remember ever getting buck off ,well that means he did but dont want to admit it... I can tell you from personal experance back when I was a pup . a horse will and can buck hard with it on them... and it can ruin a horses upper lip
usualy I have trouble watching instructional videos I find them drawn out and uninformative. the lead up to get you to go to a seminar. my wife saw these videos made me watch the first two and now I am hooked. I find it works well with what I allready do and the techniques that are new to me I can see working. poor marketing but awesome horsemanship. he won't get rich but he's got my respect.
I also have a horse that bucked me off and it had been many years since I had had that happen to me, so I lost all my confidence.Went right back to ground working him and getting his feet moving .Having watched all your vids I really do feel like I am ready to get back on.Be interested to hear what you think to the gum line ? I wonder if I will ever totally have confidence in the horse who has been a bucker ,might they not do it again ? Wonderful work David ,many thanks, Rachel
People spend more time insulting each others intelligence than they do learning how to better communicate with their horses. How mature of them all. Your an amazing horse trainer sir, I believe I will benefit greatly from your videos. Its nice to see more people engaging in natural approaches. However I would like to see some before clips if its possible of the horses you work with. :)
@Equestrian08 Thank you,, well what usally happens I will be working a horse and think darn have to go get my camera..LOL and the start filming.. so I have a little start on them..But will say ,, around here people will tell you ,not sure why but when I get my hands on a horse they change.. Of course then there was the paint mare who got me..lol
@14luv2laugh well she isnt that fat,, and the day before I am only one forty and I can telly you filly can buck... I asked for a back right off and she backed up real well . I asked her to go forward and after the second stride ... she went for it...

@david12000000 Thank you. Would you use a o ring with a twisted snaffle, smooth wider one or a french snaffle?

Has this horse had her wolff teeth pulled? She does not like the bit at all.

can this be done at time of saddle training even if the horse has never been backed?
